Michael Park is an instructor at California State University-Long Beach. He used a media law class to disparage Tea Partiers and conservatives as being birthers. In an assignment, he implied that opposition to President Obama is based on a belief that he is not a &#8220;true American&#8221;. This is similar to a class taught by Christopher Knap, a fellow CSULB professor that assigned a homework assignment implying Trump is homophobic/sexist.

<a href="http://www.cla.csulb.edu/departments/journalism/people/faculty/chris-knap/">Christopher Knap</a>, a Communications Professor at CSULB, assigned a homework assignment which mocked Trump as sexist and homophobic. The assignment involved an employee named "Ronald Plump" that harassed women and used homophobic slurs.

<a href="https://www.csulb.edu/office-of-the-president/president/about">Dr. Jane Close Conoley</a>, is the current President of California State University - Long Beach. In an op-ed from 2014, Conoley stated that if you are “light-skinned” you have “significant unearned privilege.” Moreover, these privileged individuals show distrust and “lower expectations of behavior” of those with another skin color.

<a href="https://cla.csulb.edu/departments/africanastudies/faculty-and-staff/maulana-karenga/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Maulana Karenga</a> is Chair of <a href="https://cla.csulb.edu/departments/africanastudies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Africana Studies</a> at <a href="https://www.csulb.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California State University - Long Beach</a>. Dr. Karenga was a prominent black nationalist during the 1960s and 1970s, during which time he founded the holiday, “Kwanzaa.” Prone to extremity and paranoia, Dr. Karenga was convicted for the imprisonment and torture of two women he falsely suspected of poisoning him.

Born Ronald McKinley Everett, Dr. Karenga founded <a href="http://www.hartford-hwp.com/archives/45a/767.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kwanzaa as a pan-African holiday</a> in 1966. Despite that most American blacks are descended from West Africa, the name and traditions are based on East African Swahili. He would further <a href="https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2014/12/kwanzaa__a_madeup_holiday_.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">state the holiday’s proximity to Christmas was intentional, as otherwise it wouldn't be noticed</a> by the black community.

People think it’s African. But it’s not. I wanted to give black people a holiday of their own. So I came up with Kwanzaa. I said it was African because you know black people in this country wouldn’t celebrate it if they knew it was American. Also, I put it around Christmas because I knew that’s when a lot of bloods [blacks] would be partying!

Dr. Kerenga intended for Kwanzaa to replace Christian and Jewish holidays. As he wrote in his book—Kawaida Theory—Western faith, “denies and diminishes human worth, capacity, potential and achievement." In Christian and Jewish mythology, humans are born in sin, cursed with mythical ancestors who've sinned and brought the wrath of an angry God on every generation's head.”

Dr. Karenga adopted his current name after embracing black nationalism while living on the West Coast in the 1960s. He would go on to found his own group—titled, <a href="https://www.us-organization.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Organization US</a>—as a more radical alternative to his rivals in the Black Panther Party.

<a href="http://web.stanford.edu/~ccarson/articles/am_left.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Black Panthers</a>—known officially as the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense—was a black-nationalist and Marxist organization that operated largely in California during the 1960s and 1970s. Known for their violent tactics and enforcement of party discipline, members would<a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/whitewashing-the-black-panthers" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> pour boiling water over suspected </a>police informants. Co-founder, Huey Newton, is <a href="https://www.salon.com/1999/12/13/betty/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspected to have taken part in multiple murders</a> committed by the Panthers.

Dr. Karenga’s organization frequently clashed with the rival, Black Panthers. Following a dispute over who would lead the Afro-American Studies Center at UCLA, <a href="https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/600011/posts?page=7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Organization US members shot two Black Panthers to death on the campus in 1969</a> which set off a series of shootings across Los Angeles that summer. The incident caused Dr. Karenga to fall into paranoia and suspect his own followers of plotting to kill him.

On the evening of May 9th, 1970, Dr. Karenga and several of his followers confronted two women who were staying at his home. He accused both of placing poison “crystals” in his food and water. According to court testimony, the women were then stripped naked, bound, and ordered to confess. Dr. Karenga tortured both women over the next two days, beating each with an electrical cord, and then branded them with a soldering iron.

While awaiting trial, Dr. Karenga’s mental health continued to deteriorate. The court-appointed psychologist found him to be schizophrenic, and reportedly caught Dr. Karenga speaking to hallucinations in his jail cell:

“Since his admission here he has been isolated and has been exhibiting bizarre behavior, such as staring at the wall, talking to imaginary persons, claiming that he was attacked by dive-bombers and that his attorney was in the next cell. During part of the interview he would look around as if reacting to a hallucination and when the examiner walked away for a moment he began a conversation with a blanket located on his bed. This man now presents a picture which can be considered both paranoid and schizophrenic with hallucinations and elusions, inappropriate affect, disorganization, and impaired contact with the environment.” 

The court later sentenced him to one to ten years in jail for two counts of felonious assault, and one count of false imprisonment. However, he was granted parole in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kwanzaa-was-invented-insane-leftist-gangster-who-michael-j-knowles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">1975 thanks to a letter-writing campaign by his followers.</a>

While in jail, Karenga converted his ideology from Black Nationalism to explicit Marxism. In 1978, just a few years after his release, Dr. Karenga was hired as the Chair of the African Studies department, where he now resides as of March 2022.

<a href="https://www.csuchico.edu/phha/people/faculty/briggs.shtml">Lindsay Briggs</a> is a tenured faculty member in the Department of Public Health at California State University &#8211; Chico. Briggs publicly identifies as an anarchist on her <a href="https://twitter.com/ChicoSexProf?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor">Twitter</a> profile and <a href="https://www.csuchico.edu/lgbtq/board/briggs.shtml">serves</a> as the Vice-Chair of the LGBTQ Faculty and Staff Association.

Already in opposition to the University Police Department, Briggs recently <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=15700">doxed a university police officer</a> over an alleged online feud by posting what appears to be the officer’s name, picture, number, and home address. She justified her actions by claiming (without evidence) that the officer was engaged in online harassment and encouraged her followers to share his address &#8220;widely with your networks.&#8221; Briggs stated that it was “poor taste” for the officer to pose with a pro-police, &#8220;Thin Blue Line&#8221; poster, and claimed that the university police were white supremacists who routinely harass activists like herself. In the same post, Briggs included the image of an 8 year-old girl (whose face has been blurred for her privacy) who had made the poster for the officer.

She <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/professor-publicly-slurs-student-shitty-questioning-alternative-gender-identities/">once lashed out at the author </a>of an op-ed in Chico&#8217;s student newspaper that <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20170513155159/https://theorion.com/65496/opinion/debunking-gsec-myths/">attempted to counter to statistics</a> offered by the university’s Gender and Sexuality Equity Center (of which Briggs serves on the advisory board) on issues such as the prevalence of sexual assault on campus. Rather than addressing the points raised by the article, Briggs attacked the student who authored the piece, Roberto Fonseca, as “repugnant” and accused him of committing violence through hate speech. In a Facebook post, she continued to personally attack Fonseca and encouraged others to call the paper&#8217;s editor to protest to the piece.

<a href="https://www.csuchico.edu/hist/faculty/biographies/schwaller.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Shawn Schwaller</a> is a History Professor at <a href="https://www.csuchico.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California State-Chico</a>. His notable courses cover topics including Chicanx and Latinx studies, US History, and American Indian studies. Dr. Schwaller has further served on the Ethnic Studies committee at the university and is thus tasked with determining which courses will fulfill California's ethnic studies requirement.

Passed in July of 2020, California’s state university systems now <a href="https://www.calstate.edu/csu-system/board-of-trustees/past-meetings/2020/Documents/July-21-22-ED-POL-Binder.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">require all enrollees to complete one ethnic studies or social justice course in order to graduate</a>. The requirement will affect all <a href="https://www.calstate.edu/csu-system/about-the-csu" target="_blank" rel="noopener">23 campuses and nearly 500,000 students</a> in the California state university system.

<a href="https://amchainitiative.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/90-Groups-to-Gov-Newsom-8.13.20.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">90 Jewish and Pro-Israel groups </a>publically opposed the new academic requirements in a letter to Newsom. The letter—addressed to Governor Newsom, accuses the legislation of inciting “hatred and harm against pro-Israel students,” as anti-zionism and BDS is an “intrinsic part of Critical Ethnic Studies.”

A <a href="https://www.city-journal.org/california-ethnic-studies-programs-merchants-of-revolution" target="_blank" rel="noopener">similar bill was passed for California high schools</a> in March of 2021. Students will now be prevented from graduating unless they take courses that include “land acknowledgments” and lessons on <a href="https://www.city-journal.org/california-ethnic-studies-programs-merchants-of-revolution" target="_blank" rel="noopener">”decolonizing” students from capitalism, the patriarchy, and settler colonialism.</a>

Dr. Schwaller praises California's mandate in an interview with a progressive radio station based in Redding, CA. At the 19-minute mark, he asserts the necessity <a href="http://apps.kcnr1460.com/media//podcasts//_2021-06-26.mp3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">for students to learn how our nation was founded on genocide and the constitution enshrined slavery</a>.

Further, in the same interview, Dr. Schwaller additionally details his use of the book, “<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/52048467-how-the-south-won-the-civil-war" target="_blank" rel="noopener">How the South Won the Civil War</a>,” in-class lectures. The author—Heather Cox Richardson—argues that modern conservative icons like Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan embody the “ideology of the confederacy.”

Dr. Schwaller’s commentary is featured across various platforms—most notably as a contributor for the Northern California-based ANewsCafe—<a href="https://anewscafe.com/author/shawn-schwaller/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> to further disparage conservatives as bigoted, violent, and homophobic</a>.

Much of his ire is directed towards political activists and Christians based in Northern California. Beginning in 2021, Dr. Schwaller began work on what will eventually be a 4-part series on the State of Jefferson. In what would become the 51st state, the State of Jefferson is campaigning—primarily supported by conservatives—<a href="https://soj51.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">to create a new state from primarily rural states in Northern California and Southern Oregon</a>.

Dr. Schwaller devotes much of his 3-part series to defame campaign operatives and conservatives at-large. In Part 1, he alleges that <a href="https://anewscafe.com/2021/04/14/redding/in-the-closet-of-jefferson-state-part-one-economic-social-realities-in-californias-pro-trump-successionist-far-north/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trump supporters covet a “white, patriarchal” America</a>.

In Part 2, he cites the tragic murder of two gay men in Redding by a pair of white supremacists in order to implicate that <a href="https://anewscafe.com/2021/04/28/redding/in-the-closet-of-jefferson-state-part-2-homophobic-and-white-christian-supremacist-hate/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">conservatives and Christians are animated violent and homophobic</a> malice. Continuing, Dr. Schwaller demonizes guns as a “key component” of conservatives’ “toxic masculinity.” He again references the prior incident as proof that gun owners pose a direct threat to the gay community.

Dr. Schwaller continues to level these pejoratives at Christians, particularly at individuals associated with the Bethel Church in Redding, California. In multiple instances, he even designates Christians as deserving of the violence inflicted upon them by the anarchist group ANTIFA.

As<a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/dhs-leaked-email-confirms-that-antifa-is-an-organized-group" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> reported</a> by The Post-Millennial, leaked emails from the Department of Homeland Security show that law enforcement agencies identify ANTIFA as an organization that engages in “organized” rather than sporadic violence. Many<a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/dhs-leaked-email-confirms-that-antifa-is-an-organized-group" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> members arm themselves with knives and firearms</a> to violently confront conservatives at events. In the Summer of 2021, <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/dhs-leaked-email-confirms-that-antifa-is-an-organized-group">members of ANTIFA brazenly attacked Senator Rand Paul and his wife</a> as they walked through Washington D.C.

In August of 2021, members of a Portland-based ANTIFA group forcefully shut down a Christian prayer rally, assaulting and macing attendees and their children in the process.

In his article, Dr. Schwaller not only downplays the violence but seeks to <a href="https://anewscafe.com/2021/08/12/redding/sean-feuchts-new-brand-of-bethel-church-inspired-radical-militant-christianity-on-display-in-portland/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">justify the attack, describing it as a response to “intensely violent rhetoric</a>” 0f a "white Christian supremacist" in attendance.

Dr. Schwaller again defends ANTIFA members present at the “Let Us Pray,” event in Washington D.C, <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/dhs-leaked-email-confirms-that-antifa-is-an-organized-group" target="_blank" rel="noopener">describing their actions as “protesting” the “far-right, and white and Christian supremacist groups</a>.”

At the same rally, which attracted thousands of attendees and hosted numerous pastors, he <a href="https://anewscafe.com/2021/09/20/redding/sean-feucht-far-right-christians-descend-on-washington-d-c-for-september-11th-let-us-worship-event/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">mocked one speaker's suggestion that North Korea persecuted Christians</a>. Responding to a statement by Pastor Che Ahn—a California- based pastor who was a featured speaker—Dr. Schwaller declares that it is a “myth” that North Korea persecutes members of the Christian Church.

Despite Dr. Schwaller’s denial, North Korea's persecution<a href="https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2020/december/north-korea-persecution-christians-human-rights-report-kfi.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> of Christians is well documented</a>. Koreans<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20120813102840/http://www.christiantoday.com/article/new.reports.tell.of.executions.torture.of.christians.in.north.korea/4623-2.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> are routinely imprisoned and tortured by the government</a> for practicing their faith. Many have been <a href="https://nypost.com/2009/07/24/north-korea-executes-woman-for-giving-out-bibles/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">executed merely for passing out copies of the Bible</a>.

She is referring to the incident surrounding January 6, 2021 at the Capital <a href="https://www.npr.org/2021/02/09/965472049/the-capitol-siege-the-arrested-and-their-stories" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in which a number of protestors breached the Capitol’s Doors during certification of the 2020 Presidential Election</a>, some violently so. Despite claims to the contrary, even the FBI has determined that <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/fbi-confirms-there-was-no-insurrection-on-january-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">no evidence exists that any rioters coordinated to commit an “insurrection.</a>”
Dr. Ben-Ghiat alleges that general access to lethal weapons enables “mass death” and a “democratic decline” in America. She bizarrely connects the January 6th “insurrection” to civilian ownership of firearms, alleging the later enables “mass death” and desensitizes others to human life.
Dr. Ben-Ghiat further alleges that gun owners are willing to harm others in exchange for their freedoms, alleging that no loss of life seems to deter them:

<a href="https://med.nyu.edu/faculty/arthur-l-caplan">Arthur Caplan</a> is the Dr. William F. and Virginia Connolly Mitty Professor of Bioethics at New York University (NYU) and Director of the Division of Medical Ethics at NYU.

Censorship
As <a href="http://www.campusreform.org/?ID=6690">reported</a> by Campus Reform, Caplan compares Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign to the rise of Adolf Hitler.

In the weeks following Donald Trump’s <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/donald-trump-announces-2016-presidential-campaign-make-country/story?id=31799741">announcement</a> that he would seek the 2016 Republican nomination, Caplan writes in <a href="https://www.poynter.org/reporting-editing/2015/commentary-the-danger-of-laughing-at-donald-trump/">Poynter, </a> a non-profit journalism and research center, that news organizations must hold Trump and the Republican party accountable “for the damage [Trump] does.” Caplan characterizes Trump’s views as racist and legitimizing of those American citizens who fear changing demographics.

While acknowledging that he views Trump’s chances as winning the nomination for the presidency unlikely, Kaplan draws parallels between Trump's campaign and the unexpected rise of Hitler in Germany.

Caplan further states in the same article that Trump is dangerous and that his speech is a classic ploy to generate fear and sow divisiveness.  Caplan urges journalists to treat more seriously the “danger” that Trump poses. Caplan accuses Trump of characterizing Mexicans as being criminals, rapists, and carrying diseases. Caplan says that these characterizations are similar to the rhetorical tactics used by the Nazi party against the Jews.

Despite his comparisons of Trump to Hitler, Caplan <a href="http://www.bioethics.net/2005/07/misusing-the-nazi-analogy/">argued</a> against the use of Nazi analogies to describe other people or political movements. In an article for bioethics.net, Caplan <a href="http://www.bioethics.net/2005/07/misusing-the-nazi-analogy/">states</a> that often those who draw analogies in arguments to Nazis, “do not know what they are talking about.”

<a href="http://gallatin.nyu.edu/people/faculty/flr207.html">Dr. Frank Roberts</a>, a professor at New York University, warned of “Jewish elites” controlling the media, a favorite trope of anti-Semites.  He tweeted “Its crucial for the public to realize that NBC/MSNBC,The NYTimes,US News &amp; World Report, &amp; the NY Daily News are all owned by Jewish elites” and “Speaking out against Israel's massacre &amp; Jewish elites' monopoly of the American free press is not anti-Semitic. #Gaza, #Flotilla, #OilSpill.”

<a href="http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/faculty/Mark_Crispin_Miller">Dr. Mark Crispin Miller</a>, a professor at New York University warned that President Bush was spreading propaganda in order to form a theocracy in the United States. He also compared Bush to Hitler, saying “All the major war-drives in modern history... in Germany, in the Soviet Union, and in the Middle East -- have been impelled by people who believed that they were at risk, that they were being persecuted, that they faced annihilation. Hitler actually believed that 'world Jewry' threatened Germany, and that his bloody enterprise was a means of self-defense against the Jews. We know all too well that al-Qaeda's people universally regard the Jews and Christians as plotting to wipe out Islam. And the Christo-fascist types now in control of the United States believe that they're the victims of non-Christians."

<a href="https://as.nyu.edu/content/nyu-as/as/faculty/ulrich-c-baer.html">Dr. Ulrich Baer</a> is a Professor of Comparative Literature at New York University. He wrote an editorial in the New York Times supporting the suppression of free speech on college campuses. He claimed "The idea of freedom of speech does not mean a blanket permission to say anything anybody thinks. It means balancing the inherent value of a given view with the obligation to ensure that other members of a given community can participate in discourse as fully recognized members of that community."

<a href="https://gallatin.nyu.edu/people/faculty/amh20.html">Amin Husain</a> is a part-time faculty member at New York University and the Pratt Institute. According to the university’s website, Husain’s work focuses on “resistance and liberation, movement generated theory and practice.”

Husain is also confounded and directs the NYC-based activist group, “<a href="https://decolonizethisplace.org/">Decolonize This Place</a>” (DTP).  According to their website, DTP events center around “Indigenous Struggle, Black Liberation, Free Palestine, Global Wage Workers, and De-Gentrification.”

Husain and DTP are known for their extreme rhetoric and aggressive confrontations with law enforcement. Husain and DTP utilize ANTIFA style-tactics during protests. The <a href="https://decolonizethisplace.org/">homepage</a> of DTP regularly features videos of burning police vehicles.

Prior to the Museum of Natural History’s decision to remove their statue of Theodore Roosevelt, Husain joined a chorus of activists demanding that the statue be removed. DTP itself <a href="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5c5e0c57d86cc9226827c754/t/5ee7ad184833d0007a2078fd/1592241433767/How+To+Take+Down+A+Monument_Poster.jpg">posted</a> a detailed graphic with instructions on toppling statues.

In January, DTP posted the following graphic for an upcoming <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=14391">protest</a> against the NYP. The damage from the protests led by Husain resulted in 13 arrests and over $100,000 in <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/02/15/nyu-professor-founded-anarchist-group-that-attacked-subways-last-month/">damages</a> to the NYC subway system.

As a member of NYC Solidarity With Palestine, Husain is known for using his position to entwine his anti-police and anti-Israel views. Husain projected his radicalism at the June “No To Annexation” rally, hosted by the anti-Israel group <a href="https://www.wolpalestine.com/about">Within Our Lifetimes</a>. Husain can be seen telling the crowd that police "are our enemy" in a video captured by the Middle-East watchdog the <a href="https://www.memri.org/tv/no-to-annexation-anti-israel-rally-abolish-police-israel-american-government-death-to-america">Middle East Research Institute</a>.

She is referring to the incident surrounding January 6, 2021 at the Capital <a href="https://www.npr.org/2021/02/09/965472049/the-capitol-siege-the-arrested-and-their-stories" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in which a number of protestors breached the Capitol’s Doors during certification of the 2020 Presidential Election</a>, some violently so. Despite claims to the contrary, even the FBI has determined that <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/fbi-confirms-there-was-no-insurrection-on-january-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">no evidence exists that any rioters coordinated to commit an “insurrection.</a>”

Dr. Ben-Ghiat alleges that general access to lethal weapons enables “mass death” and a “democratic decline” in America. She bizarrely connects the January 6th “insurrection” to civilian ownership of firearms, alleging the later enables “mass death” and desensitizes others to human life.

Dr. Ben-Ghiat further alleges that gun owners are willing to harm others in exchange for their freedoms, alleging that no loss of life seems to deter them:

She then connects gun ownership to a rise of fascism in America, alleging that dictators controlled masses through a climate of fear and mass death. She states that gun owners are using this same formula to encourage “fundamentalist and cult ideologies'':

Courses taught by Archer include the titles “Race and Inequality Colloquium”, “Civil Rights Clinic Seminar”, and “Critical Race Theory Seminar.” The <a href="https://its.law.nyu.edu/courses/description.cfm?id=29639" target="_blank" rel="noopener">description for CRT Seminary</a> says,

In 2020, Archer published “<a href="https://cdn.vanderbilt.edu/vu-wp0/wp-content/uploads/sites/278/2020/10/19130728/White-Mens-Roads-Through-Black-Mens-Homes-Advancing-Racial-Equity-Through-Highway-Reconstruction.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">White Men’s Road Through Black Men’s Homes”: Advancing Racial Equity Through Highway Reconstruction</a>” in the Vanderbilt Law Review. The paper discusses segregated public transportation in the United States prior to Civil Rights reform. Archer’s introduction says,

“The passage of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956, popularly known as the National Interstate and Defense Highways Act or the Interstate Highway Act, buoyed both highway construction and the destruction of Black communities. Often under the guise of ‘slum removal,’ federal and state officials' purposes targeted Black communities to make a way for massive highway projects.”

She continued,

“In other communities, the highway spared Black homes but became a permanent racial barrier between white and Black neighborhoods, further entrenching racial segregation and walling off economic opportunities.”

Archer’s efforts and research to end racial segregation continue through the Center on Race, Inequity, and the Law. The Center published a video titled “The Enduring Problem of School Segregation” in which civil rights activists and lawmakers are interviewed regarding the progress of integration in the American education systems.

Leonard <a href="https://www.google.com/books/edition/The_Future_We_Want/7IYpAgAAQBAJ?hl=en&amp;gbpv=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">co-authored a book</a> titled “The Future We Want: Radical Solutions for the 21st Century”. In the introduction, she writes,

“The most grotesque feature of the 2016 election is the razor-thin spectrum of solutions proposed by the front runners to a historic set of problems…no viable candidate [offered] any hope for a radically more equal society: the policies on offer would merely mitigate the dire inequality that has been growing since Reagan…The United States is now, in effect, an oligarchy.”

In the chapter Sex Class, she says, 

“Gender currently divides the working class — women’s struggles are often pushed aside as if they are not half the population — but it shouldn’t be central to our struggle, an asset…The first step toward gender justice would require a reexamination of the nuclear family.”

After the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022, Leonard — who serves as the editor-in-chief for Lux Magazine — published an opinion editorial titled “<a href="https://lux-magazine.com/article/the-next-abortion-strategy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Next Abortion Strategy</a>.” In the opening paragraph, she writes,

“Some part of me laughs as these conservatives grasping for control over women when somewhere, right now, a pregnant person is self-managing an abortion and a hundred Brett Kavanaughs can’t stop it. We’ve always had abortions and we will tomorrow and the next day.”

Leonard was featured in <a href="https://www.yaf.org/news/nyu-hosts-panel-on-sexual-reproductive-justice-featuring-professor-who-defended-violence-against-pro-life-centers-and-universitys-associate-director-of-sexua/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an article from Young America’s Foundation</a> (YAF) after she appeared as a panel member for New York University’s discussion “Sexual &amp; Reproductive Justice.” YAF identified Leonard as a “[defender of] the actions of violent abortion activists following the landmark Dobbs victor in the Supreme Court..”

<a href="https://socialwork.columbia.edu/faculty-research/faculty/adjunct/danielle-elleman/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Danielle Elleman</a> is an Adjunct Lecturer at the Columbia School of Social Work, Supervisor of the Bellevue Hospital Victim Services Program, and the Associate Director of New York University’s Center for Sexual and Relationship Respect Services. 

Elleman is a co-host of the Center’s podcast <a href="https://www.nyu.edu/students/health-and-wellness/services/healthy-living/good-sex-at-nyu.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Good Sex @ NYU</a>, where guests join her to discuss sexually explicit topics and answer general questions from students on campus. The podcast homepage — which describes the show as “sometimes serious, sometimes funny, always sex-positive” — says,

“We aim to destigmatize conversations around sex and relationships while providing practical information to NYU students and our community. In October 2022, Elleman was a participant in NYU’s Student Government Association panel discussion on “Reproductive and Sexual Justice.” The session was closed to the general public but the description on Instagram says the event was held “to spread awareness about advocacy motives and initiatives on campus and beyond.”

According to her university profile, she “teaches graduate-level courses in integrated marketing, digital and social media, media relations, corporate communications and more.”

Responding to Dr. Phil’s question about the censorship of “hate speech,” Gambrell stated: 

“I am extremely in favor of the First Amendment…but we have seen things that happen when social media is not censored…where there’s negativity there should be censorship.” She cited what she deemed were instances of racist, homophobic, and other types of “nasty” behavior recorded on social media posts, but gave no examples.

Gambrell believes that, “In certain instances where [a social media post is] harmful, in certain instances where it can hurt people, where there’s negative intent, there should be censorship.” 

The NYU professor — who formerly held jobs in U.S. media — went on to say she feels satisfaction when users of hate speech lose their jobs because of what they posted on social media:
“In some instances where I see viral videos where someone is clearly racist or homophobic or anything nasty and then the video goes viral, they lose their job, I’m like ‘score’ because that person does not deserve to have this title which can impact certain communities, they need to work on themselves.”

While he is supposed to make sure his school is opened to all students, he ostracized Trump supporters by blasting Trump in a school-wide e-mail. In a self-congratulatory e-mail, Schall applauded himself for coming out in support of strict gun control measures as well as speaking out against Trump. He wrote, “I still find it difficult this morning to believe that the majority of voters in our country chose to elect a man whose views on civility and inclusivity are so at odds with mine and with the values of our Oglethorpe community. This morning, I can manage to get past his inexperience and lack of public service even though virtually every editorial page in the country, left or right-leaning, failed to endorse him because of those traits. What I cannot get past, and I will refuse to overlook, is a future of America that is divided by race, religion, sexual identity, and country of origin.” He <a href="https://source.oglethorpe.edu/2019/04/30/long-serving-oglethorpe-university-president-lawrence-m-schall-to-step-down-next-year/">stepped down</a> from his position in mid-2020.

<a href="https://chemistry.mines.edu/project/holz-richard-c/">Dr. Richard Holz</a> is a Professor of Chemistry and Provost at the Colorado School of Mines and formerly served as a Dean at Marquette University. While at Marquette, he subverted university policy and a professor's contract to carry out an investigation into the blogging of a conservative professor, John McAdams. McAdams had stepped in to defend a student who supported traditional marriage and was called a bigot by his instructor. According to Holz, McAdams was responsible for the people who wrote vulgar things to the instructor.

Dr. Dorinda Carter Andrews is a <a href="https://education.msu.edu/people/carter-andrews-dorinda/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chairperson and Professor</a> at Michigan State University in the College of Education. Her research interests include racial justice and educational equity. Dr. Andrews has published articles for many media outlets and journals and has given two <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3N23MXsow8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TED Talks</a> in relation to critical race theory and racial gaps in education.

In an <a href="https://www.hourdetroit.com/education-schools/a-critical-race-theory-expert-on-how-something-benign-became-toxic/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article for Hour Detroit</a>, Dr. Andrews accuses conservatives of “gaslighting” by being against critical race theory. Dr. Andrews alleges conservatives “cry CRT” any time an educator teaches something from America’s history that puts them in a “bad light,” even if it’s true. She goes on to insinuate that conservatives don’t want educators teaching black history at all.

In a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOrgf3wTUbo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TED Talk given in 2014</a>, Dr. Andrews discussed racial inequity in the education system. She argues that the education system was founded in white supremacy,  making it nearly impossible for students of color to get ahead. She claims that students of color and poor students are already behind the curve before they even step foot into the classroom, and it’s unfair to expect the same levels of success for them compared to white students.

Dr. Andrews is a critical race theorist who pushes anti-white rhetoric in the classroom. In her opinion, racism is so deeply embedded into our education system that students of color have no chance of getting ahead if critical race theory isn’t taught in the classroom. In her eyes, conservatives are only against critical race theory because they fear it paints them in a negative light.

Carla Pfeffer is an <a href="https://socialwork.msu.edu/directory/pfeffer-carla.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Associate Professor of Social Work</a> and Director of the Consortium for Sexual and Gender Minority Health at Michigan State University.

Professor Pfeffer is outspoken about her pro-choice beliefs. She was quoted in an MSU Today article titled: <a href="https://msutoday.msu.edu/news/2022/Roe-V-Wade-decision-MSU-experts-discuss" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Roe v. Wade overturned: Michigan State University experts discuss.”</a> Pfeffer stated:
“Consistent governmental inaction in regard to protecting all children from poverty, gun violence, and police violence reveals the hypocrisy of legally restricting abortion. Rather than protecting children, banning abortion is about governmental power and control over marginalized bodies and crass political maneuvering to appease a conservative base.” 
She continued:
“In discussions about the overturn of Roe v. Wade, people who are lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and non-binary tend to be left out of the conversation.”
She finished her statement by claiming that members of the LGBTQ community “often face disproportionately higher rates of unintended and unwanted pregnancy” and that abortion access is “critical for ensuring physical and mental health.”

In September 2022, Pfeffer wrote an article for <a href="https://theconversation.com/transgender-men-and-nonbinary-people-are-asked-to-stop-testosterone-therapy-during-pregnancy-but-the-evidence-for-this-guidance-is-still-murky-187672" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Conversation</a> where she argued that transgender men and nonbinary people should not have to stop testosterone therapy while they are pregnant. Although many doctors told Pfeffer that there is “not enough or inconclusive research on supplemental testosterone during pregnancy,” Pfeffer argues that “testosterone therapy is often essential to the mental and physical health” of transgender people.

Pfeffer believes that “careful attention to the physical and mental health and well-being of trans and nonbinary people before, during and after pregnancy is long overdue in medicine” and that:
“Instead of approaching testosterone therapy during pregnancy as a yes/no question or a one-size-fits-all standard, investigating how various dosages of testosterone may affect all stages of pregnancy and chestfeeding could lead to better outcomes for both trans patients and their children.”

Dr. Melissa Fore is a <a href="https://jmc.msu.edu/about/directory/Fore.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Visiting Assistant Professor and Director of the James Madison College Reading and Writing Center</a> at Michigan State University. Dr. Fore teaches in the first-year writing program and is a core faculty member MSU’s Center for Gender in a Global Context.

Dr. Fore’s professor biography states:
“Her writing classroom explores how concepts of race, class, gender, and sexuality are culturally constructed through social, political, and economic values. She asks students to consider how the cycles of socialization have influenced their understanding of identity and community in order to engage in writing assignments that examine structural racism, the affordable housing crisis, and challenging gender norms.” 
In April 2019, <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=12117" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform</a> reported that Professor Fore canceled class to allow her students to attend a conference on race and socialism. The James Madison College Office of Diversity Programming described the event as “fundamentally designed to examine systems of power and privilege in the United States, especially the impact of these ‘systems’ on communities of color.”

Dr. Fore is a facilitator for <a href="https://www.awaretogether.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AWARE (Advancing White Anti-Racist Education) Together.</a> The AWARE Together website states that the organization “offers white anti-racist education programs for groups and associations that are committed to seeing the realities of racism and taking anti-racist action.” Further, the <a href="https://www.awaretogether.org/purpose.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">‘Purpose’ page</a> states: “White people benefit from the social and economic systems that perpetuate racism. Ending the terror and injustice of white supremacy can only be accomplished if white people work to be anti-racist.”

Professor Fore’s <a href="https://www.awaretogether.org/facilitators.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">facilitator biography</a> states:
“In examining her own identity as a white woman, Melissa came to see how identity formation is linked to power and privilege, and how dismantling white supremacy is central to social, political, and economic justice.” 
Dr. Fore co-founded the Marble Elementary School Equity Team and is the Co-Chair of the <a href="https://elps.us/our-district/board-of-education/committees/reproductive-health-advisory-committee/sex-education-advisory-board-members/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">East Lansing Sex Education Advisory Board.</a> The Sex Education Advisory Board has a document titled the <a href="https://elps.us/downloads/school_board_-_committee_documents/k-5_consent_toolkit_moash_1.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">‘K-5 Consent Toolkit.’</a> The document is intended for Michigan educators, parents, caregivers, and students and includes standards and curriculum for elementary school students.

The document states that by the end of second grade, students should be able to: list medically accurate names for genitals, define gender, gender identity, and gender role stereotypes, and discuss the range of ways people express gender and how gender role stereotypes may limit behavior.

The document also provides links to <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IJ2hD7bECD1gkWoDND5s5sRYG37RYPRf/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suggested lesson plans.</a> One of these lesson plans, titled “Understanding Our Bodies - The Basics,” tells students that “There are some body parts that mostly just girls have and some parts that mostly just boys have.”

Another lesson plan, titled “Pink, Blue and Purple,” instructs students on gender identity, stating: “You might feel like you are a boy, you might feel like you are a girl. You might feel like you’re a boy even if you have body parts that some people might tell you are ‘girl’ parts. Adrienne Keene is a faculty member and Assistant Professor of American Studies for Brown University’s Native American and Indigenous Studies Initiative. <a href="https://www.brown.edu/academics/native-american-and-indigenous-studies/faculty" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Keene’s university profile</a> says her work “[engages] questions of creating Indigenous futures through higher education, specifically thinking through the role of college in projects of Indigenous nation building.”

Professor Keene, who identifies as a “citizen of the Cherokee Nation,” says Native American tribes are misrepresented in society, and imagery “is not representative of the vast diversity of Native America.” In 2015, <a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=9798" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform reported</a> Keenee describing herself as a “‘white-coded indigenous woman.’” During that time she taught an online critical race theory course “to serve as ‘an online interactive space and resource hub.’”

She included "cultural markers, religious symbols, and spiritual practices" in her definition. Regarding the harmfulness of cultural appropriation, she said, “What happens is that cultural appropriation can’t really be separated from systems of power that are already in place.”

Daniel Pemstein

<a href="https://michacardenas.sites.ucsc.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Micha Cardenas </a>is an Associate Chair and Associate Professor of Performance, Play and Design, and Associate Professor of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Cardenas is also an activist. He is <a href="http://transbodies.com/people/micha-cardenas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">described by Transbodies</a> as a “mixed-race trans femme latina.” When referring to his name he leaves the first letters of both his first and last name uncapitalized (micha cardenas). 
Cardenas also considers himself an artist, and has produced several visual and digital works that have been displayed in museums and galleries. One of his works is called <a href="https://michacardenas.sites.ucsc.edu/pregnancy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Pregnancy”</a> which, according to Cardenas, is a “hybrid poetry/bioart project.” Cardenas says that “Pregnancy” presents a vision of trans latina reproductive futures, based on my experiences of cryogenic tissue banking, aka sperm banking, after having been on hormones for many years.” In one of the “poems” in this project, Cardenas says: 
“I am no testo junkie,
this is no experiment,
these are not drugs, they’re my body.
I take hormones every day of my life out of necessity,
just to have a body I can live in,
to avoid death,
to survive”
Cardenas created a video game called <a href="https://michacardenas.sites.ucsc.edu/sin-sol-no-sun/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Sin Sol/No Sun”</a>, which “is an augmented reality game that allows users to experience the feelings a [sic] climate change event, in order to deeply consider how climate change disproportionately effects immigrants, trans people and disabled people.” In the game: “​​Players can find, see and hear a story told through poetry about living through climate change induced wildfires, from a trans latinx AI hologram, Aura.” The game is set fifty years from 2018, the year when the project was released. 
Cardenas has written and published three books, the latest being “<a href="https://www.dukeupress.edu/Assets/PubMaterials/978-1-4780-1765-3_601.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Poetic Operations</a>.” The description for the book states that Cardenas, “considers contemporary digital media, artwork, and poetry in order to articulate trans of color strategies for safety and survival.”
Cardenas’ teaching philosophy, found on the <a href="https://danm.ucsc.edu/people/micha-c%C3%A1rdenas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Digital Arts New Media page for UC Santa Cruz</a>, claims that “the university [is] a site of political struggle. The university is a place created through colonial theft of land, where racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia are perpetuated, but we can all work to change that.” He concludes the paragraph with the following statement:  
“I will work to facilitate a space that we co-create together where everyone is empowered to speak. My grading practices focus on self-assessment, as I want to move away from carceral models of education and towards abolitionist futures.”

<a href="https://humanities.ucsc.edu/academics/faculty/index.php?uid=bettinaf">Dr. Bettina Aptheker</a> is a Distinguished Professor of Feminist Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Aptheker was raised by well-known members of the Communist party and then continued membership into her adult life, including being a leader of Leftist groups at her college as a student in the 1960s.

She currently teaches feminist studies and calls her teaching philosophy “revolutionary praxis.” The goal of this style is to subvert the traditional “male-centered” teaching methodology and replace it with a “woman-centered perspective.”

<a href="https://humanities.ucsc.edu/academics/faculty/index.php?uid=aydavis">Angela Davis</a> is a professor emeritus at the University of California at Santa Cruz, and previously taught Women's and Feminist Studies at San Francisco State University. A 20th-century icon for the Left, Davis’s profile has seen a resurgence after her speech at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSGPGNJpaE0&amp;ab_channel=DemocracyNow%21" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the 2017 Women's March</a>, in which she was an honorary co-chair.

Throughout her career, there was seemingly no cause or desport too radical for Davis, who regularly toured Communist nations and embraced brutal dictatorships. Davis appeared twice on the ballot as the <a href="https://cms.frontpagemag.com/fpm/2020/07/biden-bags-angela-davis-endorsement-lloyd-billingsley" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Communist Party’s candidate for Vice-President</a> and has spent her career since advocating for abolishing prisons and the police.

<a href="https://www.history.com/topics/black-history/angela-davis">Davis</a> grew up between Birmingham, Alabama and New York City, and spent her early academic career being <a href="https://spectator.org/womens-marchers-unite/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">mentored by Frankfurt School academic Herbert Marcuse</a>. In the 1960’s she became a member of the Black Panthers and Communist Parties. <a href="http://web.stanford.edu/~ccarson/articles/am_left.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Black Panthers</a> were a Marxist-Leninist organization co-led by Huey Newton, whose involvement is <a href="https://www.salon.com/1999/12/13/betty/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspected in multiple murders</a> allegedly committed by the Panthers. Davis has described the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WRDrkBZYA4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Black Lives Matter movement</a> as the “contemporary Black Panther Party.”

One of the most notorious crimes the Black Panthers or Davis were ever associated with was the Marin County Civic Center Attack. On August 7th, 1970, Jonathan Jackson stormed the Marin County courtroom and took hostages in an attempt to negotiate the release of his brother, George, who was on trial for murdering a prison guard. In the ensuing shootout, 4 were killed including Judge Harold Haley. <a href="https://archives.frontpagemag.com/fpm/hollywoods-undying-love-communist-angela-davis-arnold-ahlert/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Davis had bought the weapons</a> used by Jonathan in the shoot-out and was later discovered to be in a relationship with George Jackson. Despite numerous witnesses who implicated Davis in the kidnapping plot to free Jackson, she was acquitted by a sympathetic jury.

Following her acquittal, Davis went on a prolific tour of Communist nations. One of her first stops was a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veqcoxk3keo&amp;ab_channel=AfroMarxist" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Havana rally</a> with <a href="https://www.cato.org/blog/fidel-castro-worst-worst" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dictator Fidel Castro</a> of whom <a href="https://www.cato.org/blog/fidel-castro-worst-worst" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Davis has praised</a> throughout her career.

During her trial, the Soviet Union had begun vocally and financially supporting Davis. Eastern bloc nations <a href="https://www.cato.org/blog/fidel-castro-worst-worst" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ordered its citizens to send letters of support to Davis</a> and to protest Ronald Reagan, who was then serving as Governor of California, for her prosecution. It is estimated that 5% of the Soviet propaganda budget was spent just on boosting Angela Davis’s image around the world. She soon visited the USSR, where she <a href="https://www.cato.org/blog/fidel-castro-worst-worst" target="_blank" rel="noopener">received the Lenin Peace Prize</a> in Moscow.

Davis frequently praised and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vu9QbgUHnK8&amp;ab_channel=AfroMarxist">defended the Soviet Union</a> for the rest of her career.

Despite her advocacy on behalf of prisoners, when confronted with the grim reality of the millions of dissidents in Soviet gulags, <a href="https://www.cato.org/blog/fidel-castro-worst-worst" target="_blank" rel="noopener">she refused to so much as lift a finger</a>;

When asked to assist <a href="https://www.cato.org/blog/fidel-castro-worst-worst" target="_blank" rel="noopener">persecuted Jews in the Soviet Union</a>, Davis refused to help with the same sentiments;

Davis has met with and offered support to radicals throughout her career. In 2009, she headlined a <a href="https://www.cato.org/blog/fidel-castro-worst-worst" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dinner honoring Jeremiah Wright</a>, the pastor of former President Obama who delivered <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4443788">sermons blaming America for 9/11 and asking God to damn America</a>.

An associate to Jim Jones, Davis addressed his followers at Jonestown and <a href="https://www.cato.org/blog/fidel-castro-worst-worst" target="_blank" rel="noopener">praised the cult leader</a>, who would later <a href="https://www.history.com/topics/crime/jonestown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">direct a mass suicide</a> of hundreds at his compound, for his “struggle” against racism.

Davis describes the country and free markets as replete with racism. In an <a href="https://www.history.com/topics/crime/jonestown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">appearance at the Qatari-owned Al-Jazeera</a>, Davis stated that racism is embedded into the fabric of our nation and that there is a “genealogical relationship” between policing and slavery. This is a <a href="https://www.history.com/topics/crime/jonestown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">central plank to Davis’s work</a> on “abolition,” which includes the abolition of prisons, police, and capitalism at-large.

Davis has lent support for convicted cop killers <a href="https://www.history.com/topics/crime/jonestown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Assata Shakur</a> and <a href="https://www.history.com/topics/crime/jonestown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mumia Abu-Jamal</a>. She has <a href="https://www.history.com/topics/crime/jonestown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">described Assata Shakur</a> as a “political refugee” and a victim of FBI repression. She <a href="https://old.post-gazette.com/regionstate/19991013davis5.asp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">met with Abu-Jamal numerous times</a> to advocate for his release, despite his <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20071221080800/http://www.justice4danielfaulkner.com/Days/6-24-82.html">confession</a> to murdering officer Daniel Faulkner.

Davis has also advocated for the <a href="https://old.post-gazette.com/regionstate/19991013davis5.asp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">release of Marwan Barghouti</a>. As the leader of the Al-Aqsa brigades, Barghouti was responsible for directing the suicide bombers that resulted in the <a href="https://old.post-gazette.com/regionstate/19991013davis5.asp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">murder of dozens of Israelis</a>.

Opposed even to the existence of the state of Israel, Davis is a <a href="https://old.post-gazette.com/regionstate/19991013davis5.asp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vocal advocate of BDS</a> (the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement) to dismantle the state of Israel and has falsely accused Israel of numerous human rights violations. In a speech at the University of Houston, she accused <a href="https://old.post-gazette.com/regionstate/19991013davis5.asp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Israelis of funding police brutality</a> and racism in America.

Despite being officially retired from teaching, Davis still maintains an active schedule of lectures, speaking tours, and media appearances on and off American campuses.

<a href="https://michacardenas.sites.ucsc.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Micha Cardenas </a>is an Associate Chair and Associate Professor of Performance, Play and Design, and Associate Professor of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Cardenas is also an activist. He is <a href="http://transbodies.com/people/micha-cardenas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">described by Transbodies</a> as a “mixed-race trans femme latina.” When referring to his name he leaves the first letters of both his first and last name uncapitalized (micha cardenas). 

Cardenas also considers himself an artist, and has produced several visual and digital works that have been displayed in museums and galleries. One of his works is called <a href="https://michacardenas.sites.ucsc.edu/pregnancy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Pregnancy”</a> which, according to Cardenas, is a “hybrid poetry/bioart project.” Cardenas says that “Pregnancy” presents a vision of trans latina reproductive futures, based on my experiences of cryogenic tissue banking, aka sperm banking, after having been on hormones for many years.” In one of the “poems” in this project, Cardenas says: 
“I am no testo junkie,
this is no experiment,
these are not drugs, they’re my body.
I take hormones every day of my life out of necessity,
just to have a body I can live in,
to avoid death,
to survive”
Cardenas created a video game called <a href="https://michacardenas.sites.ucsc.edu/sin-sol-no-sun/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Sin Sol/No Sun”</a>, which “is an augmented reality game that allows users to experience the feelings a [sic] climate change event, in order to deeply consider how climate change disproportionately effects immigrants, trans people and disabled people.” In the game: “​​Players can find, see and hear a story told through poetry about living through climate change induced wildfires, from a trans latinx AI hologram, Aura.” The game is set fifty years from 2018, the year when the project was released. 

Cardenas has written and published three books, the latest being “<a href="https://www.dukeupress.edu/Assets/PubMaterials/978-1-4780-1765-3_601.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Poetic Operations</a>.” The description for the book states that Cardenas, “considers contemporary digital media, artwork, and poetry in order to articulate trans of color strategies for safety and survival.”

Cardenas’ teaching philosophy, found on the <a href="https://danm.ucsc.edu/people/micha-c%C3%A1rdenas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Digital Arts New Media page for UC Santa Cruz</a>, claims that “the university [is] a site of political struggle. The university is a place created through colonial theft of land, where racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia are perpetuated, but we can all work to change that.” He concludes the paragraph with the following statement:  
“I will work to facilitate a space that we co-create together where everyone is empowered to speak. My grading practices focus on self-assessment, as I want to move away from carceral models of education and towards abolitionist futures.”

Dr. Rebecca Fowler is a professor at Washington State University. In her “Introduction to Comparative Ethnic Studies” class, Fowler takes one grade point away when a student uses the phrase “illegal alien” or “illegals.” The goal is that students will “come to recognize how white privilege functions in everyday social structures and institutions.”

In her “Women and Popular Culture” class, Breikss threatened to give students a failing grade for using verbiage she considers, “oppressive and hateful language.” The punishment includes, “but [is] not limited to removal from the class without attendance or participation points, failure of the assignment, and— in extreme cases— failure for the semester.”

According to The Cosair, a student newspaper at Santa Monica College covering the event, students <a href="https://www.thecorsaironline.com/corsair/culture/2016/05/23/romantic-walk-beach-ecosexual-club-marries-pacific-ocean">underwent</a> an “eco-boot camp” as part of the ecosextravaganza. Organizers included University of California Professor Elizabeth Stephens and pornographic actress, Annie Sprinkle. Organizers instruct the students in attendance to, “view Earth as a lover rather than as a mother and another being rather than a separate entity.” In an interview with Campus Reform, Katherine <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=7622">states</a> the goal of the event is for students to develop a “deeper love” and “lust” for the planet.

<a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/comm/people/regular-faculty/sdoug.html">Dr. Susan Douglas</a>, a professor at University of Michigan, publicized her hate for Republicans in an article from In These Times. She says, “I hate Republicans. I can’t stand the thought of having to spend the next two years watching Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Ted Cruz, Darrell Issa or any of the legions of other blowhards denying climate change, thwarting immigration reform or championing fetal ‘personhood.’”

<a href="http://fordschool.umich.edu/faculty/betsey-stevenson">Betsey Stevenson </a>is an associate professor of Economics at the University of Michigan. Stevenson made the list after making the claim that the lack of women found in Economics textbooks is the reason so few women pursue Economics as a major. In a study she conducted with Hanna Zlotnick, she found that 77% of people found in the leading Economics textbooks were male.

<a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/history/people/faculty/jrcole.html">Dr. Juan Cole</a> is a Professor of History at the University of Michigan. He believes right-wing Jews and an “Islamophobic network” were “a key influence” to the shooting that killed nine people at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C. He has also argued that recognizing Israel as a state is racist.

<a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/stats/people/faculty/fink.html">Nadiya Fink</a> is a statistics lecturer at University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. After a conservative activist satirically changed his preferred pronoun to "His Majesty", Fink threatened to punish any student who mocked the preferred pronoun system.

<a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/comm/people/regular-faculty/sdoug.html">Dr. Susan Douglas</a>, a professor at University of Michigan, publicized her hate for Republicans in an article from In These Times. She says, “I hate Republicans. Charles H.F. Davis is an Assistant Professor at the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education at the University of Michigan. He previously taught at the University of Southern California. According to his university biography, Davis’s research and teaching focuses on, “race and racism, systems of oppression, and structures of domination in U.S. higher education and its social contexts.”

Davis previously rose to notoriety in 2017 for a series of <a href="https://twitter.com/hfdavis?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor">racially inflammatory tweets</a>. As reported by <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/usc-professor-defends-tweet-promoting-violence-whiteness/">The College Fix</a>, he tweeted that “whiteness” must be destroyed and alluded to the necessity of violence in confronting it.

The background photo of his Twitter account at the time featured a black woman pointing a gun at a pig that clearly represents a caricature of a police officer. 

When contacted <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/usc-professor-defends-tweet-promoting-violence-whiteness/">The College Fix</a> over his remarks, Davis responded, “To be clear, I am decidedly against whiteness as a social and political ideology, which systematically marginalize and disenfranchise people of color from opportunities for societal advancement. In addition, I am against the institution of policing, which has historically and continuously enacted racial terror, sexual violence, and economic exploitation against racial minorities, women and LGBTQ communities, and economically disadvantaged working-class people.”

When asked if any of these tweets might make students uncomfortable, Davis <a href="http://hfdavis.com/blog/an-interview-with-a-conservative">responded</a> that any discomfort experienced by his white students is a result of their “white fragility.” 

Davis had previously advocated for the right of students to disrupt conservative speakers on campus. In the wake of <a href="https://badgerherald.com/news/2016/11/17/conservative-pundit-ben-shapiro-lectures-to-turbulent-crowd-on-safe-spaces-freedom-of-speech/">protesters heckling</a> Ben Shapiro’s lecture at the University of Wisconsin Madison, school regents approved a <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/nation-world/ct-university-of-wisconsin-protest-punishment-20171006-story.html">policy</a> to suspend or expel students that purposefully disrupt events. Davis’s subsequent <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/nation-world/ct-university-of-wisconsin-protest-punishment-20171006-story.html">op-ed</a> at Inside Higher Ed argued that this only reinforced white supremacy: “To be clear, it is a decision that reinforces institutionalized white supremacy -- and other oppressive forms of systemic power.” Davis argues that conservative speakers like Shapiro have hijacked the First Amendment to push “white supremacist agendas.”  

Davis’s website, which is listed by the University of Michigan on his biography, <a href="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/51ab9fa0e4b06a38e604420a/t/5edaf71d1ab0434751b2e960/1591408468354/HF+Davis+%E2%80%93%C2%A0EPK.pdf">advertises </a>that he has taught the issues of “ race, racism, and systemic oppression in education and society” to over “7,000 students, educators and institutional leaders.” The <a href="http://hfdavis.com/">home page</a> of the site also features links to organizations that advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement, abolishing the police, and boycotting the nation of Israel.

<a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/ac/people/faculty/jchl.html">John Cheney-Lippold</a> is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan whose work focuses on Internet Studies, Cultural Studies, and Algorithm Studies.

Lippold made<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=11317"> headlines</a> for his blatant discrimination against a pro-Israel student at Michigan. After agreeing to the initial request, he refused to write a letter of recommendation for her to study abroad in Israel due to his adherence to the academic boycott of the nation. In a now released email exchange, Lippold replied to the student’s request:

“As you may know, many university departments have pledged an academic boycott against Israel in support of Palestinians living in Palestine. This boycott includes writing letters of recommendations for students to study there.” 

In a<a href="https://nypost.com/2018/09/20/professor-draws-ire-after-declining-to-help-student-study-in-israel/"> statement</a> released by <a href="https://palestinelegal.org/">Palestine Legal</a>, he only proceeded to double-down and even compared Israel to Apartheid-era South Africa:

“I support the Palestinian boycott call because I am appalled at Israel’s continuing violation of Palestinian rights, and our government’s support for those violations...If a student had wanted to do a study abroad at an institution in Apartheid South Africa, I would have declined to write a letter for her as well.”

Professor Silke-Maria Weineck wrote a September 6, 2022, op-ed for The Chronicle of Higher Education titled <a href="https://archive.ph/GBDq6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Colleges Must Stop Trying to Appease the Right.”</a> The article begins by criticizing a university dean who had a conversation with a professor after a parent complained about one of the professor’s tweets. Weineck calls on her peers to stand up to Republicans, writing:
“Under the circumstances, it is not merely acceptable to denounce the GOP - clearly, loudly, profanely. It is our ethical and professional duty.” 
She goes on to say that the Republican Party has a “longstanding contempt for knowledge and expertise” in the fields of “history, public health, climate change, or ecology.”

She argues that colleges have an obligation to protect their faculty, staff, and students, saying:
“They must clearly insist on our people’s right not to be forced into pregnancy, not to be demeaned or disadvantaged due to their sexual orientation or gender identity, and to have all of their histories studied and told.” 
She finishes her opinion piece by quoting Ohio Republican Senate candidate J.D. Vance when he said that “professors are the enemy.” Weineck responds: “He is correct. He is our enemy, and we must be his. I welcome his hatred. As a modest start, I suggest that we no longer respond to Republicans who complain about professional tweets with anything other than a short form letter. I would be happy to draft it.”

This is not Weineck’s first anti-Republican opinion piece. In May 2021, she wrote another op-ed for The Chronicle of Higher Education titled <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20210520190416/https://www.chronicle.com/article/the-tenure-denial-of-nikole-hannah-jones-is-craven-and-dangerous" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“The Tenure Denial of Nikole Hannah-Jones is Craven and Dangerous.”</a> She argues that Nikole Hannah-Jones was denied tenure at the University of North Carolina because of Republicans and the “governors and trustees within the UNC system in particular.” She writes:
“Universities hire faculty members who work on the history of racism and share Hannah-Jones’s broad convictions and investments all the time, and regents, trustees, and governors do not get involved. Nikole Hannah-Jones is different because she drove the conversation into places where it could not be belittled or contained.” 
Dr. Weineck believes <a href="https://www.professorwatchlist.org/professor/nikolehannahjones" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hannah-Jones</a> is overqualified for tenure, saying: “The woman has a Pulitzer Prize and a MacArthur grant, and she spearheaded what is probably the most effective public-history effort in the history of the country, “The 1619 Project.””

The 1619 Project, originally a series of essays published in the New York Times and later developed into a book, “aims to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of our national narrative.” It argues that America was not founded in 1776 but in 1619, when the first enslaved Americans were brought to the Virginia colony, now the state of Virginia.

Weineck states that: “across the country, the GOP and its lickspittles have decided, in part precisely because of the success of “The 1619 Project,” that the correct way to address systemic racism is not only to deny its existence but to legally mandate this denial.” She argues that “universities are imperfect institutions, far more conservative than their reputation, and not nearly the force for good they imagine themselves to be.”

<a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/soc/people/faculty/erin-cech.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Erin Cech</a> is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Associate Professor by courtesy in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan.

Professor Cech authored a study titled “<a href="https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.abo1558" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The intersectional privilege of white able-bodied heterosexual men in STEM</a>.” In this paper, she <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/professor-studies-intersectional-privilege-of-white-able-bodied-heterosexual-men-in-stem/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">compared the experiences of “white able-bodied heterosexual men (WAHM)”</a> in the STEM fields to 31 other intersectional groups. Her study concludes that “...members of all other 31 intersectional groups experience significantly less social inclusion in their STEM jobs on average than WAHM experience….”

In a <a href="https://news.umich.edu/privileges-confirmed-for-straight-white-men-working-in-stem/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michigan News</a> press release, Cech said: “The findings show the importance of encouraging white men to recogize the privileges they may have access to, and commit to serving as allies to fight for change at the organizational and structural level.”
“It is everyone’s responsibility - advantaged and disadvantaged alike - to fight for more equitable climates and practices in STEM.”  
Cech wrote a study in June 2017 titled “<a href="https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/2378023117712395" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rugged Meritocratists: The Role of Overt Bias and the Meritocratic Ideology in Trump Supporters’ Opposition to Social Justice Efforts</a>.” Her work aimed to determine “whether and why Trump supporters are more likely than other Americans to oppose social justice efforts.”

She concludes that “Trump supporters are indeed more opposed to social justice efforts.” She says that Trump supporters “express greater overt race, class, and gender bias, yet this bias does not explain their opposition”:
“Rather, many Trump supporters are “rugged meritocratists” who oppose these efforts because they believe U.S. society is already fair. To expand support for social justice efforts, rugged meritocratists must first be convinced that systemic inequalities still exist.”

<a href="https://soe.umich.edu/directory/faculty-staff/deborah-loewenberg-ball" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deborah Loewenberg Ball</a> is the William H. Payne Collegiate Professor of Education and former dean of the School of Education at the University of Michigan. According to her university profile, Ball says her research focuses on “leveraging the power of teaching to disrupt racism, marginalization, and inequity.”

Bell was featured in a July 2021 episode of the <a href="https://gsehd.gwu.edu/edfix-ts-ep23" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EdFix Podcast</a>, where she argued that mathematics is racist. She claims that math is a “Harbor for whiteness” and said,
“...what’s also very difficult is to get people to see how the very nature of the knowledge and who’s produced it, and what has counted as Mathematics is itself also dominated by whiteness and by racism.” 
To provide an example of this racism, she states:
“This is really important because we do see patterns about who succeeds in Math in this country and it’s overwhelmingly white and Asian. It’s overwhelmingly still male once you get on with Mathematics.” 
She continues:
“So how about noticing that and being willing to open ourselves up to the question of how racism has permeated Mathematics and the way it’s represented in school and take the time to unfold that and to figure out what that would mean for looking at a better way of a curriculum and the pedagogy of Math in school.” 
Professor Ball wrote a March 2021 op-ed for the Detroit Free Press titled, <a href="https://www.freep.com/story/opinion/contributors/2021/03/21/why-school-isnt-safe-place-every-child/6937638002/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Why school isn’t a safe place for every child.”</a> In this article, she argues that schools are often unsafe for children of color and that COVID provided an opportunity for “many Black and Brown children to be out of the white gaze of punishment and deficit views” which “was a welcome respite from fear and control.”

She also argues that the curriculum in schools has been “unsafe,” writing:
“The images, knowledge, people and values that permeate history, science and art, as well as mathematics, language and text are harmful. They distort the experiences of Indigenous people, of Black communities and of immigrant groups. They reinscribe whiteness, heteronormativity and English as normal and desirable.” 
She concludes her op-ed by stating that schools need to “take a fuller view of the safety needed to dismantle anti-Blackness and white supremacy in our educational systems” as students and staff return to in-person schooling.

<a href="https://michigan.law.umich.edu/faculty-and-scholarship/our-faculty/barbara-l-mcquade" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Barbara McQuade</a> is a professor at the University of Michigan Law School. According to her university profile, her interests include criminal law, criminal procedure, national security, data privacy, and civil rights. She was appointed by President Obama and served as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan from 2010 to 2017.

McQuade has been outspoken about her belief that former President Trump should be charged with manslaughter for the events that took place on January 6, 2021. On July 16, she wrote an op-ed for MSNBC titled, <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/did-trump-commit-manslaughter-jan-6-committee-doj-should-find-n1297314" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“The case for charging Trump with manslaughter.”</a>

In this article, McQuade argues that the “loss of life was predictable in light of the size of the mob, their emotional state and their use of force.” She believes Trump knew the crowd was armed and said, “Unlike most members of the public who have no duty to take action to prevent a crime, a president has a constitutional duty to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.””

She concludes her comments by writing:
“Donald Trump once said he could “stand in the middle [of] Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody” and not lose any voters. Can he also cause the deaths of five people and not lose his liberty?” 
She tweeted a link to her op-ed on October 25, 2022 with the caption, “Here is my analysis of involuntary manslaughter charges for Trump. McQuade is also outspoken about her beliefs on gun control. In an <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/america-s-gun-infatuation-threat-supreme-court-could-make-it-n1283362" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MSNBC op-ed,</a> she wrote “America’s infatuation with guns is a national security threat.” She states: “I was one of 30 former national security officials to sign on to an amicus brief arguing that unrestricted access to concealable firearms poses a great threat to public safety.” She ended the piece by claiming, “...like all rights, those described in Second Amendment are not absolute.”

In a TIME article, titled <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20220204035713/https://time.com/6122142/kyle-rittenhouse-verdict/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“The Kyle Rittenhouse Verdict Makes Us All Less Safe,”</a> she poses the question:
“Looking at this case broadly, how can it be that our laws permit a teenager to escape criminal liability after he travels from out of state to a scene of civil unrest, violates a curfew specifically designed to keep people off the streets, and ostentatiously carries with him an assault weapon that results in deadly harm?” 
She goes on to argue that Rittenhouse will become the “poster boy for right-wing extremists and politicians.” She justifies this statement by saying, “Rep. Matt Gaetz has already stated that Rittenhouse would make a good congressional intern.”

She claims the Rittenhouse verdict will “be a larger message to society that we should embrace vigilante justice” and will “promote irresponsible use of assault weapons under the banner of the Second Amendment.” Therefore, she believes the verdict makes everyone “less safe.”

<a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/content/michigan-lsa/wgs/en/people/core-faculty/akirklan.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anna Kirkland</a>, J.D., Ph.D., is the Kim Lane Scheppele Collegiate Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan. She also served as the Director of the Institute for Research on Women and Gender (IRWG) from 2017 to 2022.

Professor Kirkland is very outspoken about her pro-choice beliefs. In response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, she was featured in a <a href="https://news.umich.edu/supreme-court-overturns-roe-v-wade-u-m-experts-available-to-discuss/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">University of Michigan News</a> article titled “Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade: U-M experts available to discuss.”

She stated that “abortion access is about to be dramatically restricted across large swaths of the United States.” She said that people will be forced “to give birth against their will” and that some “will die from pregnancy complications.” She added:
“This is by far the most radical right-wing majority we have ever seen on the Supreme Court, and so I am wondering whether and when they will take further steps like declaring that a fetus is a person, making all abortions illegal no matter what the state would like to do, or removing rights of access to same-sex marriage or contraception.” 
Kirkland has also been outspoken about her beliefs that everyone should get the COVID vaccine. In a Michigan Advance article titled, <a href="https://michiganadvance.com/2021/03/02/how-the-anti-covid-vaccine-movement-mobilized-in-michigan-before-anyone-ever-got-their-first-shot/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“How the anti-COVID vaccine movement mobilized in Michigan before anyone ever got their first shot,”</a> she states:
“I do see some new things [about the anti-vaccine movement], and that is the move from a feminized, mother-focused, natural living focus to this highly masculinized, anti-mask, gun rights mobilization.”
She further argued that the anti-vaccine movement has an “inner core that’s probably realistically unreachable” and is dominated by “overwhelming whiteness” and “fundamentally led by the right-wing.”

<a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/hssp/people/professional---office-staff/lhharris.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Lisa Harris</a> is the F. Wallace and Janet Jeffries Collegiate Professor of Reproductive Health, and Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan. According to <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/post-roe-task-force-launched-by-university-of-michigan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The College Fix</a>, Harris is also the medical director for a regional Planned Parenthood.

Dr. Harris performs late-term abortions in which the baby is brutally dismembered. <a href="https://www.liveaction.org/news/abortionist-lisa-harris-dismembering-sad/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Live Action</a> reports that in an article written for <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18772087/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Reproductive Health Matters</a>, Dr. Harris recounts performing an abortion while pregnant with her own daughter. She writes:
“[I] was more interested than usual in seeing the fetal parts when I was done, since they would so closely resemble those of my own fetus. I went about doing the procedure as usual, removed the laminaria I had placed earlier and confirmed I had adequate dilation. I … picked up my forceps and began to remove the fetus in parts, as I always did. I felt lucky that this one was already in the breech position - it would make grasping small parts (legs and arms) a little easier.” 
“With my first pass of the forceps, I grasped an extremity and began to pull it down. I could see a small foot hanging from the teeth of my forceps. With a quick tug, I separated the leg. Precisely at that moment, I felt a kick - a fluttery “thump, thump” in my own uterus. It was one of the first times I felt fetal movement. There was a leg and foot in my forceps, and a “thump, thump” in my abdomen. Instantly, tears were streaming from my eyes … Doing second trimester abortions did not get easier after my pregnancy; in fact, dealing with little infant parts of my born baby only made dealing with dismembered fetal parts sadder.” 
In a <a href="https://www.liveaction.org/news/abortionist-lisa-harris-dismembering-sad/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video recorded at the National Abortion Federation convention</a>, Dr. Harris was asked a question from a pro-choice activist about pictures of aborted babies. She responded:
“[I] actually think that we should be less about denying the reality of those images. More about acknowledging, that yeah, that’s kind of true. … we might actually both agree that there’s violence in here, ask me why I come to work every day. Let’s just give them all, the violence, it’s a person, killing - let’s just give them all that.” 
In June 2022, the University of Michigan announced the <a href="https://record.umich.edu/articles/university-creates-task-force-to-focus-on-abortion-access/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">creation of a task force to focus on abortion access.</a> Dr. Harris, who will co-chair the group, said in a press release that she is concerned about an increased birthrate in the post-Roe era:
“We can also expect to see an increase in the birthrate in the state - some estimates are as high as a 17% increase - and it is not clear that we or others have capacity to manage a dramatic shift like this.”

<a href="https://medicine.umich.edu/dept/urology/dee-ellen-fenner-md" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Dee Ellen Fenner</a> is the Director of Gynecology, the Director of Surgical Services, and a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Fenner is co-chair of the University of Michigan’s task force on abortion-care access. The goal of the task force is to make “plans to manage in a post-Roe v. Wade environment, by determining how an abortion ban could affect clinical care, educational instruction, student health and more.”

In a <a href="https://record.umich.edu/articles/university-creates-task-force-to-focus-on-abortion-access/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">university press release,</a> Dr. Fenner said:

<a href="https://www.si.umich.edu/people/oliver-haimson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Oliver Haimson</a> is an Assistant Professor of Information at the University of Michigan. According to his university biography, he conducts “social computing research focused on envisioning and designing trans technologies, social media content moderation and marginalized populations, and changing identities on social media during life transitions.”

In 2021, Haimson was the lead author of a study that looked at what types of social media users have “content and accounts removed more frequently than others.” The results showed three types of users have <a href="https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3479610" target="_blank" rel="noopener">content removed more frequently than others</a>: political conservatives, transgender people, and black people. However, Haimson concludes:
“Conservative participants’ removals often involved harmful content removed according to site guidelines to create safe spaces with accurate information, while transgender and Black participants’ removals often involved content related to expressing their marginalized identities that was removed despite following site policies or fell into content moderation gray areas.” 
Haimson was quoted in a November 2022 article titled, <a href="https://www.them.us/story/elon-musk-twitter-right-wing-death-spiral" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“After Two Weeks, Elon Musk’s Twitter Is Already in a Right-Wing Death Spiral.”</a> He alleged conservative users “tend to post more hate speech and misinformation” than other users and claims:
“Trans and queer people face substantial levels of online harassment. In the absence of well-enforced moderation policies that consider the unique challenges that trans people encounter online, harassment is likely to increase and make the site uninhabitable for many trans users.” 
Professor Haimson was also <a href="https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/14680777.2019.1678505" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outspoken on Tumblr’s 2018 decision to ban nudity</a> and “adult” content. He argued Tumblr had been a trans technology because it “allowed erotic content needed for intersectional trans community building.” After Tumblr’s policy change, Haimson stated: “Tumblr’s ban sent a clear signal to trans communities that they were no longer welcome.”

Haimson is also a <a href="https://www.appliedtransstudies.org/about/fellows" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senior Fellow at the Center for Applied Transgender Studies (CATS)</a>, “the leading academic organization dedicated to scholarship on the social, cultural, and political conditions of transgender lives.” According to the <a href="https://www.appliedtransstudies.org/about" target="_blank" rel="noopener">center’s website</a>, their mission is to inform “policy-making and public discourse in ways that improve quality of life for the transgender community.”

<a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/ncid/people/diversity-scholars-directory/apryl-williams.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Apryl Williams</a> is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication &amp; Media and the Digital Studies Institute at the University of Michigan. According to her university profile, her research focuses on “critical algorithm studies and cultural studies of race, gender, popular culture and identity in digital spaces.”

Professor Williams is outspoken about her disdain for white women. In an article for The Guardian titled <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/dec/27/karen-race-white-women-black-americans-racism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“The year of Karen: how a meme changed the way Americans talked about racism,”</a> she wrote: “We as a culture have adopted this stance that white women are more virtuous and not complicit in upholding racism in particular.” She then provides guidelines for how white women can “avoid being a Karen:”
-”Recognize the privilege and history of being a white woman in this society”
-”Avoid calling the police on people of color unless someone is in imminent danger of harm”
-”Understand that it’s just not always about you, period. People are not out to get you for the most part, people are not trying to hurt you or harm your property or make you uncomfortable. You’re not that special, Karen. You’re not that special.” 
Williams authored a paper titled, <a href="https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/2056305120981047" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Black Memes Matter: #LivingWhileBlack With Becky and Karen.”</a> She writes, “The summer of 2020 highlighted the inability to live while Black in the United States.” She adds:
“In this article, I argue that White women engage an extralegal type of patrolling, policing, and surveillance to regulate Black bodies in public spaces and uphold White supremacist notions of law and order.” 
She further argues that white women use “polite and empty apologies … to evade racial guilt and the stigma associated with open racism.”

Williams was also featured in an article for Mic titled <a href="https://www.mic.com/life/are-your-dating-preferences-racist-82343271" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Are your dating preferences racist?”</a> She argues “a lot of our social behaviors are deeply rooted in ideologies about race, even if it’s very implicitly, even if you’re not thinking about it.”

<a href="https://sph.umich.edu/faculty-profiles/lopez-william.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">William Lopez</a> is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the School of Public Health and a Faculty Associate in the Latina/o Studies Program at the University of Michigan.

According to his university profile, he teaches a course titled “Health Impacts of Law Enforcement Violence in the U.S.” This course “focuses on the harms of law enforcement on the individual, family, and community levels and asks what we, as researchers and advocates, can do to address it.”

In November 2021, Lopez and fellow professors Paul Fleming and Daphne Watkins, <a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/ncid/news-events/all-news/antiracism-collaborative/arc-funding-resources/antiracism-precedents-for-action-grant-announcement-2021.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">received a grant</a> from the University of Michigan’s <a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/ncid/antiracism-collaborative.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anti-Racism Collaborative</a>. Their project proposal was titled, “Anti-Racist Action by Cities and Communities to Respond to Racial Police Violence.” They described the project as a “mixed methods study of the implementation of a municipal resolution to develop an unarmed crisis response program to reduce the interactions between armed police and community members.”

Lopez is also a founding member of the <a href="https://www.reenvisionoursafety.org/about.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Coalition for Re-Envisioning Our Safety (CROS)</a>, a “multiracial group” that “care[s] deeply about transformative justice and building care-based safety in our community.” The group says they “fully support a non-police/unarmed response” and claim they have written an “effective proposal” to accomplish this goal.

The <a href="https://truthout.org/articles/police-can-make-a-crisis-worse-the-public-needs-alternatives-in-an-emergency/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">main aspects of the CROS plan</a> include that the:
-”Unarmed response plan program be supported politically and funded by city government”
-”Be separate from law enforcement and the criminal legal system” 
-”Include a public phone number separate from 911” 
Speaking on behalf of CROS, Lopez told <a href="https://www.wxyz.com/news/7-in-depth/michigan-coalition-aims-to-provide-community-led-non-police-response-to-public-safety-concerns" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WXYZ</a>:
“When a gun is present, there’s always the capacity for it to escalate to violence. And no matter how much you want to reduce the odds that might happen, it is still possible when that gun is there and not possible when it is not.” 
Lopez has also spoken out about the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. In an article for <a href="https://news.umich.edu/supreme-court-overturns-roe-v-wade-u-m-experts-available-to-discuss/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michigan News</a>, Lopez states:
“Public health research is clear that access to abortion is part of a full suite of reproductive health care. Eliminating abortion access will increase cycles of poverty, criminalize pregnancy, and unquestionably lead to maternal mortality. As is the case with all regressive health care policies, the burden of morbidity and mortality will be born most heavily by people of color.”

<a href="https://fordschool.umich.edu/faculty/shobita-parthasarathy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Shobita Parthasarathy</a> is a Professor of Public Policy and Director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program at the University of Michigan.

In September 2021, the Texas Heartbeat Bill took effect, banning abortion once a heartbeat is detected. In a <a href="https://news.umich.edu/texas-near-total-abortion-ban-u-m-experts-can-discuss/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michigan News</a> article, Parathasarathy was outspoken about her pro-choice beliefs, stating:
“The Supreme Court’s recent decision on abortion is likely to exacerbate inequalities at a time when we are supposed to be trying to enhance equity in our public policymaking.” 
She continued:
“With this law, more privileged women will still be able to access abortions by traveling out of state, while those without the means will likely be forced to have children. They will also have to bear the psychological and financial burdens of this, and so, too, will their families and succeeding generations.” 
Parthasarathy believes banning abortions after six weeks is “likely to entrench poverty and inequality.”

In November 2022, the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy announced that Parthasarathy would be <a href="https://fordschool.umich.edu/news/2022/u-m-online-course-centers-equity-and-justice-technology-policy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">teaching a new course she created, titled “Justice and Equity in Technology Policy.”</a> This course will study “how injustices can become embedded in technology and associated policies” because “technologies reflect and reinforce social biases towards women, people of color, disabled people, and other marginalized communities.”

Parthasarathy commented:
“Technology and technology policy have crucial roles to play in making the world equitable and just. But to achieve this, we need new generations of technologists, policymakers, and civil society advocates who understand technology in a nuanced way and know where and how to produce change.”

She is Editor-in-Chief of <a href="https://womensmidlifehealthjournal.biomedcentral.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Women’s Midlife Health</a> and Director of the <a href="https://midlifescience.umich.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center for Midlife Science</a>.

Professor Harlow is  outspoken about her pro-choice beliefs. After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Harlow was quoted in a <a href="https://news.umich.edu/supreme-court-overturns-roe-v-wade-u-m-experts-available-to-discuss/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michigan News</a> article:
“The Supreme Court decision reflects a woeful misrepresentation of history and disregard for the context of many women’s lives.” 
She claims:
“Recent laws banning abortion place in danger the health and lives of women who miscarry and are without access to safe abortion. These laws will lead to an increase in maternal morbidity and mortality, they will not stop abortion.” 
Harlow believes that <a href="https://news.umich.edu/25-years-of-research-shows-insidious-effect-of-racism-on-black-womens-menopausal-transition-health/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">structural racism explains the health disparities</a> between black and white women. She led a study that looked at 25 years of research from the Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation (SWAN) and compared menopausal transitions for black women and white women. She writes:
“Our analysis suggests that the enduring influence of structural racism - differential access to the goods, services and opportunities of society by race - is a major contributor to the health disparities between Black and white women in the midlife.” 
Harlow says it’s “clear that discrimination and structural racism play an important role in health broadly but getting the full story is difficult.” She claims that black women have harder experiences with menopause and attributes it to:
“...greater probability of hot flashes but less probability of treatment for hot flashes, greater risk of hypertension but less treatment for hypertension, greater risk of depression but less treatment for depression.”

<a href="https://seas.umich.edu/research/faculty/jonathan-t-overpeck-phd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jonathan Overpeck</a> is the William B. Stapp Collegiate Professor of Environmental Education and Samuel A. Graham Dean of the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan.

According to his university biography, Overpeck has published over 220 papers on climate and the environmental sciences. He served as a lead author for the 2007 and the 2010-2014 climate assessments published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

In an op-ed for <a href="https://thehill.com/opinion/energy-environment/596066-a-shift-to-clean-energy-would-halt-russias-petro-thuggery-and-more/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hill</a>, he wrote, “Fossil fuels are the main cause of climate change and increased climate hazards.” He claims:
“We know this with high confidence: Eliminating fossil fuels from all we do is the most important step toward halting climate change.” 
Overpeck serves on Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s <a href="https://www.michigan.gov/whitmer/appointments/oma/all/1/council-on-climate-solutions#:~:text=The%20Council%20on%20Climate%20Solutions,%2C%20Great%20Lakes%2C%20and%20Energy." target="_blank" rel="noopener">Council on Climate Solutions</a>. The council acts in an advisory capacity to the governor and is in charge of formulating and overseeing the implementation of the <a href="https://www.michigan.gov/egle/about/organization/climate-and-energy/mi-healthy-climate-plan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MI Healthy Climate Plan</a>.

According to <a href="https://michiganadvance.com/2022/11/23/as-cop27-falls-short-u-s-policies-position-michigan-to-meet-healthy-climate-goals-expert-says/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michigan Advance</a>, the plan “calls for achieving economy-wide carbon neutrality in the state, reducing Michigan’s greenhouse gas emissions to zero by no later than 2050.” Overpeck says the plan is the “<a href="https://www.michiganbusiness.org/news/2022/12/climate-stability-and-policies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">aggressive climate action needed</a> to stave off climate change disaster in Michigan.”

Overpeck has described climate change as the “<a href="https://record.umich.edu/articles/climate-change-and-michigan-challenges-and-opportunities/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defining global problem of the 21st century</a>.” He was quoted in an Associated Press article titled, “<a href="https://apnews.com/article/science-business-congress-climate-and-environment-government-politics-8357e7d993b5e1a1144eb2643b786a33" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Republicans tout benefits of fossil fuels at climate talks</a>.” He stated:
“To solve the climate crisis we have to stop emitting carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere. The production and use of natural gas does both, so we have to stop using natural gas as soon as we can.”

Pasek was quoted in a Michigan News article titled, “<a href="https://news.umich.edu/supreme-court-overturns-roe-v-wade-u-m-experts-available-to-discuss/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade: U-M experts available to discuss</a>.” He said the decision is likely to put “Republican legislatures in conflict with the majority of Americans, who generally think abortion is a complicated issue and should be legal under at least some circumstances.”

He adds there’s a “growing perception that the courts are partisan actors” and “one major effect of the decision will be a loss of perceived governmental legitimacy at both the state and federal levels.”

Professor Pasek was featured in an October 2022 article titled, “<a href="https://beltmag.com/henry-ford-donald-trump-and-mass-marketing-bigotry/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Henry Ford, Donald Trump, and Mass Marketing Bigotry</a>.” The author of the article writes that Ford and Trump are “two self-involved sore losers, both inclined to find scapegoats for America’s problems, neither inclined to take responsibility for their own words and deeds.” Pasek adds to this by saying:
“There is and has long been a virulently racist and xenophobic element to American electorate. Ford wanted to tap into that. It is clear to me Trump has found leverage in the same forces.” 
In June 2021, Pasek signed a “statement of concern” titled <a href="https://www.newamerica.org/political-reform/statements/statement-of-concern/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“The Threats to American Democracy and the Need for National Voting and Election Administration Standards.”</a> The letter was circulated by New America, a liberal think tank, and signed by professors from across the country. The statement says:
“State legislatures have advanced initiatives that curtail voting methods now preferred by Democratic-leaning constituencies, such as early voting and mail voting. Republican lawmakers have openly talked about ensuring the “purity” and “quality” of the vote, echoing arguments widely used across the Jim Crow South as reasons for restricting the Black vote.” 
The letter acknowledges it is “always far better for major democracy reforms to be bipartisan,” but argues that in the “current hyper-polarized political context such broad bipartisan support is sadly lacking.” The statement ends with a call to action:
“We urge members of Congress to do whatever is necessary - including suspending the filibuster - in order to pass national voting and election administration standards that both guarantee the vote to all Americans equally, and prevent state legislatures from manipulating the rules in order to manufacture the result they want.”

<a href="https://fordschool.umich.edu/faculty/dominique-adams-santos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dominique Adams-Santos</a> is the Associate Director of the Center for Racial Justice and Associate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan.

The <a href="https://racialjustice.umich.edu/about" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center for Racial Justice</a> “aims to foster deep relationships between research and advocacy to uncover the voices of the unjustly silenced, challenge us to live up to our democratic ideals, and offer sound policy prescriptions for a more equitable and just society.”

As part of her work with the center, Adams-Santos co-teaches a fall speaker series titled “<a href="https://racialjustice.umich.edu/programs-events/racial-foundations-public-policy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Racial Foundations of Public Policy</a>.” This series is open to everyone and “focuses on the historical roots and impact of race in shaping public policy as both a disciplinary field and as a course of action.”

According to her university profile, Adams-Santos’ research focuses on “questions of sexuality, intimacy, and belonging in the digital era.” Specifically, she is interested in “how individuals navigate the racial, gender, and sexual politics of digital and urban landscapes in their search for intimacy and community.”

Adams-Santos wrote a paper titled, “<a href="https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/1363460720902720" target="_blank" rel="noopener">‘Something a bit more personal’: Digital storytelling and intimacy among queer Black women</a>.” In her work, she describes the importance of coming-out stories but claims “much of the extant literature on coming-out stories examines narratives by white, middle-class gay men and lesbians.”

She believes that “critical inquiry into coming-out stories told by privileged and queer subjects points to the formulaic and normative characteristics of their narratives, where sexual difference is downplayed or challenged.”

Her paper looks at whether queer black women “conform to or depart from the ‘coming-out formula story.’” She argues that queer black women “complicate the coming-out formula” with their use of “intimate candor - the performative and discursive strategy of publicly revealing interior, often sexually explicit, aspects of the self.”

Adams-Santos is also a Postdoctoral Fellow with the <a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/ncid/antiracism-collaborative.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anti-Racism Collaborative</a> at the University of Michigan’s National Center for Institutional Diversity. The collaborative is part of the provost’s Anti-Racism Initiative. One aspect of this initiative is a “faculty cluster hiring program that prioritizes scholarly expertise on racism - at systemic, institutional, and/or interpersonal levels.”

<a href="https://ssw.umich.edu/faculty/profiles/tenure-track/curetona" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ashley Cureton</a> is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work and the School of Education at the University of Michigan. According to her university profile, Cureton’s research “explores the educational and mental health needs and outcomes of refugee and migrant children and youth and their families.” 

In November 2021, Cureton received a grant <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/university-of-michigan-professor-receives-anti-racism-grant-to-study-algorithmic-reparations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">from the University of Michigan’s Anti-Racism Collaborative</a> located at the National Center for Institutional Diversity. The <a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/ncid/antiracism-collaborative.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anti-Racism Collaborative</a> was “created to facilitate University of Michigan community engagement around research and scholarship focused on racial inequality, racial justice, and anti-racist praxis.” 

The collaborative <a href="https://record.umich.edu/articles/collaboratives-grants-advance-anti-racism-research-scholarship/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">awarded nearly $111,000 in grant money</a> to proposals that focused on “marginalized, grassroots and collaborative forms of anti-racist action with the potential to transform resistance to structural racism.” Cureton’s project is titled, “More Allies Than Adversaries: An Exploratory Qualitative Study on Allyship and Racial Solidarity between Latinx Immigrant and Black Youth in Baltimore.” 

Cureton’s project will include “[p]ushing back on anti-Black racism that permeates Latinx communities and drawing on an intersectionality framework.” Her <a href="https://lsa.umich.edu/ncid/news-events/all-news/antiracism-collaborative/arc-funding-resources/antiracism-precedents-for-action-grant-announcement-2021.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">proposal description states:</a> 
“Moreover, this study explores the possibility of existing or potential solidarity and allyship between these two marginalized groups as a mechanism to develop collaborative forms of anti-racist action.”

<a href="https://sllc.umd.edu/directory/jose-magro" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jose L. Magro</a> is a Lecturer at the School of Languages, Literatures, &amp; Cultures at the University of Maryland. His research interests are listed as applied linguistics and critical race theory.  
In an interview with, <a href="https://dbknews.com/2022/11/21/umd-spanish-professors-add-anti-racism-curriculum/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Diamondback</a>, Margo explained that he incorporates anti-racism into his curriculum. He stated this is part of an attempt to put an end to the “colonized learning” that takes place at the university. 
His comments were delivered following a presentation titled, “<a href="https://arhu.umd.edu/events/antiracist-pedagogy-spanish-language-teaching-theory-practice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Antiracist Pedagogy for Spanish Language Teaching: From Theory to Practice</a>,” which featured six Spanish and Portuguese teachers and the anti-racist materials from their classrooms. 
A fellow professor, <a href="https://www.professorwatchlist.org/professor/tatianachimiranda" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tatiana Chi-Miranda</a>, admitted that although her Spanish language classes focus on grammar and composition, the modules are used to discuss racism and phobias: 
“[This] is a great introduction for the anti-racism module because it allows one to establish a personal connection to the text, but also it allows them to get a critical approach to it. And it opens doors for them to have a critical attitude and cultural approach to it,” 
A sophomore interviewed by the paper praised the initiative, stating that American schools have a “whitewashed curriculum:” 
“I think that’s really important because America has a tendency to leave out certain parts of history in their textbooks and teach a very whitewashed curriculum, so it is really important that Maryland and these professors are acknowledging that we have kind of neglected several important parts of history.”

<a href="http://wmst.umd.edu/people/core-faculty/ashwini-tambe">Dr. Ashwini Tambe</a> is an Associate Professor of Women’s Studies at the University of Maryland. Dr. Tambe has made a number of outrageous claims on Twitter about economics and feminism. Recently she called for “men control” in addition to gun control.

<a href="http://www.medschool.umaryland.edu/profiles/Younus-Faheem/">Dr. Faheem Younus</a> is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Maryland. Dr. Younus became infamous for his comments on social media regarding the Charleston shooting. He blamed the shooting on former sniper Chris Kyle as well as Fox News, for creating a 'culture' that encourages mass shooting.

<a href="https://merrill.umd.edu/directory/deneen-brown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DeNeen Brown</a> is an Associate Professor of Journalism at the University of Maryland who has vowed to leave America over systemic racism and oppression.

In a Washington Post op-ed—titled, “<a href="https://archive.ph/Kxlhi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Case for Leaving America to Escape Racism</a>”—Dr. Brown reveals that she grew up in the black power movement as she “never really felt at home in America." She then recounts an alleged racial incident in elementary school in which she describes her white classmates as “oppressors” and vows never to internalize their racism.

This would later inspire her work as a journalist to document racism and Black people whom she claims still suffer under “economic, political, and cultural oppression.” This is reflected in another article in which Dr. Brown alleges that <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/08/08/modern-day-mississippi-lynchings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">racially-motivated lynchings are a regular occurrence, but provides no evidence to verify her claims</a>.

Dr. Brown explains she began looking for a new place to live abroad after state legislators across the county banned teaching critical race theory in schools. Further citing her concern over the eruption of “racist terror” embodied by January 6th “insurrectionists,” Dr. Brown expresses a desire to live in a country without “entrenched racism” where she has the freedom “to move among people who look like me.”

Dr. Brown further expresses a desire to live in a place where she will not have to discuss her nation’s racism. In a previous Washington Post op-ed, she lamented how<a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/06/17/black-people-are-tired-trying-explain-racism/?itid=ap_deneenl.brown" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> black people at large are “exhausted” over explaining racism to white people</a>. In separate tweets, she further explains the burden of racism must be placed at the feet of white society and urges others to study radicals like Che Guevara to learn how to do so.

The Marxist revolutionary is known for installing the <a href="https://www.humanprogress.org/the-truth-about-che-guevara-racist-homophobe-and-mass-murderer/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">60-year dictatorship in Cuba</a> and for his bigoted statements, such as: “<a href="https://www.heritage.org/political-process/commentary/el-che-the-crass-marketing-sadistic-racist" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The negro is indolent and lazy, and spends his money on frivolities, whereas the European is forward-looking, organized and intelligent.</a>"

Comparing her fight against racism to “punching a brick wall,” she concludes that it’s far easier to leave the country entirely, as she can no longer stand being a black person walking through “white institutions.”

A sophomore who was interviewed by Diamondback  praised the initiative, stating that American schools have a “whitewashed curriculum:” 

“I think that’s really important because America has a tendency to leave out certain parts of history in their textbooks and teach a very whitewashed curriculum, so it is really important that Maryland and these professors are acknowledging that we have kind of neglected several important parts of history.”

Chi-Miranda’s comments were delivered in an article featuring six Spanish professors who also integrated anti-racist themes into their courses. One professor, Jose Magro, stated this is part of an attempt to put an end to the “colonized learning” that takes place at the university.

<a href="https://www.arlis.umd.edu/caroline-orr" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Caroline Orr</a> is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security at the University of Maryland. According to her university profile, Orr studies misinformation, and disinformation, and how each contributes to “online extremism.”

Orr attributes most domestic violence and radicalization to the political right. On her personal <a href="https://twitter.com/RVAwonk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter account</a>, she claims the memes posted by these groups to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

In a substack article titled, “<a href="https://weaponizedspaces.substack.com/p/violent-extremism-in-america-is-a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Violent extremism in America is a far-right phenomenon</a>,” she writes that attacks by right-wing groups are “surging” and outpace left-wing and Islamist violence. Orr further claims that any who suggest otherwise are attempting to distract from the burgeoning connections between extremists and mainstream conservative groups:  

“Violent extremism is overwhelmingly a problem of far-right extremism, not far-left extremism, and it doesn’t help anyone to misrepresent the threat by turning it into a “both sides” issue when the sides are not even close to equal.”

Elsewhere, not only does Orr dismiss the existence of left-wing violence, she attempts to excuse it. In a separate article, titled “<a href="https://medium.com/arc-digital/in-defense-of-antifa-62c699d86dc5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In Defense of Antifa</a>,” she condemns conservatives for attempting to “vilify” the group:

“It’s easy to see why far-right extremists have worked so hard to vilify antifascists, who represent the most consistent opponents of far-right extremism and the most steadfast allies of those targeted by far-right violence.”

At first, Orr denies the existence of Antifa in her article, describing the group only as a “collection of tactics and philosophies.” She then pivots and praises Antifa for their “quieter activities” such as “research, monitoring, and surveillance of far-right extremist groups, community organizing, and advocating for historically marginalized populations.” Orr claims this is needed to stop “white supremacist” groups from organizing. 

Writing that activists must be intolerant of violent or bigoted speech, Orr claims that direct action is necessary to prevent the far-right from organizing. Comparing Antifa to Jews who resisted Nazi occupation, Orr argues that when violence from Antifa occurs, it's committed in the name of “self-defense:” 

“...consider the possibility that some violence is a regrettable but unavoidable part of preventing much greater violence by fascists.”

The Professor Watchlist team reached out to Orr for comment prior to publication. Instead of responding, Orr posted the inquiry on her personal Twitter account and accused the author of committing libel.

<a href="https://scholarworks.brandeis.edu/esploro/profile/anita_hannig/overview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anita Hannig</a> is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Brandeis University. She teaches courses in the departments of Anthropology, Health, Science, Society, and Policy, as well as Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies.
Hannig’s faculty profile says she specializes in “socio-cultural and medical anthropology; anthropology of death and dying; anthropology of religion, gender and the body; and medical assistance in dying.” In 2015, she “launched a long-term, ethnographic research project on medical aid-in-dying in the United States. This project asked how assisted dying is transforming the ways Americans die.”
On July 6, 2022, Hannig wrote an op-ed titled “‘<a href="https://www.brandeis.edu/now/2022/july/assisted-dying-hannig.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Assisted suicide’ deserves a different name. Here’s why</a>” in which she offers expert insight into an emerging industry that allows physicians to kill patients legally. In the article, Hannig cited a statistic that says “more than 20% of Americans already live in a state with access to medically assisted death.”
Hannig continued,
“Despite this rapidly changing legal climate, the language for describing this new way to die remains surprisingly antiquated. The term that continues to dominate media coverage on the issue is ‘assisted suicide.’ The American Medical Associate uses the term ‘physician-assisted suicide.’”
“As a cultural anthropologist, I know that how we name something determines how we think about it. Until just recently, the primary term in the English language for the purposeful, voluntary death of oneself was ‘suicide.’ Besides martyrdom or sacrifice, there was no other way to refer to an intentional self-death.”
“Assisted suicide” is not a new way to die, as Hannig claimed. In 2011, a notorious suicide physician named Dr. Jack Kevorkian passed away. During his 50 years of medical practice, Kevorkian — known as “Dr. Death” — killed more than 100 terminally-ill patients and was eventually convicted of second-degree murder. Britannica says, he lobbied for medical experiments on death-row inmates and advocated for establishing suicide clinics.
In her book “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Day-Die-Untold-Assisted-America/dp/1728244919/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1EBE8BKOSTN2L&amp;keywords=the+day+i+die+anita+hannig&amp;qid=1670948560&amp;sprefix=the+day+i+die%2Caps%2C132&amp;sr=8-1&amp;asin=1728244919&amp;revisionId=&amp;format=4&amp;depth=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Day I Die</a>,” Hannig includes a Q &amp; A in the About the Author section. When asked how she became involved in assisted suicides, she said, “I actually fell into this subject by accident. I was showing How to Die in Oregon (the best documentary on assisted dying, I think) in one of my anthropology classes at Brandeis, and I became immediately hooked.” 
Hannig’s book also provides assisted suicide websites that help facilitate conversations and offers tools to assist patients and families plan for premature death.

<a href="http://www.brandeis.edu/facultyguide/person.html?emplid=ab457d288c632f1a02cc93401ab15946ca2e2dbb">Dr. Donald Hindley</a>, a Political Science Professor Emeritus at Brandeis University, quit after being triggered by the alleged abundance of conservatives at the school. He said, “I just could not tolerate anymore,” the conservative-direction the political science department had taken, referring subtly to the pro-Israel stance of the university.

Dr. <a href="https://www.brandeis.edu/gsas/admissions/contact.html">Kate Slater</a> is the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at Brandeis University. On her personal website, Dr. Slater <a href="https://kateaslater.com/about">describes herself as a “white anti-racist scholar and educator.</a>” In this capacity, Dr. Slater writes that she studies how “white racial identity formation and how racism operates individually, organizationally, and systemically.”

In a now-highly-publicized post on her private Instagram page—obtained by The College Fix—Dr. Slater launched into a<a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/brandeis-university-dean-yes-all-white-people-are-racist/"> racially inflammatory attack on white people and defended the teaching of Critical Race Theory</a>. Writing that, “all white people are racist,” she claims that American society conditions white people—including herself—to be racist, which justifies the need for critical theory in education.

Critical Theory, or Critical Race Theory, is an <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2012/03/11/what-is-critical-race-theory/">intellectual branch of Marxism that alleges American society and all of its founding institutions are infected with and perpetuate white supremacy</a>. Furthermore, proponents of Critical Race Theory believe that people should take proactive steps to dismantle these institutions in the name of equity, which is also referred to as being “anti-racist.”

Dr. Slater’s website also <a href="https://kateaslater.com/trainings">offers anti-racism training and courses on Critical Race Theory for universities and K-12 institutions</a>. On the promotional page for one such lecture titled 4 Steps to Begin an Antiracist Education—<a href="https://www.unh.edu/unhtoday/2020/07/world-shaped-race">sponsored and promoted by the University of New Hampshire</a>—skin color is described as the determining factor for how successful one's life will be.

In the lecture itself, Dr. Slater states that an antiracist worldview begins with the understanding that a <a href="https://media.unh.edu/media/In-Depth+on+InclusionA+4+Steps+to+Begin+An+Anti-Racist+Education/1_8lg7eccx">white person is never NOT racist in American society</a>. She further divides individuals into two categories: Those with a racist worldview, and those who take antiracist actions.

Dr. Slater urges her white students to personally engage in antiracism throughout the lecture. She even encourages a teacher who was present at the lecture to discuss her stances on antiracism with her own students. At one point, Dr. Slater states that all white people are the “oppressors” and therefore cannot have opinions about racism.

Chaudhry’s profile says she is “a cultural anthropologist whose work focuses on gender, race, sexuality, and class in the United States.” 

Chaudhry identifies with the trans community and prefers the pronouns “they/he.” She is listed as a <a href="https://www.appliedtransstudies.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senior and Distinguished Fellow of CATS</a> (The Center for Applied Transgender Studies). In August 2021, Chaudhry was featured in a <a href="https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2021/aug/11/remove-male-and-female-from-birth-certificates-her/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Spokesman-Review article</a> titled “Remove ‘male’ and ‘female’ from birth certificates? Here’s why [the] nation’s largest group of physicians recommends it.” The column discusses the American Medical Association’s [AMA] efforts to remove binary gender designation from identification documents. 

Citing a June report, Spokesman-Review said, “The AMA’s LGBTQ+ advisory committee advised the organization to push for removing sex labels from the public part of the birth certificate…But some [LGBTQ+ advocates] cautioned against celebrating the news too soon.”

Chaudhry stated, “People are still really committed to a binary sex model…The recommendation may say sex is not important for something like a birth certificate, but if people are still committed to a binary sex model, they find other ways to determine those things.”

Later that year, Chaudhry participated in <a href="https://www.brandeis.edu/arts-sciences/core/critical-conversations/2021-22/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Brandeis Core</a> — a panel discussion for “community” and “critical conversations.” The discussion titled “<a href="https://www.brandeis.edu/arts-sciences/core/critical-conversations/2021-22/videos.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The ‘Ins’ and ‘Outs’ of LGBTQ+ Community</a>” focused on “the limits and possibilities for [the] queer and transgender community on a global scale, particularly how gender, race, class and nation complicate what community can and does mean.”

<a href="https://www.brandeis.edu/english/faculty/callender.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brandon Callender</a> is an Assistant Professor of English at Brandeis University. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Brandon prefers the pronouns he/him/his. His research interests include 19th and 20th Century American Literature, African American Literature, and Gender and Sexuality Studies.

Callender’s list of courses taught includes ENG 15B — Black Joy. The description says the course “explores the exuberant and sometimes strained relationship between black people and joy.” His course EN 175B — Getting Behind in Black Gay Men’s Literatures is a study of “black queer men’s sexualities…[including] varying attitudes black queer writers have toward cruising and intimacy [and] falling behind at work or in life, because of certain sexual pursuits.”

In 2022, Callender <a href="https://read.dukeupress.edu/qui-parle/article/31/1/67/314953/The-Devil-Finds-UseBlack-Queers-Do-The-Exorcist?guestAccessKey=cad74655-0591-48e0-b1a5-8566a7481c26" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published an article</a> titled “The Devil Finds Use: Black Queers Do The Exorcist.” The piece explores a critique of The Exorcist (1973 film) in James Baldwin's essay “The Devil Finds Work.” In the abstract, Callender says,

“Much of black horror studies today is premised on the assumption that true horror, for the black audience, is found not in the paranormal but in the normal and the systemic. It is now conventional, for instance, for scholars to preface their research with a personal anecdote that swaps out a supernatural on-screen threat for a more pressing — and more horrifying — social one.”

He continued,

“By swapping out superficial horrors for social ones, black subjects today enter into the horror genre as its rivals, if not its foils. Instead of reeling from horror’s intended ‘dreadful pleasures,’ they experience a horror that arises more traumatically, more personally, and more incidentally as a result of their racial consciousness.”

The Brandeis Department of English <a href="https://www.brandeis.edu/english/faculty/podcast/callender-podcast.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published a two-part podcast</a> with Callender as a special guest. The host asked Callender, “[W]hat were you like as a high schooler?” Callender said,

“My high school experience was largely spent, I think, trying to figure out who I was…There was a lot of racism that was pretty worn on the surface of our school…I have a deep difficulty rethinking what those years meant to me, because the same teacher who deeply inspired and moved me did not teach me anything about my experience as a black person, or as a queer person. That was not part of his agenda, his curriculum.”

<a href="https://scholarworks.brandeis.edu/esploro/profile/anita_hannig/overview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anita Hannig</a> is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Brandeis University. She teaches courses in the departments of Anthropology, Health, Science, Society, and Policy, as well as Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies.

Hannig’s faculty profile says she specializes in “socio-cultural and medical anthropology; anthropology of death and dying; anthropology of religion, gender and the body; and medical assistance in dying.” In 2015, she “launched a long-term, ethnographic research project on medical aid-in-dying in the United States. This project asked how assisted dying is transforming the ways Americans die.”

On July 6, 2022, Hannig wrote an op-ed titled “‘<a href="https://www.brandeis.edu/now/2022/july/assisted-dying-hannig.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Assisted suicide’ deserves a different name. Here’s why</a>” in which she offers expert insight into an emerging industry that allows physicians to kill patients legally. In the article, Hannig cited a statistic that says “more than 20% of Americans already live in a state with access to medically assisted death.”

Hannig continued,

“Despite this rapidly changing legal climate, the language for describing this new way to die remains surprisingly antiquated. The term that continues to dominate media coverage on the issue is ‘assisted suicide.’ The American Medical Associate uses the term ‘physician-assisted suicide.’”

“As a cultural anthropologist, I know that how we name something determines how we think about it. Until just recently, the primary term in the English language for the purposeful, voluntary death of oneself was ‘suicide.’ Besides martyrdom or sacrifice, there was no other way to refer to an intentional self-death.”

“Assisted suicide” is not a new way to die, as Hannig claimed. In 2011, a notorious suicide physician named Dr. Jack Kevorkian passed away. During his 50 years of medical practice, Kevorkian — known as “Dr. Death” — killed more than 100 terminally-ill patients and was eventually convicted of second-degree murder. Britannica says, he lobbied for medical experiments on death-row inmates and advocated for establishing suicide clinics.

In her book “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Day-Die-Untold-Assisted-America/dp/1728244919/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1EBE8BKOSTN2L&amp;keywords=the+day+i+die+anita+hannig&amp;qid=1670948560&amp;sprefix=the+day+i+die%2Caps%2C132&amp;sr=8-1&amp;asin=1728244919&amp;revisionId=&amp;format=4&amp;depth=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Day I Die</a>,” Hannig includes a Q &amp; A in the About the Author section. When asked how she became involved in assisted suicides, she said, “I actually fell into this subject by accident. I was showing How to Die in Oregon (the best documentary on assisted dying, I think) in one of my anthropology classes at Brandeis, and I became immediately hooked.” 

Hannig’s book also provides assisted suicide websites that help facilitate conversations and offers tools to assist patients and families plan for premature death.

And while this can be a time of stress for us in the United States, for many people in poorer countries, it’s almost like a death sentence.”

The book—which depicts America as a society founded on slavery and genocide and the aftermath of both reverberating to the present day—<a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/02/08/debunking-left-wing-historian-howard-zinn-is-like-shooting-fish-in-a-barrel/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">has been lambasted for its slanted and inaccurate portrayal of American society</a>.

Dr. Au creates, writes, and helps distribute materials and lesson plans to teachers on behalf of the Zinn Education Project. Many of these resources direct teachers to introduce far-left topics and racially-laden curriculum into the classroom. Several documents produced by Dr. Au include lesson plans that <a href="https://www.zinnedproject.org/materials/black-panthers-ten-point-program/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">extol the Marxist Black Panther Party</a>, manuals on educating students about “<a href="https://www.zinnedproject.org/materials/teachers-vs-climate-change-teachers-work-for-climate-justice-portland" target="_blank" rel="noopener">climate justice,”</a> and teaching “<a href="https://www.zinnedproject.org/materials/rethinking-multicultural-education/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">racial and cultural justice</a>.”
A paper co-edited by Dr. Au is titled, “<a href="https://www.zinnedproject.org/materials/teaching-black-lives/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Teaching for Black Lives</a>.” The document is over 300 pages long and consists of lesson plans on the Black Lives Matter movement, Black Liberation, and “teaching blackness.” According to a summary listed on the official site, the guide is to be used for educators to make their classrooms sites of “resistance” to “white supremacy and anti-blackness.”
According to a <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/09/16/study-up-to-95-percent-of-2020-u-s-riots-are-linked-to-black-lives-matter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study conducted by the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED)</a>, BLM can be linked to 95% of the riots around the country–notably in Summer 2020 following the death of George Floyd. In an analysis of the study, <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/09/16/study-up-to-95-percent-of-2020-u-s-riots-are-linked-to-black-lives-matter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Federalist</a> found, “of the 633 incidents coded as riots, 88 percent are recorded as involving Black Lives Matter Activists.” The resulting riots were the largest in American history, <a href="https://fee.org/articles/george-floyd-riots-caused-record-setting-2-billion-in-damage-new-report-says-here-s-why-the-true-cost-is-even-higher/#:~:text=Only%20now%20are%20we%20beginning,%241%20billion%20to%20%242%20billion." target="_blank" rel="noopener">causing an estimated $2 billion in damages and 47 deaths.</a>
Dr. Au is the author of a separate book titled, “<a href="https://www.haymarketbooks.org/books/1153-a-marxist-education" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A Marxist Education.</a>” In it, he states his intention to <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=10969" target="_blank" rel="noopener">assist teachers in resisting “capitalism” and the “patriarchy” in their respective classrooms</a>.
In an interview for The Progressive about the book, Dr. Au <a href="https://progressive.org/latest/deeper-critical-consciousness-in-education-Wayne-Au/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">urges teachers to be “anti-racist” and urges them to use their positions to fight “settler colonialism.</a>”

Several documents produced by Dr. Au include lesson plans that <a href="https://www.zinnedproject.org/materials/black-panthers-ten-point-program/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">extol the Marxist Black Panther Party</a>, manuals on educating students about “<a href="https://www.zinnedproject.org/materials/teachers-vs-climate-change-teachers-work-for-climate-justice-portland" target="_blank" rel="noopener">climate justice,”</a> and teaching “<a href="https://www.zinnedproject.org/materials/rethinking-multicultural-education/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">racial and cultural justice</a>.”

A paper co-edited by Dr. Au is titled, “<a href="https://www.zinnedproject.org/materials/teaching-black-lives/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Teaching for Black Lives</a>.” The document is over 300 pages long and consists of lesson plans on the Black Lives Matter movement, Black Liberation, and “teaching blackness.” According to a summary listed on the official site, the guide is to be used for educators to make their classrooms sites of “resistance” to “white supremacy and anti-blackness.”

According to a <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/09/16/study-up-to-95-percent-of-2020-u-s-riots-are-linked-to-black-lives-matter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study conducted by the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED)</a>, BLM can be linked to 95% of the riots around the country–notably in Summer 2020 following the death of George Floyd. In an analysis of the study, <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/09/16/study-up-to-95-percent-of-2020-u-s-riots-are-linked-to-black-lives-matter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Federalist</a> found, “of the 633 incidents coded as riots, 88 percent are recorded as involving Black Lives Matter Activists.” The resulting riots were the largest in American history, <a href="https://fee.org/articles/george-floyd-riots-caused-record-setting-2-billion-in-damage-new-report-says-here-s-why-the-true-cost-is-even-higher/#:~:text=Only%20now%20are%20we%20beginning,%241%20billion%20to%20%242%20billion." target="_blank" rel="noopener">causing an estimated $2 billion in damages and 47 deaths.</a>

Dr. Au is the author of a separate book titled, “<a href="https://www.haymarketbooks.org/books/1153-a-marxist-education" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A Marxist Education.</a>” In it, he states his intention to <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=10969" target="_blank" rel="noopener">assist teachers in resisting “capitalism” and the “patriarchy” in their respective classrooms</a>.

In an interview for The Progressive about the book, Dr. Au <a href="https://progressive.org/latest/deeper-critical-consciousness-in-education-Wayne-Au/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">urges teachers to be “anti-racist” and urges them to use their positions to fight “settler colonialism.</a>”

<a href="https://www.uwb.edu/ias/faculty-and-staff/julie-shayne" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Julie Shayne</a> is an Adjunct Teaching Professor of Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies at the University of Washington Bothell.
Shayne authored a 2020 article for Ms. Magazine titled, “<a href="https://msmagazine.com/2020/11/16/79-million-nos-mean-no-trump-rape-sexual-assault/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">80 Million No’s Mean No</a>.” In this piece, she states, “Trump’s fabricated narrative that this election was stolen from him is strikingly similar to a rapist’s upside down view that no means yes.”
She adds, “For me, the anxiety the prospect of his re-election caused took many physical forms, including nausea that felt like a razor in my stomach which made it impossible to eat.” According to Shayne, “my fourteen-year old son observed before the election was over, Trump needed to lose so I could purge him from my body: He was clearly a bacteria preventing me from eating.”
She also claims that Trump&#8217;s election to president in the first place is a “massive global metaphor for rape culture.” According to the professor, “I cried myself to sleep the Saturday before the election. I could not stop thinking about the prospect of having a man with a decades-long record of women and girls accusing him of sexual assault—including rape—re-elected president.” She believes that Trump will not be able to dodge accountability once he is out of office and hints at damning evidence of Trump&#8217;s record of sexual violence.
