California State University - Fresno
Lars Maischak is a lecturer in the Department of History at California State University, Fresno. According to his university biography, Maischak teaches the courses, Colonial Americas, American History to 1877, England and Empire, United States 1789-1865, and Topics in History – Marx and Hegel for Historians. Maischak uses his personal Twitter account to call for the execution of the 45th President, Donald Trump, and refers to conservatives as fascists.
Maischak claims that fascism is the eventual result of capitalism in a paper titled, There can be no Democracy without Socialism, shared on Google Drive. Describing fascism as the “creature of capitalism,” Maischak claims that capitalism facilitates the exploitation of workers, or what he describes as the establishment of a “dictatorship of capital over labor.”
Maischak further cites the territorial expansion, slave labor, and the outlawing of unions in Nazi Germany as examples of capitalism’s logical end. He later describes the liberties inherent in capitalism as the freedom to commit mass murder and barbarism.
Maischak called for the assassination of then-President Donald Trump via hanging in now-deleted tweets on his personal Twitter account in February of 2017.
According to a Daily Caller report, Maischak additionally calls for an “ethnic cleansing” of Republicans.
“#TheResistance #ethniccleansing Justice = The execution of two Republicans for each deported immigrant.” – Lars Maischak
Once Maischak’s tweets were published by outlets like the Daily Caller and Breitbart, Maischak offered an initial apology for his remarks. In a written statement to the Fresno Bee, Maischak asks for forgiveness and states, “It was never my intent to harm anyone, nor to encourage others to harm anyone.”
According to Inside Higher Ed, Maischak’s classes were canceled by the university before he was later removed from his position following his remarks about President Trump. However, as of March 2021, Fresno State University still lists Maischak as a Lecturer in the History department. In addition, his personal Twitter account still contains tweets calling for former president Donald Trump to be hanged, and tweets referring to conservatives as “fascists” that must face “repression” that have not been removed or recanted.
Following initial coverage of Maischak’s remarks in 2017, the Fresno Bee reports that University President, Joseph Castro, stated in a conference call with reporters that he was cooperating with an investigation of Maischak by the Secret Service, Homeland Security, and the FBI. Following this statement, Fresno Bee also reported that Maischak then accused President Castro of allowing himself to be used by a “right-wing smear machine” for cooperating with the investigation.
The Professor Watchlist team reached out to Maischak for comment but has not received a reply by the time of publication.
