Themis Matsoukas

Pennsylvania State University

Themis Matsoukas was a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Pennsylvania State University from 1991-2023.

In June 2023, Matsoukas was arrested after being accused of performing sexual acts with his dog in a public forest. The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) began investigating in April 2023 after a trail camera showed an unknown man “engaging in lewd acts” around the parking lot and restroom.

After a camera identified similar images in May, the investigators were able to identify Matsoukas by his Subaru Outback.

The New York Post reports, “The shocking footage reportedly showed the professor wearing nothing but a ski mask, boots with socks, and a wristwatch, and carrying a North Face backpack. Matsoukas reportedly could be seen masturbating near a women’s public restroom, before ‘engaging in a sexual act with the dog,’ according to the affidavit.”

DCNR later recovered images from a trail camera at a privately owned camp that show Matsoukas’s actions date back to 2014.

DCNR investigators obtained a search warrant for Matsoukas’s home and vehicle, seeking to obtain items that were seen in the trail camera footage. When investigators arrived at his home, the professor allegedly became panicked and said repeatedly, “I’m done, I’m dead.”

He told investigators he did it “to blow off steam” and reportedly “begged” the DCNR officials to kill him saying, “What do I have to do to get you to shoot me? I need to die.”

Matsoukas was arraigned on charges of “open lewdness, indecent exposure, sexual intercourse with an animal and animal cruelty.”

The Centre Daily Times reported the university put out a statement that read, “Themis Matsoukas has been relieved of his responsibilities and is on leave.”
