Kale B. Fajardo
University of Minnesota
Kale B. Fajardo is an Associate Professor of Asian American Studies and American Studies at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Some of his interests include “gender and sexuality studies, queer theory, queer of color critique, masculinity studies, transgender studies” and more.
Fajardo teaches a variety of courses, such as:
- Critical Perspectives on American Dreams
- Gender, Sexuality, and Politics in the US: Focus on Hawaii, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico
- Freshman Seminar: Reading the Mississippi River: Place, Race, Gender, and Empire
A few of his publications include:
- Filipino Crosscurrents: Oceanographies of Seafaring, Masculinities and Globalization. In this text, “Fajardo invites readers to reconsider the meanings of masculinity and manhood.”
- He is also co-editor of the Q&A: Voices from Queer Asian North America (with Martin F. Manalansan IV and Alice Y. Hom; Temple University Press, 2021). This passage “address[es] activism, radicalism, and social justice; transformations in the meaning of Asian-ness and queerness in various mass media issues of queerness in relation to settler colonialism and diaspora; and issues of bodies, health, disability, gender transitions, death, healing, and resilience.”
Fajardo is a fellow at the “Center for Applied Transgender Studies” (CATS), an organization that features professors, Ph.D. candidates, and faculty from universities nationwide. CATS is an “independent nonprofit research organization run by transgender people for transgender people.”
