Thomas K. Hubbard was the James R. Dougherty Jr. Centennial Professor of Classics, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20190905194331/https://minio.la.utexas.edu/colaweb-prod/person_files/0/354/thomas_k_hubbard_curriculum_vitae.pdf">who taught at the University of Texas-Austin from 1988 t0 2021</a>. Hubbard’s body of research included ancient pederasty – adult male sexual relations with underage boys  – which Hubbard calls the “<a href="https://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/2019/12/17/ut-students-protest-professors-house-over-his-writings-on-sexual-relations-between-men-and-boys/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">romantic courtship</a>” of teenage boys by older men.
Writing in the peer-reviewed Thymos Journal of Boyhood Studies, Hubbard detailed this position in an article titled, <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/276216200_Sexual_Consent_and_the_Adolescent_Male_or_What_Can_We_Learn_from_the_Greeks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sexual Consent and the Adolescent Male, or What Can We Learn From the Greeks</a>. Hubbard <a href="https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/editorials/2019/12/18/a-ut-professor-advocates-pedophilia-why-are-we-paying-for-it/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claims</a> that there are great benefits to relationships between older men and teenage boys by appealing to the portrayal of these relationships in Greek artworks and myths.

Hubbard also <a href="https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/editorials/2019/12/18/a-ut-professor-advocates-pedophilia-why-are-we-paying-for-it/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">states</a> that sexual relationships between teenage boys and adult men can replace the lack of intimacy that a boy might experience if the young man has an absent father.

Hubbard utilizes his research on pederasty to buoy his advocacy for lowering the federal legal age for sexual consent. Hubbard also <a href="https://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/2019/12/17/ut-students-protest-professors-house-over-his-writings-on-sexual-relations-between-men-and-boys/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">decries age-of-consent laws</a>, calling them a “sad by-product” of the Victorian era that prevented sexual liberation.

Hubbard made the distinction, in a <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200216112913if_/https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wGGrODNSdwudrF1G4uerU2DsRxcSx3DR1Nbn6JOd7ho/edit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">now-deleted google document</a>, that he was speaking on behalf of pederasty and not pedophilia. He continues in the Doc by extolling several nations for having age-of-consent laws that were lower than the United States.
Hubbard’s work has been distributed and used by <a href="https://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/2019/12/17/ut-students-protest-professors-house-over-his-writings-on-sexual-relations-between-men-and-boys/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">groups like the North American Man/Boy Love Association</a> (NAMBLA), which advocates for the abolishment of age-of-consent laws between children and adults.
The University of Texas-Austin’s administration reaffirmed Hibbard’s right to <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/students-want-thomas-hubbard-fired-for-work-on-pederasty-but-university-of-texas-says-its-protected-speech" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“explore controversial and offensive ideas</a>.” As of December 2020, <a href="https://www.statesman.com/story/news/education/2020/07/23/ut-professor-accused-of-promoting-pedophilia-sues-student-for-libel/42515639/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hubbard is suing a student and 10 others for libel</a> after they distributed flyers labeling him a pedophile.
UPDATE 
A university spokeswoman has informed the Professor Watchlist team that Thomas Hubbard is no longer employed at the University of Texas. As stated in their response, Dr. Hubbard announced his retirement in July of 2021 and is no longer associated with the University in any capacity.
Despite their written statement, <a href="https://cola.utexas.edu/european_studies/people/faculty/thubbard">Dr. Hubbard was still listed on the university website</a> as a professor in the Center for European Studies at the time of the university&#8217;s letter
In a follow-up conversation with the university spokeswomen, Dr. Hubbard&#8217;s profile was removed from the European Studies page and he is no longer listed as a faculty member with the University as of December 15th, 2021.

Dr. Vincent was Vice-President for Diversity and Community Engagement at the University of Texas-Austin. On two separate occasions, he condemned an affirmative action bake sale as "demeaning" and "deplorable". Leaving to assume the role of President of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, he later <a href="https://www.jbhe.com/2018/04/gregory-vincent-resigns-as-president-of-hobart-and-william-smith-colleges/">resigned</a> after allegations arose that he plagiarized his doctoral dissertation.

<a href="https://education.utexas.edu/faculty/jennifer_adair">Dr. Jennifer Adair</a> is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas, Austin. Dr. Adair proposed indoctrinating children as young as kindergarten in racial issues, in order to ‘prevent another Ferguson.' One proposed project involved having the students make protest signs about racial injustice or other art projects about school integration or bus boycotts. Adair and the other professors working with her drew heavily from the philosophy of radical historian Howard Zinn in their effort.

<a href="http://liberalarts.utexas.edu/history/faculty/profile.php?id=jn324">Dr. Joan Neuberger</a>, a professor at University of Texas-Austin led anti-campus carry efforts, including a petition to bar students who conceal carry from entering classrooms, in violation of Texas law. A change.org petition organized by the same group said, “WE OPPOSE GUNS IN OUR CLASSROOMS AS A DIRECT ASSAULT ON OUR FREE SPEECH RIGHTS.” Despite her proclamations about the dangers of guns, Neuberger is not actually a statistician or criminal justice professor, but a Russian history professor.

<a href="http://www.utexas.edu/cola/rs/faculty/profile.php?id=jt27">Dr. John Traphagan</a> is a Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Texas, Austin. A Campus Reform article states, "In a column for the Dallas Morning News, University of Texas at Austin professor John Traphagan said Americans are 'unable to handle' gun ownership. According to Traphagan, the U.S. should curtail or eliminate the ability to purchase guns and 'prohibit many forms of gun ownership.'"

<a href="http://journalism.utexas.edu/faculty/robert-jensen">Dr. Robert Jensen</a> is a Professor of Journalism at the University of Texas, Austin. In an essay on a social justice website, Jensen argued that rape is part of the larger violent, patriarchy. He told Campus Reform that, “I don’t believe there will be any serious progress toward eliminating men’s violence against women if we do not address the toxic notions about masculinity in patriarchy—masculinity understood as rooted in control, conquest, aggression.” Jensen also attacked a major anti-sexual assault group for blaming the perpetrators for rape, instead of focusing on the patriarchal culture as the main cause.

<a href="https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/english/faculty/sas347">Snehal Shingavi</a> is an Associate Professor of English at the University of Texas, Austin.

While teaching at the University of California, Berkeley, Shingavi co-founded the anti-Israel group <a href="https://canarymission.org/organization/sjp">Students for Justice in Palestine</a> (SJP) with Professor Hatem Bazian.  SJP is known for its vitriolic campaigns and aggressively confronting Jewish and pro-Israel students on campus. They are also known for their active role in Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns on university campuses.

Snehal first generated controversy at UC Berkeley in 2002 for his <a href="https://www.meforum.org/campus-watch/7789/hardball-interview-with-snehal-shingavi">course</a>, "The Politics and Poetics of Palestinian Resistance." The course description alleged that Israel has “systematically displaced, killed and maimed millions of Palestinian people.”

The course also all, but outright barred conservative students from attending: “This class takes as its starting point the right of Palestinians to fight for their own self-determination. Conservative thinkers are encouraged to seek other sections.”

Now teaching at UT Austin, <a href="https://canarymission.org/professor/Snehal_Shingavi">Shehal</a> is a regular at protests and events committed to demonizing Israel. During a 2014 lecture, he <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAGtcdPL244&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;t=13m15s">likened</a> Israel to Nazi Germany, claiming, “This is not me being hyperbolic…..Gaza is the biggest open air concentration camp in the world today and the condition of life in Gaza is not dissimilar to life in Auschwitz and Dachau.”

John O. Brennan is a <a href="https://intelligencestudies.utexas.edu/about/leadership" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Distinguished Scholar</a> and <a href="https://www.strausscenter.org/person/john-o-brennan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senior Advisor to the Intelligence Studies Project</a> at the <a href="https://www.utexas.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">University of Texas-Austin</a>. Brennan also serves as a <a href="https://www.centeronnationalsecurity.org/fellows#john-o-brennan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Distinguished Fellow for Global Security</a> for the Center on National Security at <a href="https://www.fordham.edu/site/index.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fordham University</a>.

Prior to both roles, Brennan served as the <a href="https://www.britannica.com/biography/John-Brennan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Director of The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) </a>from 2013 to 2017. His service and post-CIA career have been marred with controversies, including allegations of spying on political opponents, overseas clandestine operations, and incendiary comments towards conservatives and libertarians.

In 2014, the CIA was <a href="https://www.npr.org/sections/itsallpolitics/2014/03/11/289085076/feinsteins-cia-outrage-splits-senate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accused by California Senator Dianne Feinstein of illegally accessing the computers of Senate staffers</a> investigating the use of “enhanced interrogation” against detainees. <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2014/03/brennan-denies-claims-cia-hacked-senate-computers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brennan initially denied the allegations</a>, stating that, “Nothing could be further from the truth.” Brennan was later forced to apologize when an Inspector General report found that <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/technology/213933-cia-admits-to-wrongly-hacking-into-senate-computers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senate computers were in fact “hacked” by CIA officials</a>.

Brennan has been accused of arming radical Islamists during the Syrian Civil War. As The American Conservative documents, <a href="https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/how-america-armed-terrorists-in-syria/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The CIA—under Brennan's direction—played a significant role in supplying deadly weapons to al-Qaeda affiliates</a> in an attempt to topple the Syrian dictator Bashar Al-Assad.

In his final years as CIA director, Brennan played a prominent role in what later became known as “Russiagate.” During the 2016 general election, intelligence agencies attempted to determine whether or not then-presidential candidate Donald Trump coordinated with the Russian Government to <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/cybersecurity/288883-wikileaks-posts-20000-dnc-emails" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hack and release sensitive emails from the Democratic National Committee</a>. Special Counsel Robert Mueller later found that there was <a href="https://www.dw.com/en/mueller-report-found-no-evidence-of-trump-russia-collusion-justice-dept/a-48046468" target="_blank" rel="noopener">no evidence of any coordination between the Trump Campaign and the Russian Government</a>.

While investigating Trump, John Brennan relied on allegations in what became known as the “Steele Dossier”— <a href="https://www.npr.org/2017/08/23/545289362/researcher-behind-unverified-trump-dossier-meets-senate-investigators" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a series of salacious allegations and potentially compromising information against Donald Trump</a> — compiled by British Intelligence agent Christopher Steele. The <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/09/steeles-dossier-source-was-a-suspected-russian-spy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">source for the dossier was later found to be a suspected Russian Spy,</a> who likely <a href="https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/453384-fbis-spreadsheet-puts-a-stake-through-the-heart-of-steeles-dossier" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exaggerated or falsified his information</a>.

Despite <a href="https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/442944-fbis-steele-story-falls-apart-false-intel-and-media-contacts-were-flagged" target="_blank" rel="noopener">agents flagging the information as false</a>, the Steele Dossier was later used as the basis to <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2019/12/09/ig-report-confirms-no-fisa-warrant-on-carter-page-without-steele-dossier/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">obtain warrants to surveil members of the Trump campaign</a>. Initially pushing to include the information, <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2019/12/09/brennan-lied-about-not-including-steele-dossier-in-intelligence-community-assessment-on-2016-russian-election-interference/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brennan later lied under congressional oath, stating he did not include the Steele Dossier in intelligence briefings</a>.

Declassified, handwritten notes from Brennan further show that he assisted in <a href="https://news.yahoo.com/dni-releases-cia-documents-hillary-204337457.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">efforts to tie the Trump campaign to Russia</a> to benefit the Hillary Clinton campaign. This is consistent with testimony accusing <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2020/05/12/fox-news-john-brennan-russia-hillary-clinton/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brennan of suppressing intelligence that the Russian Government wanted Hillary Clinton to win</a> the 2016 presidential election.

Brennan continued to publically attack President Trump after the 2016 election, accusing <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2018/08/19/brennan_on_sunday_i_stand_by_accusing_president_trump_of_treason.html#!" target="_blank" rel="noopener">him of “treason” against the United States on behalf of Russia</a>. Brennan <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2017/05/25/ex-cia-director-john-brennan-ive-seen-no-evidence-collusion-russia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">admits that he has seen no evidence that Donald Trump colluded</a> with the Russian government to win the 2016 election.

Following the Capital Hill riots, John Brennan <a href="https://twitter.com/tomselliott/status/1352007118392582148?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1352007118392582148%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwearechange.org%2Feven-libertarians-john-brennan-issues-list-of-ideologies-biden-intel-community-should-go-after%2F" target="_blank" rel="noopener">has described libertarians as terrorists and white supremacists</a>.

On his personal Twitter account, Brennan demands that conservatives need to publically recant their support of Donald Trump and admit that it was wrong to support the President of the United States.

In an interview with MSNBC, Brennan <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/deadline-white-house/watch/fmr-cia-dir-brennan-republicans-will-continue-to-gaslight-the-country-101798469719" target="_blank" rel="noopener">remarks</a> that many conservatives make him “embarrassed to be a white man.”

Brennan has admitted in the past that he voted for the Communist Party in past elections. According to CNN, Brennan <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2016/09/15/politics/john-brennan-cia-communist-vote/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recounts</a> that he admitted to voting for the Communist Party Candidate, Gus Hall, in the 1976 general election. Brennan is reported <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2016/09/15/politics/john-brennan-cia-communist-vote/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stating</a> that voting for Hall was his way of “signaling his unhappiness of the system.”

As The Spectator <a href="https://spectator.org/john-brennans-president-remembering-comrade-gus-hall/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">documents</a>, Gus Hall was a four-time presidential candidate and leader of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). Throughout his career, Hall defended atrocities committed by the Soviet Union while secretly receiving tens of millions of dollars from the Kremlin.

Dr. Kevin Cokley is the <a href="https://education.utexas.edu/faculty/kevin_cokley" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Department Chair of the Department of Educational Psychology</a> as well as a Professor of African American Diaspora Studies and Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas - Austin. He is a Distinguished Teaching Professor and is published in many outlets, including Journal of Black Psychology, The Huffington Post, and The Hill. Dr. Cokley has taught many courses, some of which are Psychology of African American Experience and Multicultural Counseling.

Dr. Cokley is very openly pro-critical race theory. <a href="https://www.courierpress.com/story/opinion/2021/07/15/viewpoint-teaching-critical-race-theory-patriotic-not-anti-american/7982099002/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In an opinion piece for Courier &amp; Press</a>, Dr. Cokley claims that critical race theory is actually patriotic. He accuses conservatives of pushing a false narrative about critical race theory by claiming it’s “divisive, hostile, and anti-American… and teaches kids to hate each other” which is a “politicized misrepresentation.”

Later in the article, Dr. Cokley makes the claim that the first line of the U.S. Constitution, “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union…” suggests that even our founders believed America is a work-in progress. According to him, critical race theory reminds us that this is still very true.

Dr. Cokley <a href="https://redstate.com/alexparker/2021/07/09/usa-today-runs-pro-critical-race-theory-piece-professor-says-crts-not-divisive-or-anti-american-n408847" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defines critical race theory</a> as an idea “which posits that racism is not simply acts of individual bias or prejudice, but rather is embedded in institutions, policies and legal systems.” While he states he has never explicitly taught critical race theory, he does teach ideas consistent with critical race theory by providing students with examples of how Black inferiority and racism are deeply woven into modern school practices. He asserts that conservatives who are against critical race theory are wanting to prevent any type of discussion around racism or putting America in a negative light. Dr. Cokley argues that there is nothing anti-American about acknowledging the fact that racism is woven into the fabric of the United States.

In June of 2021, Dr. Cokley appeared on a <a href="https://www.fox7austin.com/video/690219" target="_blank" rel="noopener">segment for Fox 7 News Austin</a> discussing racial injustices. The video shows violent riots after the death of George Floyd while Dr. Cokley justifies this behavior because of racial injustice in America. <a href="https://sociology.rutgers.edu/faculty/affliliated-graduate-faculty/541-kumar-deepa">Dr. Deepa Kumar</a> is a Professor of Media Studies as well as Middle Eastern Studies at Rutgers University. She argued on Twitter that the U.S. military is worse than ISIS. Kumar wrote on Twitter, "Yes ISIS is brutal, but US is more so, 1.3 million killed in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan."

<a href="http://womens-studies.rutgers.edu/faculty/core-faculty/143-jasbir-puar">Dr. Jasbir Puar</a>, a professor at Rutgers University, was invited to speak at Vassar. Her lecture was titled “Inhumanist Biopolitics: How Palestine Matters.” In her lecture, she accuses Israel of “stunting” growth of Palestinian bodies through scientific experiment as well as harvesting their organs.

<a href="http://www.kevin-allred.com/">Kevin Allred</a> was an adjunct instructor at Rutgers University. He underwent a psych evaluation after a series of questionable and possibly threatening tweets relating to Trump and the Second Amendment. He also went to Twitter after the election to complain that Rutgers had not publicly ensured the safety of students after Trump won. He also teaches a class called "Politicizing Beyonce". He was <a href="https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2016/11/21/rutgers-places-adjunct-leave-tweets-he-says-were-based-rhetoric-president-elect">placed</a> on administrative leave as of 2016

<a href="http://history.rutgers.edu/faculty-directory/174-markowitz-norman">Dr. Norman Markowitz</a> is a Professor of History at Rutgers University. Dr. Markowitz is also an active member of the Communist Party USA since 1978.  He writes and teaches about communism using his “Marxist Perspective.” As a supporter of Obama, Markowitz said that it would be good if Obama’s policies were labeled socialist because it would bring socialism to the forefront and looked at more seriously as a viable option for Americans. He has been a longtime defender of the Communist spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, and has said he has “enormous respect” for Howard Zinn, a Marxist historian.

<a href="http://www.polisci.rutgers.edu/cb-profile/userprofile/whfield">Dr. William Field</a>, a professor at Rutgers University, sent out an email to all political science majors and minors to protest against Condoleeza Rice serving as their commencement speaker. He was also said to have congratulated one of the lead organizers of the protest who had damaged university property.

<a href="https://law.rutgers.edu/directory/view/mbk69" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Margo Kaplan</a> is a Professor of Law at <a href="https://law.rutgers.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rutgers University Law School</a> in Camden, New Jersey. According to her university biography, she teaches courses on “Criminal Law, Health Law and Policy, and Sex Crimes” and explores the “legal limitations on intimate decisions.”

Dr. Kaplan has spent her academic career attempting to normalize pedophilia. In a paper for the <a href="https://scholarlycommons.law.wlu.edu/wlulr/vol72/iss1/4/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Washington and Lee Law Review</a>, she advocates for the reclassification of pedophilia as a mental disorder so that pedophiles may be awarded more civil rights:

“...we should not categorically deny pedophilia the civil rights protections afforded to other mental disorders without a convincing normative justification supported by cogent scientific evidence. Strengthening civil rights protections for those with pedophilia also increases access to treatment and support that helps prevent child abuse.”

In a similar piece for the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/06/opinion/pedophilia-a-disorder-not-a-crime.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York</a><a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/06/opinion/pedophilia-a-disorder-not-a-crime.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Times</a>—titled, "Pedophilia: A Disorder, Not a Crime,"—Dr. Kaplan attempts a sickening effort to lure readers into sympathizing with pedophiles by characterizing pedophiles as adolescents with harmless, childhood crushes.

“THINK back to your first childhood crush. Maybe it was a classmate or a friend next door. Most likely, through school and into adulthood, your affections continued to focus on others in your approximate age group. But imagine if they did not. By some estimates, 1 percent of the male population continues, long after puberty, to find themselves attracted to prepubescent children. These people are living with pedophilia, a sexual attraction to prepubescents that often constitutes a mental illness. Unfortunately, our laws are failing them and, consequently, ignoring opportunities to prevent child abuse.”

Her intellectual sleight of hand is prevalent in both pieces. Kaplan blames the abuse of children partially on what she views as the severity in which society treats pedophilia, resulting in pedophiles abstaining from seeking treatment.

When later interviewed by <a href="https://www.phillymag.com/news/2014/10/06/pedophilia-not-a-crime-rutgers-margo-kaplan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Philadelphia Magazine</a>, Dr. Kapland claimed to be “shocked” at the amount of support she had received, accusing critics she did have of not even reading her article.

<a href="https://history.rutgers.edu/people/faculty/details/1143-bray-mark">Mark Bray</a> is a part-time lecturer in the Department of History at Rutgers University.

Bray first gained notoriety in 2017 when he <a href="https://www.mhpbooks.com/books/antifa/">authored</a> "The Anti-Fascist Handbook," and offered to <a href="https://campusreform.org/?id=14972">donate</a> half of the proceeds to ANTIFA.

Bray fully endorses ANTIFA’s embrace of violence as a tactic, and often describes it as “self-defense”. He has <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=9616">stated</a> that in order to “preemptively” shut down far-right events and gatherings,  “physical violence against white supremacists is both ethically justifiable and strategically effective.”

Soon after publication, he appeared on NBC to <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/antifa-violence-ethical-author-explains-why-n796106">defend</a> the use of force against opposing protestors. He claimed that as an illiberal organization, ANTIFA has and will continue to shut down the free speech of the far right.

Bray recently penned an op-ed in the <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2020/06/01/trump-antifa-terrorist-organization/">Washington Post</a> in the midst of mass-rioting following the death of George Floyd. After expressing sympathy with the looters, Bray claims that police officers are, in fact, deadlier than ANTIFA.  He wrote, “...and in the United States, ANTIFA have never killed anyone, unlike their enemies in Klan hoods and squad cars.” 

After his views were <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/red-alert-politics/dartmouth-president-disavows-professor-justified-antifa-violence-self-defense">condemned</a> by Dartmouth University - his employer at the time - Bray soon began lecturing at Rutgers, where his university biography describes him as a “historian of human rights, terrorism, and politics in Modern Europe.”

<a href="https://asianlanguages.rutgers.edu/menu-i/69-richard-vanness-simmons">Richard VanNess Simmons</a> is a professor of Chinese and East Asian Studies and serves as the <a href="https://www.ciru.rutgers.edu/about-us/people-2">Director of the Confucius Institute</a> at Rutgers University. The Confucius Institute is funded by the Chinese Communist Party and serves as a focal point for the dissemination of propaganda and foreign espionage on American campuses.

<a href="https://africanastudies.rutgers.edu/people/core-faculty/people-list/30-faculty/140-brittney-cooper">Brittney Cooper</a> is an associate professor of Africana and Women’s and Gender Studies at Rutgers University. Much of her research and writing centers around the intersections of race, feminism, and gender. Cooper’s work has led her to develop a number of bizarre opinions:

 	<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">A founding principle of our nation is that black people are inhuman, therefore<a href="https://www.salon.com/2015/04/29/black_americas_baltimore_schism_why_the_freddie_gray_tragedy_demands_serious_soul_searching/"> riots are really just resistance</a> against an unjust system.</li>
 	<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">BREXIT was the result of<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=7760"> white nationalism.</a></li>

Cooper has attributed most of the deaths from the pandemic to racism and conservatives, stating that, “I feel like most Black people are clear that this utterly absurd push to re-open the country is all about a gross necropolitical calculation that it is Black people who are dying disproportionately from COVID,” and <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/rutgers-university-prof-reopening-the-country-is-about-killing-black-people/">blaming Trump supporters for the hundreds of thousands of deaths</a> due to the coronavirus.

Cooper has previously stated that a conservative’s beliefs are “rooted in racism.” In an appearance on MSNBC, <a href="https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/duncan-schroeder/2020/08/30/deranged-msnbc-pundit-goes-hateful-rant-against-trump-voters">Cooper stated that conservatives have a desire for power</a> at the expense of black and brown Americans.

Cooper has denigrated conservatives throughout her career along racial lines. <a href="https://www.c-span.org/video/?444245-2/eloquent-rage&amp;playEvent">During a speech in Baltimore</a>, she stated that as white men lose their power, they will continue to “terrorize” black men and women. In a previous thread, she stated that the black community is being eaten alive by “capitalism, patriarchy, and racism,” and white people won’t feel any negative consequences of these systems so long as they can continue to displace white people through systems like gentrification.

Ms. <a href="https://crimjust.rutgers.edu/people/faculty-directory/details/30-faculty/faculty/620-erakat-noura">Noura Erakat</a> is an Assistant Professor of Africana Studies at Rutgers University. According to her university profile, Professor Erakat specializes in fields that include international law, humanitarian law, human rights law, national security law, refugee law, and critical race theory. A harsh critic of the state of Israel, the professor has repeatedly demonized and called for the destruction of the only Jewish state in the world.

Professor Erakat’s work frequently characterizes Israel as a racist state that is equivalent to the apartheid-era South African government. In a November 2019 interview with DemocracyNow, she stated, ”<a href="https://www.democracynow.org/2019/11/19/noura_erakat_israeli_settlements_trump_announcement">we are witnessing the entrenchment of an apartheid regime</a>, and the U.S. [is] at the helm of that process.”

Professor Erakat repeats this false claim to justify her support of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. In a November 2020 video panel discussion with the Middle East Institute, Professor Erakat calls on the world <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S7ZkKMFUuU&amp;t=3956s">to resist and alienate Israel via adherence to a BDS platform</a>.

BDS—short for Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions—supporters embrace the following three tenets as a feature of the campaign:

- Boycotting all goods that originate from the state of Israel;

- Divesting all funds (private or public) that are allocated to Israel; and

- Placing sanctions exclusively on Israel.

Mr. Omar Barghouti, a co-founder of the BDS movement, admits that the ultimate outcome of these steps is the <a href="https://twitter.com/StandWithUs/status/1267561561565958144">dismantlement of the state of Israel</a>.

Professor Erakat likewise calls for Israel to be destroyed and replaced by an Arab-majority Palestinian state. As reported by The Spectator in July 2019, Ms. Erakat spoke at an event in Washington, DC, where she <a href="https://spectator.org/noura-erakat-recounts-her-anxiety-over-israels-existence/">advocated for Arabs to “help indigenize” Jews in Israel </a>in order to achieve a sole Palestinian state or a “one-state solution.”

Professor Erakat is far more brazen in calling for the outright destruction of Israel when speaking at anti-Israel protests around the country. During one march in May 2021—captured by News2Share—she called for the <a href="https://twitter.com/FordFischer/status/1393739882825195521/">liberation of Palestine, “from the river to the sea.</a>”

According to the Israeli newspaper Arutz Sheva, the chant, “from the river to the sea,” was <a href="https://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/291203">popularized by terrorist groups such as the Palestinian Liberation Organization</a> (PLO). The phrase alludes to the destruction of Israel—and thus the genocide of the nation’s Jews—between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1948/08/02/archives/aim-to-oust-jews-pledged-by-sheikh-head-of-moslem-brotherhood-says.html">The chant is thought to originate from the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hassan el-Banna</a>, who was qouted by The New York Times stating, "If the Jewish state becomes a fact, and this is realized by the Arab peoples, they will drive the Jews who live in their midst into the sea."

Even though Professor Erakat can be heard calling for the “denuclearization of Israel” in the same speech, she had in 2013 <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I20HOx5zfv0&amp;ab_channel=JFhsfohhMN">condemned efforts to dismantle Iran’s nuclear program as “racist</a>.”

During a separate march in May of 2021,  Ms. Erakat can be heard chanting “By spirit and by blood, we redeem you, Palestine!” in front of the Israeli Embassy.

In April of 2020, Noura Erakat’s cousin, Mr. Ahmed Erakat, was killed after <a href="https://www.algemeiner.com/2020/06/29/palestinian-rams-a-checkpoint-death-lies-and-videotape/">ramming his car into an Israeli checkpoint during a failed terrorist attack</a>. Despite the publication of footage verifying the incident and a pipe bomb later being found in the van by investigators, Ms. Erakat continues to claim that he was murdered by Israeli forces.

Dr. James Livingston is <a href="https://history.rutgers.edu/faculty-directory/172-livingston-james" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a tenured Professor of History</a> at Rutgers University. His specialty is listed as Modern US: Intellectual and Economic History. He considers himself an “economic historian” and professionally writes many publications about politics, economics, and working in the United States.

In his personal time, Dr. Livingston often takes to Facebook to discuss similar topics, but in a less professional manner. <a href="https://pen.org/press-clip/white-professor-accused-of-antiwhite-racism/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In a Facebook post from May 31, 2018</a>, Dr. Livingston denounces the white race and belligerently asserts he “hates white people.” Later in the post, he calls white Americans “little caucasian assholes who know their parents will approve of anything they do” and “little shitheads.”

When Facebook flagged the post and took it down, rather than apologize for his racist rant, he posted the following:

Shortly after his anti-white tirade, Rutgers launched an investigation into his posts. The university stated that they received several anonymous complaints about the posts, calling them to take action against the Professor. Dr. Livingston claimed he was making a statement about gentrification and told university officials that white supremacists were sending him threatening messages.

The investigation was headed by Carolyn Dellatore, the associate director of the Office of Employment Equity. <a href="https://www.thefire.org/rutgers-investigation-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Her investigation found that</a> “given Professor Livingston’s insistence on making disparaging racial comments, a reasonable student may have concerns that he or she would be stigmatized in his classes because of his or her race. As such, Professor Livingston’s comments have violated university policy.” He argued, however, that his posts were not racist because white people cannot be discriminated against. He also argued that the first amendment gave him the right to freedom of speech.

The university initially decided to sanction Dr. Livingston, but they <a href="https://www.northjersey.com/story/news/2018/11/15/no-punishment-rutgers-university-professor-over-white-people-comments-facebook/2016377002/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ultimately reversed their decision</a> in November 2018, clearing him of all charges. Dr. Livingston is still teaching at Rutgers University today.

<a href="https://comminfo.rutgers.edu/kumanyika-chenjerai">Dr. Chenjerai Kumanyika</a> is an Assistant Professor at Rutgers University. Dr. Kumanyika traveled to Ferguson, MO multiple times to protest the non-indictment of the white police officer who shot Michael Brown. He was also a signatory on a letter supporting the demands from the Coalition of Concerned Students who believe in prosecuting what they call “predatory behaviors and defamatory speech,” even from social media sources. The letter also calls for building a new multi-cultural center, more support for “underrepresented groups,” increasing the number of minority faculty members, and for Clemson employees to go through diversity training. Chenjerai also orchestrated a campaign against a student senate candidate and accused a candidate of racism for posing with a gun and American flag for his campaign poster.

<a href="https://www.religion.ucsb.edu/people/faculty/rudy-busto/">Rudy Busto </a>is an Associate Professor at the University of California - Santa Barbara. His work is described as examining how “race structures state and civil society” and how the concept of race structures religion. 

As reported by <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=14987">Campus Reform</a>, Busto recently gave a lengthy presentation to one of his classes at the end of the semester in which he explained in detail why he believes that America is not an exceptional nation. He declared that “history has dispelled the notion of American Exceptionalism,” Busto listed off the reasons why he believed that America was no longer exceptional, including losing the Vietnam War and the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

<a href="https://www.religion.ucsb.edu/people/student/timothy-snediker/">Timothy Snediker</a> works in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He first rose to notoriety for tweeting about his desire to assassinate Jesus Christ.

Snediker’s animosity towards Christ stems from his belief that the concepts of the individual and capitalism, both of which he opposes, arose out of Christianity during the enlightenment in Europe.

In the <a href="http://jcrt.org/religioustheory/2016/05/18/theodicy-of-money-the-scene-and-subject-of-forgiveness/">Theodicy of Money - The Scene of and Subject Forgiveness</a>, Snediker writes:

“Against the standard left critique of capitalism, which presupposes a certain secularism and a certain atheism, one must rather grapple with the peculiar verve of a comment made by Giorgio Agamben: “God did not die; he was transformed into money...To the identity of Christianity and capitalism corresponds the identity of God and money….Today, it is simply not enough to be an atheist, because, in the last instance, everyone believes in money." 

As written in <a href="https://jcrt.org/archives/14.1/snediker.pdf">The Autonomy of the Now</a>, he further expands on his position:

“Our hypothesis is that, under the brutal conditions of global capitalist hegemony, resistance necessitates the affirmation of the intrinsic instability and artificiality of identity…”

“...resistance to power necessitates a two-fold refusal of the authority and sovereignty of both Christianity and Secularism…”

“Secularization is the strategic means by which the West (which is to say, Christendom, or European colonialism, or, simply, Christianity) effects its accumulations, its appropriations, and its dominations.....Christianity’s hegemony has not waned; it has metamorphosed and Metastasized."

“Christianity is the identitarian religion par excellence: it ceaselessly works to individualize, legitimate and commoditize one’s identity....this is how Christianity was constituted as a privileged instrument of power”

“Resistance to power necessitates, therefore, a restoration of the autonomy of the now, which in turn requires a two-fold counter-strategy: one the one hand, an acceptance of the instability of identity and the concurrent affirmation of our becoming-other; on the other hand, a refusal of power, which, in the era of global capitalism amounts to a critique of the secular, or, again, a critique of Christianity. “

"Our imperative is to join the struggle for subjectivity, to struggle to speak truthfully about ourselves, to discover that relation to the outside which allows us, in accordance with Nietzsche’s injunction, to become what we are—to become, in a word, anti-Christian."

Snediker’s vitriol towards Christianity exploded when asked what he would do if he could travel 2000 years back in time, he <a href="https://twitter.com/realBenLeBlanc/status/1287809540373778434">tweeted</a>:

“Easy. I would find and assassinate Jesus of Nazareth.” 

He then proceeded to double-down, tweeting:

“Theologically speaking, it would be really important to get him before his calling and ministry begins, so that gives me roughly a decade to make it to Palestine, locate the man, and make my move. I don’t want to be the heroic Judas avant la lettre”

<a href="https://www.linguistics.ucsb.edu/people/mary-bucholtz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Mary Bucholtz</a> is a Professor of Linguistics at the University of California - Santa Barbara. Dr. Bucholtz’s areas of specialization include race, language, gender, sexuality, and African American English in California. She teaches larger, Gen-Ed courses for non-linguistic majors and is the author of “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/White-Kids-Language-Styles-Identity/dp/0521692040" target="_blank" rel="noopener">White Kids: Language, Race and Styles of Youth Identity</a>. “

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Kx-LdeZ3EY" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In a lecture recorded in 2020</a> for the Linguistic Society for America, Dr. Bucholtz announced that she is “passionate about dismantling racism and white supremacy in linguistics” during a lecture on racial equity. She began the lecture with a Native American “land acknowledgment” and characterized herself as a white, cis female-identifying person who is a “racist in recovery.”

Dr. Bucholtz ended her portion of the lecture by arguing that white students devalue inclusivity because they are uncomfortable with losing their place of privilege. She told teachers that they will need to be ready to “push back against their pushback”.

During another part of the Q&amp;A portion of her lecture, one listener asked how marginalized students in conservative communities can connect with one another. In her response, Dr. Bulcholtz urged students to take steps in order to protect themselves.

In another presentation, Dr. Bucholtz stated that she focuses on <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/17ZF8hrFLlfWIU97nshTp_NtG9z1ElDAF/edit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">white linguists because they are the ones who have created, reproduced, and benefited from the racist and exclusionary practices of our discipline, so white people must be the ones to fix it</a>.

<a href="https://manoa.hawaii.edu/biology/people/marguerite-butler">Dr. Marguerite Butler</a> is a Professor of Zoology at the University of Hawaii-Manoa. Butler is currently being sued by a student for assault and battery. She allegedly attacked the student for not transporting bugs and flammable liquids. According to the student, he was trying to respect federal and state laws regarding the transportation and removal of these specific fluids and native bugs.

<a href="https://math.hawaii.edu/wordpress/people/paharron/">Dr. Piper Harron</a> is a Temporary Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Hawaii. Harron wrote an article about how white, male professors should resign or take a demotion in order to improve diversity. Harron wrote, "If you are a white cis man (meaning you identify as male and you were assigned male at birth) you almost certainly should resign from your position of power. That’s right, please quit. Too difficult? Well, as a first step, at least get off your hiring committee, your curriculum committee, and make sure you’re replaced by a woman of color or trans person." She also wrote, "What can universities do? Well, that’s easier. Stop hiring white cis men (except as needed to get/retain people who are not white cis men) until the problem goes away. If you think this is a bad or un-serious idea, your sexism/racism/transphobia is showing."

<a href="https://sites.temple.edu/josephschwartz/">Dr. Joseph Schwartz</a>, a Professor of Political Science at Temple University, took over a College Republican discussion with a representative from Pennsylvania Right to Work Defense and Education Foundation. He and some of his students insulted the speaker and accused him of racism. Schwartz then exclaimed, “Oh come on, f*****g a&#8211;. I believe in the religion of foul language.”

<a href="https://sites.temple.edu/josephschwartz/">Dr. Joseph Schwartz</a>, a Professor of Political Science at Temple University, took over a College Republican discussion with a representative from Pennsylvania Right to Work Defense and Education Foundation. <a href="https://www.temple.edu/about/faculty-staff/sara-goldrick-rab-tug64840">Dr. Sara Goldrick-Rab</a>, a Professor of Policy, Organizational, and Leadership Studies at Temple University, took to Twitter to compare Republican governor Scott Walker to Hitler. Her tweet said “My grandfather, a psychologist, just walked me through the similarities between Walker and Hitler. There are so many- it’s terrifying”. According to Campus Reform, the tweets followed a contentious battle over budgets and policy changes for the University of Wisconsin system.

<a href="https://education.temple.edu/about/faculty-staff/marc-lamont-hill-marchill">Marc Lamont Hill</a> is a Professor of Media Studies and Production and of Policy, Organizational, and Leadership Studies at Temple University.

In 2018, Marc Lamont Hill was <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/29/media/marc-lamont-hill-cnn/index.html">fired</a> by CNN for his anti-Israel remarks. Speaking before the UN, Hill called for a "free Palestine from the river to the sea, " which are sentiments widely understood as a call for the elimination of the state of Israel and replacement with an Arab state from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.

Hill was previously under fire for his relationship with the open anti-Semite and Nation of Islam leader, Louis Farrakhan. He has repeatedly <a href="https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/dec/18/marc-lamont-hill-stands-brother-farrakhan-we-shoul/">refused</a> to condemn Farrakhan, stating, 

“Minister <a href="https://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/louis-farrakhan/">Farrakhan</a> is my brother. The idea that we have to renounce him, denounce him, throw him away … in the black tradition, I ain’t got the luxury of throwing people who love us away. I ain’t got the luxury of taking people who come out of traditions that have saved us and cleaned us and throw them away. We can’t do that. We shouldn’t do that.”

<a href="https://fhssfaculty.byu.edu/directory/jane-lopez" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Jane Lopez</a> is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at <a href="https://www.byu.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brigham Young University</a> in Provo, Utah. According to her university biography, her research focuses on immigration, citizenship, law, race, and ethnicity.
In addition to teaching a class on immigration, Dr. Lopez is a sought-after speaker on the topic by the university. She was a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FNKG4m6FOg&amp;t=4041s&amp;ab_channel=BYUKennedyCenter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">featured guest in a Kennedy Center</a> event that condemned current immigration laws as oppressive and racist.
During her remarks, Dr. Lopez echoed her co-panelists praise of illegal immigration and encouragement to violate existing immigration laws. She further referred to the expectation of immigrants to learn English as a “privilege” of native-born Americans who will never face immigration laws.
Toward the end of her speech, Dr. Lopez stated that our ancestors were illegal immigrants. Americans have no right to deny immigrants, as this country “isn’t ours to begin with” and our ancestors caused &#8220;much greater destruction&#8221; than immigrants do today.

The assignment, titled “Revealing Whiteness Activity,” asks teams of 3-4 students to explore the different aspects of “whiteness” built into the “physical and social environment” of BYU,
“As a Predominantly White Institution (PWI), BYU not only has a disproportionate number of White students in its student body (compared to the US population as a whole), but it also has different aspects of “Whiteness” built into its physical and social environment.” 
The document cites University of Washington professor and author of “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/White-Fragility-People-About-Racism/dp/0807047414" target="_blank" rel="noopener">White Fragility</a>,” Robin DeAngelo, to define “whiteness” as the “specific dimensions of racism that serve to elevate White people over people of color.” She includes three additional definitions to further define the term as:
&#8211; A location of structural advantage, or “race privilege.”
&#8211; A “standpoint,” or a place from which White people look at themselves, at others, and at society.
&#8211; A set of cultural practices that are usually unmarked and unnamed.

Students are tasked with identifying and photographing three separate manifestations of alleged whiteness on BYU’s campus before uploading the assignment for a final grade.
The document was originally published by the student-led publication, “<a href="https://thecougarchronicle.godaddysites.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Cougar Chronicle,</a>” and <a href="https://www.tpusa.com/live/at-byu-all-you-have-to-do-to-get-an-a-is-be-a-racist" target="_blank" rel="noopener">highlighted by TPUSA’s Morgan Zegers</a>,
Upon the initial publication, a professor now identified as Dr. Eric Bybee, threatened to report all students affiliated with the story to BYU’s Honor Code Office. Dr. Bybee further called for the administration to investigate the students for possible conduct violations. (The names of the students cited by Dr. Bybee have been redacted at their request.) The author eventually altered the article out of concern for his academic standing.

<a href="https://fhssfaculty.byu.edu/directory/rebecca-deschweinitz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Rebecca de Schweinitz</a> is an Associate Professor of History at <a href="https://www.byu.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brigham Young University</a> (BYU) in Provo, Utah. According to her university biography, Dr. de Schweinitz teaches subjects such as American History, US Women’s History, and African American History.

Much of Dr. de Schweinitz’s work focuses on racism within the LDS Church and BYU. In one of her published papers—tilted <a href="https://www.dialoguejournal.com/articles/there-is-no-equality-william-e-berrett-byu-and-healing-the-wounds-of-racism-in-the-latter-day-saint-past-and-present/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“There is No Equity”</a>—Dr. de Schweinitz details the history of racism within the university.

Dr. de Schweinitz is frequently cited by BYU for her expertise on racism, or more specifically, “anti-racism.” In one discussion—hosted by the BYU Kennedy Center—she extolls anti-racist scholar, Ibram X Kendi’s Book, “<a href="https://www.ibramxkendi.com/how-to-be-an-antiracist/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">How to be an Antiracist</a>.”

Dr. Kendi’s book became a bestseller in 2020 during the height of the BLM riots. The premise targets systemic racism and claims that not it is not enough or to be “non-racist,” an individual must be anti racist, or take proactive actions or support policies that alleviate racism.

During her comments on the panel, Dr. de Schweinitz <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RO0V1tQzMU&amp;ab_channel=BYUKennedyCenter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vehemently endorses Dr. Kendi’s work</a>. She even goes as far as to compare herself to Dr. Kendi, lauding the historical credentials of the latter. Furthermore, she openly admits that Dr. Kendi’s conception is taught in her classroom and centers her scholarships.

At one point, she calls racism a “metastatic cancer” that affects every single aspect of life in the United States. She admits that Dr. Kendi is right, and that white people are “nurtured” to be racist.

Throughout the lecture, Dr. de Schweintz frequently references her LDS background as a pretext to cite the need to be “antiracist.” At one point, she compares God’s position on sin to her own—and by default, Dr. Keni’s as well—on racism; as one can either be for the world or for God, likewise you can either be racist or anti-racist.

This theme is <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPCoxKtNvsg&amp;ab_channel=BYUKennedyCenter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continued in part two of the lecture.</a> Dr. de Schweinitz wastes no time in not only praising critical race theory, but listing it as integral to fighting racism.

As <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2012/03/11/what-is-critical-race-theory/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ben Shapiro writes in Breitbart News</a>, critical race theory is an intellectual branch of Marxism that views America and all of its institutions as being infected with white supremacy—to the point of some, including <a href="https://www.professorwatchlist.org/professor/nikolehannahjones" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nikole Hannah-Jones</a>, even <a href="https://reason.com/2020/09/23/1619-project-nikole-hannah-jones-1776-founding-race-new-york-times/">claiming</a> America’s real founding was in 1619 when the first slave stepped foot in North America, and not 1776 when the American colonies declared independence from England.

Dr. de Schweinitz states that anyone opposed to CRT is just viewing American history narrow-mindedly. She further states that an anti-racist America is “beautiful.” She articulates that critical theory is “one of many tools” that can be used by the church to alleviate racism.

<a href="https://fhssfaculty.byu.edu/directory/jane-lopez" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Jane Lopez</a> is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at <a href="https://www.byu.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brigham Young University</a> in Provo, Utah. According to her university biography, her research focuses on immigration, citizenship, law, race, and ethnicity.

In addition to teaching a class on immigration, Dr. Lopez is a sought-after speaker on the topic by the university. She was a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FNKG4m6FOg&amp;t=4041s&amp;ab_channel=BYUKennedyCenter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">featured guest in a Kennedy Center</a> event that condemned current immigration laws as oppressive and racist.

During her remarks, Dr. Lopez echoed her co-panelists praise of illegal immigration and encouragement to violate existing immigration laws. She further referred to the expectation of immigrants to learn English as a “privilege” of native-born Americans who will never face immigration laws.

Toward the end of her speech, Dr. Lopez stated that our ancestors were illegal immigrants. Americans have no right to deny immigrants, as this country “isn’t ours to begin with” and our ancestors caused "much greater destruction" than immigrants do today.

Dr. Lopez’s classes further focus on race and “white privilege.” In leaked documents from her course, SOC-112, Dr. Lopez tasked students to identify and expose “whiteness” at BYU.

The assignment, titled “Revealing Whiteness Activity,” asks teams of 3-4 students to explore the different aspects of “whiteness” built into the “physical and social environment” of BYU,

“As a Predominantly White Institution (PWI), BYU not only has a disproportionate number of White students in its student body (compared to the US population as a whole), but it also has different aspects of “Whiteness” built into its physical and social environment.” 

The document cites University of Washington professor and author of “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/White-Fragility-People-About-Racism/dp/0807047414" target="_blank" rel="noopener">White Fragility</a>,” Robin DeAngelo, to define “whiteness” as the “specific dimensions of racism that serve to elevate White people over people of color.” She includes three additional definitions to further define the term as:
- A location of structural advantage, or “race privilege.”
- A “standpoint,” or a place from which White people look at themselves, at others, and at society.
- A set of cultural practices that are usually unmarked and unnamed.

Students are tasked with identifying and photographing three separate manifestations of alleged whiteness on BYU’s campus before uploading the assignment for a final grade.

The document was originally published by the student-led publication, “<a href="https://thecougarchronicle.godaddysites.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Cougar Chronicle,</a>” and <a href="https://www.tpusa.com/live/at-byu-all-you-have-to-do-to-get-an-a-is-be-a-racist" target="_blank" rel="noopener">highlighted by TPUSA’s Morgan Zegers</a>,

Upon the initial publication, a professor now identified as Dr. Eric Bybee, threatened to report all students affiliated with the story to BYU’s Honor Code Office. Dr. Bybee further called for the administration to investigate the students for possible conduct violations. (The names of the students cited by Dr. Bybee have been redacted at their request.) The author eventually altered the article out of concern for his academic standing.

In a message to the conservative, student-run publication, <a href="https://thecougarchronicle.godaddysites.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Cougar Chronicle</a>, Dr. Bybee threatened to report writers of the site and others for academic misconduct. The incident stemmed from a report by the paper in which a document from Dr. Jane Lopez’s course was published.

Her assignment—titled, “Revealing Whiteness Activity,”—asked students to identify and photograph three aspects of “whiteness” represented at BYU. The document further cited the author of “White Fragility”, Robin DeAngelo, to define “whiteness” as “specific dimensions of racism that serve to elevate white people over people of color.”

Several days after the story was posted, the site was inundated with comments accusing the author of posting private intellectual property.

Shortly after, Dr. Eric Bybee privately messaged the Chronicle and demanded the post be taken down. He likewise accused the authors of stealing Dr. Lopez’s intellectual property and engaging in “targeted harassment” before assuring that he is committed to pursuing “appropriate consequences” against those responsible.

He threatened to report several conservative students and activists on campus—including several who do not even write for the paper—to the university’s Honor Code office administration for disciplinary action (The names of the students have been blurred at their request).

<a href="https://honorcode.byu.edu/about-us" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Honor Code Office</a> is tasked with enforcing the university’s code of conduct. Those found in violation may face academic discipline or—in extreme cases—expulsion from BYU.

Upon review of the Honor Code by the Professor Watchlist Team, t<a href="https://catalog.byu.edu/policy/academic-honesty">here appears to be no rule against the posting of an assignment</a>.

While the office ultimately chose to not investigate, the author of the story eventually edited the sections of the report that included Dr. Lopez’s course due to the nature of the threat. Dr. Leana Wen is a <a href="https://publichealth.gwu.edu/departments/health-policy-and-management/leana-wen-md-msc_faaem" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Research Professor of Health Policy and Management</a> at George Washington University. In addition to teaching, Dr. Wen is an emergency department medical doctor and a CNN Medical Analyst. She is also an op-ed columnist for a few different publications, and previously she was the President of Planned Parenthood - a tenure that lasted only eight months.

Over the last year and a half, the focus of Dr. Wen’s research and interest has been on COVID-19. She <a href="https://www.cnn.com/videos/tv/2021/05/01/how-can-u-s-solve-problem-of-vaccine-hesitancy.cnn" target="_blank" rel="noopener">often speaks on the subject for CNN</a> and other news outlets such as the Washington Post and the New York Times. In a video clip recently released by CNN, Dr. Wen compared unvaccinated Americans to drunk drivers. You can watch the clip below:

In <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/09/09/bidens-six-step-covid-strategy-does-not-go-far-enough-compel-vaccinations/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=wp_opinions&amp;utm_source=twitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an article published by the Washington Post</a>, Dr. Wen alleges that President Biden’s six-pronged strategy for COVID vaccination doesn’t go far enough. In her opinion, he is not doing enough to compel the unvaccinated to get vaccinated, and he needs to do even more. She argues that “the administration can and must go much further.”

One of her many complaints is that President Biden has not mandated vaccinations for plane and train travel. Dr. Wen believes the government should use its power to implement this mandate in order to “make it clear that there are consequences to remaining unvaccinated.” Dr. Wen alleges that travel is a privilege, not a right.

Dr. Wen is a huge proponent of vaccine passports. She notes that Israel and the European Union have vaccine verification methods, and the United States should as well.

Dr. Wen also thinks that all children over 12 years old should be required to be vaccinated, and the COVID vaccine should be added to the other immunization requirements for children. Dr. Wen explains how she would convince parents to vaccinate their children <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9W7IJdig7w" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in this video</a>.

Dr. <a href="https://americanstudies.columbian.gwu.edu/elisabeth-anker" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elisabeth Anker</a> is an Associate Professor of American Studies and Political Science at  <a href="https://americanstudies.columbian.gwu.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">George Washington University</a> in Washington DC. The author of “<a href="https://www.dukeupress.edu/ugly-freedoms" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ugly Freedoms</a>,” Dr. Anker has described freedom as a “slippery concept” that upholds patriarchy, <a href="https://read.dukeupress.edu/books/book/2974/Ugly-Freedoms" target="_blank" rel="noopener">colonialism, ecological destruction, and white supremacy</a>.

In an article for the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC), Dr. Anker <a href="https://www.cbc.ca/radio/checkup/what-s-your-reaction-to-the-ottawa-standoff-and-the-border-blockades-1.6349636/why-the-word-freedom-is-such-a-useful-rallying-cry-for-protesters-1.6349865" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vilifies right-wing and conservative groups who utilize “freedom” as their rallying cry to remove COVID-19 restrictions</a>. Her comments were published just as the Canadian government began cracking down on the “Freedom Convoy” by using emergency police powers.

The Freedom Convoy was organized in the winter of 2022 to protest the <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/01/29/trucker-freedom-convoy-set-to-protest-justin-trudeaus-vaccine-mandates/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Canadian government's enforcement of a vaccination mandate for truckers</a>. Participants parked their trucks in downtown Ottawa and halted traffic for weeks in front of the Canadian Parliament. Elsewhere, <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2022/02/08/freedom-convoy-supporters-block-traffic-canadas-busiest-border-crossing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">truck drivers blocked vital points of entry on the US-Canadian border</a>.

After several weeks, the city police began <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/canadian-police-seize-fuel-trucker-covid-protest-court-silences-horns-rcna15294" target="_blank" rel="noopener">seizing fuel and other supplies</a> from the convoy. The crowdfunding site, “GoFundMe,” <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/ottawa-police-admit-to-lobbying-gofundme-to-withhold-funds-from-canadian-truckers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pulled a donation page from the truckers at the request of the Ottawa Police</a>. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau authorized the use of the “Emergencies Act” which grants the Canadian government extrajudicial powers in breaking up the blockade.

The <a href="https://www.theblaze.com/news/freedom-convoy-trucker-protests-organizers-arrested" target="_blank" rel="noopener">organizers of the protest were soon arrested</a> and <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-freedom-convoy-organizer-tamara-lich-denied-bail?utm_campaign=64483" target="_blank" rel="noopener">held without bail</a>. Individuals who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-trudeau-announces-unprecedented-action-freezing-bank-accounts-of-freedom-convoy-protesters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">participated or donated to the convoy soon found their bank accounts frozen</a>. As police moved to clear the site of the protest, footage emerged of mounted units <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/woman-trampled-freedom-protest-indigenous-elder" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trampling demonstrators, including an elderly woman in a mobility scooter</a>. Additional footage shows <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/video-rebel-news-journalist-assaulted-injured-by-police-at-freedom-convoy-protest-rebel-news-were-suing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">police injuring reporters</a> and <a href="https://townhall.com/tipsheet/juliorosas/2022/02/18/ottawa-police-threatens-media-with-arrest-amid-crackdown-on-trucker-protests-n2603491" target="_blank" rel="noopener">threatening others with arrest for covering the protest.</a>

In the days leading up to the crackdown, Dr. Anker described the protests as a “violent” form of freedom and accused the “far-right” of abusing liberties to oppose equity.

“On the far right, [individual freedom] is often translated into somebody who refuses to be bound by norms of equality, treating all people equally or norms to remedy inequality, whether that’s trying to remedy racial discrimination or gender discrimination.”

She further laments how Canadians take advantage of the concept of freedom as a “national entitlement,” just as Americans do.

“It's been taking a lot of people by surprise to see people in Canada, who often seem so much more accepting of social interdependence, to start pushing back against it with the language of individual freedom.”

In a previous article for the New York Times—titled, “<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20220204102257/https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/04/opinion/ugly-freedom-discrimination-racism-sexism.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Exploitation of ‘Freedom’ in America</a>,”—Dr. Anker condemns Americans who cite their “ugly freedoms” to remove mask mandates and prohibit abortions.

“Each of these actions used the language of freedom to justify anti-democratic politics. These, then, are what I call “ugly freedoms”: used to block the teaching of certain ideas, diminish employees' ability to have power in the workplace, and undermine public health.

“These are not merely misunderstood freedoms, or even just a cynical use of the language of freedom to frame bigoted policies. They manifest, instead, a particular interpretation of freedom that is not expansive, but exclusionary and coercive.”

She goes on to write that the “long history of ugly freedoms” includes justifications for slavery, marital abuse, and segregation; freedoms in America, she argues, have suppressed “nonwhites, women, and workers,” and have been used to justify white supremacy.

As of publication, the Canadian Parliament has just voted <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/canadian-parliament-votes-to-extend-emergencies-act-for-30-days/#slide-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">to extend the Emergencies Act</a>. The Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, Chrystia Freeland, has indicated that certain emergency powers will remain permanent.

Dr. <a href="https://bellarmine.lmu.edu/yoga/people/faculty/?expert=chris.miller2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Christopher Jain Miller</a> is the Bhagwan Mallinath Assistant Professor of Jainism and Yoga Studies at <a href="https://mission.lmu.edu/mission/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Loyola Marymount University</a>, a Jesuit University located in Los Angeles, California. In a course-wide email sent to his students, Dr. Miller threatened to reduce the grade of any student that did not announce their pronouns.

In the email—obtained by the Twitter handle, <a href="https://twitter.com/libsoftiktok" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Libs of Tik Tok</a>—Dr. Miller informs students that they are required to list their preferred gender pronouns when submitting their next assignment. He further warns that failure to do so will result in a reduction of their grade.

“I added a new syllabus to Brightspace and the one major change we all need to take note of is that all are required to include their pronouns next to their name in their blog posts. I will count this toward your grade when I check for your name each time I grade the blogs.”

Dr. Miller then instructs a student to read an article linked in the same tweet. The URL leads to the web page, “Pronouns Matter.” The site itself lists resources that specifically <a href="https://www.mypronouns.org/inclusivelanguage" target="_blank" rel="noopener">instruct users on how to use activists' preferred pronouns</a>.

Under the, “<a href="https://www.mypronouns.org/what-and-why" target="_blank" rel="noopener">What and Why</a>,” section, the page explicitly describes the failure to use preferred pronouns as harmful and harassing to trans and non-binary persons.

“The act of making an assumption (even if correct) sends a potentially harmful message...it can be offensive or harassing to guess at someone’s pronouns and refer to them using those pronouns if that is not how that person wants to be known.”  

The web page<a href="https://www.mypronouns.org/inclusivelanguage" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> further urges students to use more “inclusive” language by refraining from using terms like, “ladies and gentlemen,” or, “boys and girls.”</a>

According to Dr. Miller's biography, his classes include, “Foundations of Yoga Studies”, “History of Modern Yoga” and, “Hinduism, Jainism, and Yoga.”

The Professor Watchlist team reached out to Dr. Miller for comment, but have not received a reply by publication.

Dr. <a href="https://facstaff.elon.edu/msquire/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Megan Squire</a> is a Professor of Computer Science at <a href="https://www.elon.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elon University</a> in North Carolina. Professor Squire primarily researches the application of data science techniques to understand “<a href="https://facstaff.elon.edu/msquire/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">niche and extremist online communities, particularly radical right-wing groups on social media</a>”, according to her university biography.
Dr. Squire’s biography further states that she has discussed her work on “numerous media outlets.” Those listed on her profile include <a href="https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2021/01/january-6-protests/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mother Jones</a>, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-or-war-how-the-capitol-mob-mobilized-on-social-media-11610069778" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Wall Street Journal</a>, and the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/08/technology/dlive-capitol-mob.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a>. The biography also lists her as a Senior Fellow for Data Analytics at the <a href="https://www.splcenter.org/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw1PSDBhDbARIsAPeTqrds2_QifoTQNEigacYteOjjceEp6PgvIhokk5QP2onVJzkOCb08DzAaAs31EALw_wcB" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Southern Poverty Law Center</a> (SPLC) and the head of the Technical Research Unit at the <a href="https://www.radicalrightanalysis.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center for Analysis of the Radical Right</a> (CARR).
In a study—titled, &#8220;Network Text, and Image Analysis of Anti-Muslim Groups on Facebook,&#8221;—Squire defines Islamaphobia, anti-Muslim bias, as “indiscriminate negative attitudes, hostility” or bias against Islam as a religion and against Muslims in the same <a href="https://webscience-journal.net/webscience/article/view/77" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study</a>.  The paper also lists various “ideologies” that Squire claims exhibit an anti-Muslim bias.
Dr. Squire <a href="https://webscience-journal.net/webscience/article/view/77" target="_blank" rel="noopener">states </a>that Islamophobia attitudes and “overt acts of hate” are increasingly common in a study, titled Network, Text, Image Analysis of Anti-Muslim Groups on Facebook, published in the <a href="https://webscience-journal.net/webscience" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Journal of Web Science</a>. She claims that the purpose of her paper is to “begin to understand how anti-muslim political groups use the Facebook social network to build their online communities and perpetuate their beliefs.” She further states that her research can be used by platform providers to “confront and condemn” what she describes as “anti-Muslim bias.”

These include the organization <a href="https://www.actforamerica.org/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw1PSDBhDbARIsAPeTqre5a3P6bxjCOD-Bf9waIKM88enR4UVL80lAsurEk4lzEvocfIKcvPkaAlzIEALw_wcB" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ACT! 4 America</a>, activists <a href="https://www.actforamerica.org/aboutbrigitte" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bridgette Gabriel</a> and <a href="https://www.horowitzfreedomcenter.org/david-horowitz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">David Horowitz</a>, individuals described as border guards/patrols, the <a href="https://cis.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center for Immigration Studies</a>, and “extreme traditional constitutionalism.” Squire lists the same organizations and individuals alongside Klu Klux Klan and White Nationalist Organizations in the study.

Her connection to ANTIFA is documented in an article for Wired Magazine, titled Meet Antifa’s Secret Weapon Against Far-Right Extremism. Squire is “sympathetic” to ANTIFA’s goals and refuses to condemn the group’s violent tactics according to the article. Wired further states that Squire uses her connections with ANTIFA to send data to groups like Redneck Revolt.
Redneck Revolt describes itself as a “national network community defense organization” that focuses on “class liberation” according to the group’s <a href="https://www.redneckrevolt.org/about" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a>. Dr. <a href="https://facstaff.elon.edu/msquire/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Megan Squire</a> is a Professor of Computer Science at <a href="https://www.elon.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elon University</a> in North Carolina. Professor Squire primarily researches the application of data science techniques to understand “<a href="https://facstaff.elon.edu/msquire/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">niche and extremist online communities, particularly radical right-wing groups on social media</a>”, according to her university biography.

Dr. Squire’s biography further states that she has discussed her work on “numerous media outlets.” Those listed on her profile include <a href="https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2021/01/january-6-protests/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mother Jones</a>, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-or-war-how-the-capitol-mob-mobilized-on-social-media-11610069778" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Wall Street Journal</a>, and the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/08/technology/dlive-capitol-mob.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a>. The biography also lists her as a Senior Fellow for Data Analytics at the <a href="https://www.splcenter.org/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw1PSDBhDbARIsAPeTqrds2_QifoTQNEigacYteOjjceEp6PgvIhokk5QP2onVJzkOCb08DzAaAs31EALw_wcB" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Southern Poverty Law Center</a> (SPLC) and the head of the Technical Research Unit at the <a href="https://www.radicalrightanalysis.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center for Analysis of the Radical Right</a> (CARR).

In a study—titled, "Network Text, and Image Analysis of Anti-Muslim Groups on Facebook,"—Squire defines Islamaphobia, anti-Muslim bias, as “indiscriminate negative attitudes, hostility” or bias against Islam as a religion and against Muslims in the same <a href="https://webscience-journal.net/webscience/article/view/77" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study</a>.  The paper also lists various “ideologies” that Squire claims exhibit an anti-Muslim bias.

Dr. Squire <a href="https://webscience-journal.net/webscience/article/view/77" target="_blank" rel="noopener">states </a>that Islamophobia attitudes and “overt acts of hate” are increasingly common in a study, titled Network, Text, Image Analysis of Anti-Muslim Groups on Facebook, published in the <a href="https://webscience-journal.net/webscience" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Journal of Web Science</a>. She claims that the purpose of her paper is to “begin to understand how anti-muslim political groups use the Facebook social network to build their online communities and perpetuate their beliefs.” She further states that her research can be used by platform providers to “confront and condemn” what she describes as “anti-Muslim bias.”

As <a href="http://www.campusreform.org/?ID=6690">reported</a> by Campus Reform, Caplan compares Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign to the rise of Adolf Hitler.

In the weeks following Donald Trump’s <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/donald-trump-announces-2016-presidential-campaign-make-country/story?id=31799741">announcement</a> that he would seek the 2016 Republican nomination, Caplan writes in <a href="https://www.poynter.org/reporting-editing/2015/commentary-the-danger-of-laughing-at-donald-trump/">Poynter, </a> a non-profit journalism and research center, that news organizations must hold Trump and the Republican party accountable “for the damage [Trump] does.” Caplan characterizes Trump’s views as racist and legitimizing of those American citizens who fear changing demographics.

While acknowledging that he views Trump’s chances as winning the nomination for the presidency unlikely, Kaplan draws parallels between Trump's campaign and the unexpected rise of Hitler in Germany.

Caplan further states in the same article that Trump is dangerous and that his speech is a classic ploy to generate fear and sow divisiveness.  Caplan urges journalists to treat more seriously the “danger” that Trump poses. Caplan accuses Trump of characterizing Mexicans as being criminals, rapists, and carrying diseases. Caplan says that these characterizations are similar to the rhetorical tactics used by the Nazi party against the Jews.

Despite his comparisons of Trump to Hitler, Caplan <a href="http://www.bioethics.net/2005/07/misusing-the-nazi-analogy/">argued</a> against the use of Nazi analogies to describe other people or political movements. In an article for bioethics.net, Caplan <a href="http://www.bioethics.net/2005/07/misusing-the-nazi-analogy/">states</a> that often those who draw analogies in arguments to Nazis, “do not know what they are talking about.”

<a href="http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/faculty/Mark_Crispin_Miller">Dr. Mark Crispin Miller</a>, a professor at New York University warned that President Bush was spreading propaganda in order to form a theocracy in the United States. He also compared Bush to Hitler, saying “All the major war-drives in modern history... in Germany, in the Soviet Union, and in the Middle East -- have been impelled by people who believed that they were at risk, that they were being persecuted, that they faced annihilation. Hitler actually believed that 'world Jewry' threatened Germany, and that his bloody enterprise was a means of self-defense against the Jews. We know all too well that al-Qaeda's people universally regard the Jews and Christians as plotting to wipe out Islam. And the Christo-fascist types now in control of the United States believe that they're the victims of non-Christians."

<a href="https://as.nyu.edu/content/nyu-as/as/faculty/ulrich-c-baer.html">Dr. Ulrich Baer</a> is a Professor of Comparative Literature at New York University. He wrote an editorial in the New York Times supporting the suppression of free speech on college campuses. He claimed "The idea of freedom of speech does not mean a blanket permission to say anything anybody thinks. It means balancing the inherent value of a given view with the obligation to ensure that other members of a given community can participate in discourse as fully recognized members of that community."

<a href="https://gallatin.nyu.edu/people/faculty/amh20.html">Amin Husain</a> is a part-time faculty member at New York University and the Pratt Institute. According to the university’s website, Husain’s work focuses on “resistance and liberation, movement generated theory and practice.”

Husain is also confounded and directs the NYC-based activist group, “<a href="https://decolonizethisplace.org/">Decolonize This Place</a>” (DTP).  According to their website, DTP events center around “Indigenous Struggle, Black Liberation, Free Palestine, Global Wage Workers, and De-Gentrification.”

Husain and DTP are known for their extreme rhetoric and aggressive confrontations with law enforcement. Husain and DTP utilize ANTIFA style-tactics during protests. The <a href="https://decolonizethisplace.org/">homepage</a> of DTP regularly features videos of burning police vehicles.

Prior to the Museum of Natural History’s decision to remove their statue of Theodore Roosevelt, Husain joined a chorus of activists demanding that the statue be removed. DTP itself <a href="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5c5e0c57d86cc9226827c754/t/5ee7ad184833d0007a2078fd/1592241433767/How+To+Take+Down+A+Monument_Poster.jpg">posted</a> a detailed graphic with instructions on toppling statues.

In January, DTP posted the following graphic for an upcoming <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=14391">protest</a> against the NYP. The damage from the protests led by Husain resulted in 13 arrests and over $100,000 in <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/02/15/nyu-professor-founded-anarchist-group-that-attacked-subways-last-month/">damages</a> to the NYC subway system.

As a member of NYC Solidarity With Palestine, Husain is known for using his position to entwine his anti-police and anti-Israel views. Husain projected his radicalism at the June “No To Annexation” rally, hosted by the anti-Israel group <a href="https://www.wolpalestine.com/about">Within Our Lifetimes</a>. Husain can be seen telling the crowd that police "are our enemy" in a video captured by the Middle-East watchdog the <a href="https://www.memri.org/tv/no-to-annexation-anti-israel-rally-abolish-police-israel-american-government-death-to-america">Middle East Research Institute</a>.

Her <a href="https://as.nyu.edu/content/nyu-as/as/faculty/ruth-ben-ghiat.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">professional biography lists her as an expert on fascism, authoritarianism, war, propaganda, and Donald Trump.</a> She is the author of the book, “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Strongmen-Mussolini-Present-Ruth-Ben-Ghiat/dp/1324001542" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Strongman: From Mussolini to the Present</a>,” and frequently makes appearances on CNN and MSNBC.

Dr. Ben-Ghiat frequently criticizes conservatives, characterizing them as violent and an outright threat to democracy. She additionally alleges that supporters of the second-amendment birthed a culture that directly resulted in the January 6th “insurrection.”

In an article for CNN—titled, “Parental control is a smokescreen tactic for right-wing activists”—Dr. Ben-Ghiat <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/14/opinions/parental-control-smoke-screen-right-wing-activists-ben-ghiat/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denounces parents who object to COVID-19 restrictions in schools</a>.

She is referring to <a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/orange-county-parents-protest-vaccine-mandates-at-school-board-meeting/ar-AAPZFid" target="_blank" rel="noopener">nation-wide protests occurring at county and district school boards</a>. Peaking during the Fall 2021 semester, parents with <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/education/2021/11/03/virginia-parents-democrats-crt-transgender-policies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">school-age children are vocally objecting to mandatory masking, COVID-19 vaccinations, and curriculum containing elements of critical race theory.</a> The epicenter of protests against county school boards stemmed from Loudon County, which saw Board Members <a href="https://nypost.com/2021/10/27/loudoun-county-parents-demand-resignations-over-sexual-assault/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allegedly participate in a cover-up of a sexual assault in a local high school.</a>

Dr. Ben-Ghiat describes these parents as elements of the “authoritarian culture” that is eroding democracy. She specifically cites their opposition to mandatory masking and vaccination of children, alleging it stems from a “Q-Anon” belief.

She states that “anti-vaccine militants” and “white-christian evangelicals” are using “parental rights” as a smokescreen to abolish private education. She decries parents allegedly “censoring” books that would teach children about the “centrality of racism and slavery” to this country’s founding. She further criticizes calls for parental control in education, describing it as the installation of “authoritarian culture” in towns and local school boards.

In a separate article for the Washington Post—titled,”<a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2021/10/26/gun-violence-authoritarianism-normalization/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">America’s Gun Culture is Priming Us for Authoritarianism</a>,”—Dr. Ben-Ghiat alleges the Capitol Riots are the inevitable result of an armed citizenry.

She is referring to the incident surrounding January 6, 2021 at the Capital <a href="https://www.npr.org/2021/02/09/965472049/the-capitol-siege-the-arrested-and-their-stories" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in which a number of protestors breached the Capitol’s Doors during certification of the 2020 Presidential Election</a>, some violently so. Despite claims to the contrary, even the FBI has determined that <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/fbi-confirms-there-was-no-insurrection-on-january-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">no evidence exists that any rioters coordinated to commit an “insurrection.</a>”

Dr. Ben-Ghiat alleges that general access to lethal weapons enables “mass death” and a “democratic decline” in America. She bizarrely connects the January 6th “insurrection” to civilian ownership of firearms, alleging the later enables “mass death” and desensitizes others to human life.

Dr. Ben-Ghiat further alleges that gun owners are willing to harm others in exchange for their freedoms, alleging that no loss of life seems to deter them:

Dr. William (Bill) Gibson is a <a href="https://www.vwu.edu/marlin-directory.php?person=0000206" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chair and Professor of Political Science</a> at Virginia Wesleyan University. His areas of interest include environmental policy, nature resources management, and intergovernmental relations. The courses Dr. Gibson teaches include Conflict Management, Urban Politics, and Public Administration. In 2013, Dr. Gibson co-authored a book titled, “<a href="https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-case-for-grassroots-collaboration-john-charles-morris/1115393897" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Case for Grassroots Collaboration: Social Capital and Ecosystem Restoration at the Local Level</a>.”
In February of 2021, Dr. Gibson found himself in hot water amongst conservatives when an <a href="https://www.yaf.org/news/vwu-professor-attacks-conservatives-in-internal-email-i-am-sickened-examine-your-conscience/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inflammatory email leaked to Young America’s Foundation</a>. In the email, Dr. Gibson resigned from his role as a chapter advisor for a conservative student group on campus. The email showed his true hatred of conservatives. It can be viewed in its entirety below.

In the email, Dr. Gibson accuses conservatives of being compulsive liars and engaging in tribalism behaviors. He writes, “I am sickened. I have had it; I’m over it. You will have to find another faculty advisor for your group.” Dr. Gibson goes on to call conservatives a disgrace and illegitimate. He closes out the email by stating, “each of you should take a break and examine your conscience.”
According to Young America’s Foundation, the university did not comment as to whether or not they discussed the email with Dr. Gibson. As of Fall 2021, it does not appear that Dr. Gibson faced any consequences for his accusatory email to the conservative club.  It also looks like he is still teaching at the university.

In 2013, Dr. Gibson co-authored a book titled, “<a href="https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-case-for-grassroots-collaboration-john-charles-morris/1115393897" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Case for Grassroots Collaboration: Social Capital and Ecosystem Restoration at the Local Level</a>.”

In February of 2021, Dr. Gibson found himself in hot water amongst conservatives when an <a href="https://www.yaf.org/news/vwu-professor-attacks-conservatives-in-internal-email-i-am-sickened-examine-your-conscience/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inflammatory email leaked to Young America’s Foundation</a>. In the email, Dr. Gibson resigned from his role as a chapter advisor for a conservative student group on campus. The email showed his true hatred of conservatives. It can be viewed in its entirety below.

In the email, Dr. Gibson accuses conservatives of being compulsive liars and engaging in tribalism behaviors. He writes, “I am sickened. I have had it; I’m over it. You will have to find another faculty advisor for your group.” Dr. Gibson goes on to call conservatives a disgrace and illegitimate. He closes out the email by stating, “each of you should take a break and examine your conscience.”

According to Young America’s Foundation, the university did not comment as to whether or not they discussed the email with Dr. Gibson. As of Fall 2021, it does not appear that Dr. Gibson faced any consequences for his accusatory email to the conservative club.  It also looks like he is still teaching at the university.

Following receiving tenure from Ole Miss, James proceeded to refer to conservative teens as akin to the Hitler Youth:

<a href="https://miamioh.edu/cas/academics/departments/history/about/faculty/emeriti-faculty/thurston/index.html">Dr. Robert Thurston</a> is a Professor Emeritus of History at <a href="https://miamioh.edu/index.html">Miami University</a> in Ohio. Dr. Thurston has spent his career defending Soviet Dictator Joseph Stalin, and the Soviet Union (USSR).
BACKGROUND
Joseph Stalin’s dictatorial reign of the Soviet Union led to the death of between <a href="https://www.ibtimes.com/how-many-people-did-joseph-stalin-kill-1111789">20-40 million people through execution, starvation, and deportation</a>. Political dissidents, academics, artists, and even members of the Communist Party were often the targets of mass arrests and forced disappearances.
The most notorious repression—referred to as The Great Purge–occurred between 1936 and 1941. It is estimated that <a href="https://www.warhistoryonline.com/world-war-ii/10-facts-stalins-great-purge.html">Joseph Stalin executed or arrested over one million people</a> to eliminate potential party rivals and consolidate his grip over the USSR. Victims were often arrested or tortured into “confessing,” and then executed or deported to labor camps known as “gulags.”
At the gulags’ largest extent, as much as <a href="https://fee.org/articles/the-economic-necessity-of-alexander-solzhenitsyn/">15 percent of the Soviet population was imprisoned</a> and branded as “class enemies.” Prisoners were used as slave labor and millions were worked to death in sub-zero, inhumane conditions.
The most well-known victim of Stalin&#8217;s purges was <a href="https://www.britannica.com/biography/Aleksandr-Solzhenitsyn">Noble Laureate, Alexandr Solzhenitsyn</a>. Arrested for criticizing Stalin in private correspondence, Solzhenitsyn was sentenced to 8 years of hard labor and then internal exile.
Solzhenitsyn’s 1962 literary work titled “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich” was inspired by his time serving in the gulag. “The Gulag Archipelago,” published in three volumes between 1972 and 1975, is a memoir documenting the human rights violations that occurred in the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin. Solzhenitsyn was quickly attacked by the Soviet press, and in 1975 was stripped of his citizenship and forcibly deported for his work. He spent the next 20 years living in exile–mostly in the United States– before returning to Russia in 1994.
DEFENDING A DICTATOR 
In a letter published in the Fall 1980 edition of Foreign Affairs Magazine, <a href="https://www.jstor.org/stable/20040662?read-now=1&amp;seq=2#metadata_info_tab_contents">Dr. Thurston openly criticizes Solzhenitsyn and questions his knowledge of the Soviet Union</a>. He writes that as a Westerner visiting the Soviet Union, he did not witness the “constraints” that Solzhenitsyn had described. The letter praises the USSR for the “material progress” made since the Russian Revolution. Dr. Thurston goes so far as to claim that Solzhenitsyn is “no better in touch with the Soviet Union than he is with the Russian past.”
In 1986, Dr. Thurston would further author another paper, titled, <a href="https://www.jstor.org/stable/2499175?read-now=1&amp;refreqid=excelsior%3A0fbc9e7942e61f685511d2ddd3a2fcc8&amp;seq=22#page_scan_tab_contents">“Fear and Belief in the USSR’s ‘Great Terror’”: Response to Arrest.”</a> He claims that Stalin actually enjoyed widespread support despite his documented purges.
Stating that Stalin never attempted to instill fear through mass arrests and deportations during The Great Purge, Dr. Thurston bizarrely claims fear of being arrested was not widespread in the Soviet Union.
In 1998, Dr. Thurston published a book titled “<a href="https://yalebooks.yale.edu/book/9780300074420/life-and-terror-stalins-russia-1934-1941">Life and Terror in Stalin’s Russia</a>,” defending Joseph Stalin&#8217;s actions during his reign. Dr. Thurston claims that the death toll under Stalin has been greatly exaggerated and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1996/05/05/books/dark-prince-of-the-kremlin.html">the dictator is not guilty of murdering his own citizens.</a>

<a href="http://www.brooklyn.cuny.edu/web/academics/faculty/faculty_profile.jsp?faculty=441">Laurie Rubel</a> is a professor of Secondary Education at Brooklyn College in New York. According to her university biography, Rubel’s research is focused on equity in mathematics education and the use of real-world urban contexts in the teaching of mathematics.
Much of Rubel’s work is devoted to contending that white supremacy is embedded in many aspects of this country and everyday life &#8211; from the nation’s founding, to dislike of the WNBA.

Rubel’s views drew <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=15409">wide-spread attention</a> after she suggested in a <a href="https://twitter.com/Laurie_Rubel/status/1290554158421073920">tweet</a> that teaching that math “reeks” of white supremacy.

Her tweet was not designed to be hyperbolic in any sense. Rubel believes that white supremacy is firmly ingrained in subjects like math, and regularly reinforced in the classroom. As the co-author of <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/331982850_The_Soft_Bigotry_of_Low_Expectations_And_Its_Role_in_Maintaining_White_Supremacy_through_Mathematics_Education">The Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations</a>, Rubel posits that white people have developed a racial and structural advantage in education that is consistently maintained through the teaching of mathematics. She believes that concepts like suggesting America is a meritocracy, or the idea that individuals are rewarded for hard work are inherently racist towards black students. White supremacy is no more evident, she claims, than through the ideas of “meritocracy” and “color blindness”:
“&#8230;the rhetoric of meritocracy implies that success results from hard work or talent and is not a function of the myriad of institutional structures that mediate opportunities and distribute rewards according to race and social background.”    
“Colorblindness, or the avoidance of or denial of signifying students&#8217; races in curriculum, classrooms, and schools, ignores the causes and impact of enduring racial stratification.”  
Rubel’s central thesis is that both “tools of whiteness” and subjects like math effectively disenfranchise students of color. Her argument is that racial disparities in students&#8217; scores are not because of behavior, but due to systematic racism and society’s tendency to attribute poor performance to the former, and resultant refusal to latter, reinforces a system of oppression.
As if anticipating the forthcoming criticism, she alleges that critiques of her position are emblematic of racism itself. Rubel states that her critics are “blame shifting” and attempting to ignore blatant white supremacy,
“One way that white supremacists counter critiques of racism is through a tactic known as “blame-shifting.” This tactic is a self-defense maneuver in which the white supremacists defend themselves against the charge of racism by shifting that charge onto the critique itself.” 
Commenting on Twitter, she claimed that she was a victim of “white-nationalists” criticizing her views.

While taking a soon apparent shot at our nation’s borders, she further elaborates on this by employing queer theory in, “<a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/340000097_Queering_Mathematics_Disrupting_Binary_Oppositions_in_Mathematics_Pre-service_Teacher_Education">Queering Mathematics</a>.”  <a href="https://www.oxfordreference.com/view/10.1093/oi/authority.20110803100358573">Queer theory</a> is an outgrowth of critical race theory, that seeks to deconstruct traditional standards of sexuality and gender in the West.
Rubel states that queer theory can be used to deconstruct or “queer” borders that both exist between countries and within classrooms and mathematics, as both are the “site of physical, social, and cultural marginalization.” To Rubel, one example of a border is the genders assigned to students,
“Conventional borders around sex, gender, and sexuality maintain these forms of marginalization and oppression that often leads to violence in schools.”
In addition to racism, she claims that toxic masculinity is inherent in mathematics, rendering it inaccessible for women:
“The masculinization of mathematics can be understood as an exclusionary border for girls and women&#8230;because to choose to participate in mathematics means to be comfortable and to welcome participating and performing in a masculine space.”
Rational and objective thinking are derided as purely “masculine” as well. The reliance on “binary thinking” (or what is right or wrong) that is inherent in mathematics is claimed by Rubel to reinforce “borders,” between race and gender.
In order to deconstruct math and its borders, Rubel advocates “queering” math to address more social justice issues. She hopes by dismantling math, the subject will be moved away from concepts like the existence of “only one right answer” and towards more subjective “lived experiences” of students.
Rubel is very open about communicating her politics in the classroom, as it is evidenced by her tweets admitting so. When asked in a tweet what her optimal classrooms look like, Rubel revealed that she lectures her students that police regularly execute black Americans while on duty.

Rubel has written extensively on using the classroom to push political ends. In an academic paper titled, “<a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/336769522_Classrooms_as_Laboratories_of_Democracy_for_Social_Transformation_The_Role_of_Data_Literacy">Classrooms as Laboratories of Democracy for Social Transformation</a>,” she asserts that classrooms can be used to imbed left-wing issues into her students:
“&#8230;we outlined where data literacy is part of a collective movement toward transformation and social change.” 
Another aspect of Rubel’s envisioned social transformation is the redefining of words that she disapproves of.

<a href="http://www.brooklyn.cuny.edu/web/academics/faculty/faculty_profile.jsp?faculty=441">Laurie Rubel</a> is a professor of Secondary Education at Brooklyn College in New York. According to her university biography, Rubel’s research is focused on equity in mathematics education and the use of real-world urban contexts in the teaching of mathematics.

Much of Rubel’s work is devoted to contending that white supremacy is embedded in many aspects of this country and everyday life - from the nation’s founding, to dislike of the WNBA.

Rubel’s views drew <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=15409">wide-spread attention</a> after she suggested in a <a href="https://twitter.com/Laurie_Rubel/status/1290554158421073920">tweet</a> that teaching that math “reeks” of white supremacy.

Her tweet was not designed to be hyperbolic in any sense. Rubel believes that white supremacy is firmly ingrained in subjects like math, and regularly reinforced in the classroom. As the co-author of <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/331982850_The_Soft_Bigotry_of_Low_Expectations_And_Its_Role_in_Maintaining_White_Supremacy_through_Mathematics_Education">The Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations</a>, Rubel posits that white people have developed a racial and structural advantage in education that is consistently maintained through the teaching of mathematics. She believes that concepts like suggesting America is a meritocracy, or the idea that individuals are rewarded for hard work are inherently racist towards black students. White supremacy is no more evident, she claims, than through the ideas of “meritocracy” and “color blindness”:

“...the rhetoric of meritocracy implies that success results from hard work or talent and is not a function of the myriad of institutional structures that mediate opportunities and distribute rewards according to race and social background.”    

“Colorblindness, or the avoidance of or denial of signifying students' races in curriculum, classrooms, and schools, ignores the causes and impact of enduring racial stratification.”  

Rubel’s central thesis is that both “tools of whiteness” and subjects like math effectively disenfranchise students of color. Her argument is that racial disparities in students' scores are not because of behavior, but due to systematic racism and society’s tendency to attribute poor performance to the former, and resultant refusal to latter, reinforces a system of oppression.

As if anticipating the forthcoming criticism, she alleges that critiques of her position are emblematic of racism itself. Rubel states that her critics are “blame shifting” and attempting to ignore blatant white supremacy,

“One way that white supremacists counter critiques of racism is through a tactic known as “blame-shifting.” This tactic is a self-defense maneuver in which the white supremacists defend themselves against the charge of racism by shifting that charge onto the critique itself.” 

Commenting on Twitter, she claimed that she was a victim of “white-nationalists” criticizing her views.

While taking a soon apparent shot at our nation’s borders, she further elaborates on this by employing queer theory in, “<a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/340000097_Queering_Mathematics_Disrupting_Binary_Oppositions_in_Mathematics_Pre-service_Teacher_Education">Queering Mathematics</a>.”  <a href="https://www.oxfordreference.com/view/10.1093/oi/authority.20110803100358573">Queer theory</a> is an outgrowth of critical race theory, that seeks to deconstruct traditional standards of sexuality and gender in the West.

Rubel states that queer theory can be used to deconstruct or “queer” borders that both exist between countries and within classrooms and mathematics, as both are the “site of physical, social, and cultural marginalization.” To Rubel, one example of a border is the genders assigned to students,

“Conventional borders around sex, gender, and sexuality maintain these forms of marginalization and oppression that often leads to violence in schools.”

In addition to racism, she claims that toxic masculinity is inherent in mathematics, rendering it inaccessible for women:

“The masculinization of mathematics can be understood as an exclusionary border for girls and women...because to choose to participate in mathematics means to be comfortable and to welcome participating and performing in a masculine space.”

Rational and objective thinking are derided as purely “masculine” as well. The reliance on “binary thinking” (or what is right or wrong) that is inherent in mathematics is claimed by Rubel to reinforce “borders,” between race and gender.

In order to deconstruct math and its borders, Rubel advocates “queering” math to address more social justice issues. She hopes by dismantling math, the subject will be moved away from concepts like the existence of “only one right answer” and towards more subjective “lived experiences” of students.

Rubel is very open about communicating her politics in the classroom, as it is evidenced by her tweets admitting so. When asked in a tweet what her optimal classrooms look like, Rubel revealed that she lectures her students that police regularly execute black Americans while on duty.

Rubel has written extensively on using the classroom to push political ends. In an academic paper titled, “<a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/336769522_Classrooms_as_Laboratories_of_Democracy_for_Social_Transformation_The_Role_of_Data_Literacy">Classrooms as Laboratories of Democracy for Social Transformation</a>,” she asserts that classrooms can be used to imbed left-wing issues into her students:

“...we outlined where data literacy is part of a collective movement toward transformation and social change.” 

Another aspect of Rubel’s envisioned social transformation is the redefining of words that she disapproves of.

Alex Vitale is a <a href="https://www.brooklyn.cuny.edu/web/news/faculty-experts/vitale-alex.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Professor of Sociology</a> and Coordinator of the Policing and Social Justice Project at the University of Brooklyn in New York City. His areas of expertise include sociology, policing, public safety, crime, and alternatives to incarceration. He has also penned two books and often writes for publications such as The New York Times, Daily News, and USA Today.

A subject Dr. Vitale discusses often is his disdain for the police. In March of 2020, Dr. Vitale <a href="https://www.hks.harvard.edu/centers/wiener/programs/criminaljustice/news-events/reimagining8-alex-vitale" target="_blank" rel="noopener">delivered a speech at Harvard Kennedy School </a>about the benefits of abolishing police departments. In his lecture, he accuses the institution of policing of being systemically racist. He alleges that public education and free drug treatment will combat the war on drugs better than the police. In his opinion, these things will “actually reduce the harm of drugs… in a way that is directly the opposite of turning the problem over to police.”

Dr. Vitale has tweeted several times about the thin blue line flag. He argues that the flag is racist and a sign of white supremacy. Some of these tweets are included below:

In <a href="https://newrepublic.com/article/144646/trump-already-wall-its-thin-blue-line" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an article published by The New Republic</a>, Dr. Vitale continues to discuss his anti-police rhetoric, and he also shares a dislike for conservatives. According to Dr. Vitale, “Policing represents a deeply conservative view of the nature of the state… the only appropriate role for the state is a repressive one, to use punitive mechanisms to coerce people into proper behavior.” He goes on to state that, “The reality is that the police exist primarily as a system for managing and even producing inequality by suppressing social movements and tightly managing the behaviors of poor and nonwhite people: those on the losing end of economic and political arrangements.”

Dr. Vitale has also taken to Twitter to speak negatively on white Americans. <a href="https://twitter.com/avitale/status/1059869990948614145" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In one tweet</a>, Dr. Vitale recommended that for four years only black women should be able to vote, as “white men had their go at it.” In another tweet, he shares a podcast he enjoys along with the statement, “I don't think we can over-estimate the role of patriarchy in shaping right wing extremism. It's not just about white supremacy.”

During the workshop, she discussed how particular students are emboldened to be overly racist in the classroom, both in-person and through their writing. She said that while some teachers may be afraid to tell students they can’t say something in class, teachers absolutely have the right to tell students to be quiet and stop talking.

Labeling the administration’s <a href="https://www.meforum.org/campus-watch/20132/uc-berkeley-and-the-islamophobia-lobby">use of drones to eliminate terrorists as Islamaphobic</a>—or what he termed as “racialization from above—he asked, “What happens when Islamophobia takes to the skies?”
Feldman compared the death of Osama bin Laden to a Jim Crow-era lynching. As he was describing his killing as the “residue of late nineteenth-century colonial settler violence,” Feldman <a href="https://www.meforum.org/campus-watch/20132/uc-berkeley-and-the-islamophobia-lobby">displayed a black lynching victim in the background to serve as an analogy to his death.</a>

Joy Reid–host of The Reid Out on MSNBC– is a Hearst Visiting Professor at Howard University in Washington DC. Reid is known to launch into partisan diatribes during broadcasts and regularly uses her platform to berate conservatives.
During the riots in the summer of 2020 following the death of George Floyd, Reid has claimed there is “<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzPloMpG2EM&amp;ab_channel=MSNBC">zero evidence</a>” that any of the destruction was connected to the movement. She has claimed that when there was any violence, it was inflicted by “<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzPloMpG2EM&amp;ab_channel=MSNBC">white supremacists</a>” and Trump supporters.
It is reported that there was a <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/09/16/study-up-to-95-percent-of-2020-u-s-riots-are-linked-to-black-lives-matter/">significant presence</a> by BLM activists at over 95% of the riots during the summer of 2020, resulting in at least 47 deaths and over <a href="https://fee.org/articles/george-floyd-riots-caused-record-setting-2-billion-in-damage-new-report-says-here-s-why-the-true-cost-is-even-higher/#:~:text=Only%20now%20are%20we%20beginning,%241%20billion%20to%20%242%20billion.">2 billion</a> in damages.
Reid has <a href="https://news.yahoo.com/msnbc-joy-reid-labels-justice-150310965.html">referred to Justice Clarence Thomas as “Uncle Clarence,”</a> a reference to the racial epithet “Uncle Tom” when discussing his court rulings.
Following the <a href="https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/james-hodgkinson-shooting-republicans-baseball-game">2017 congressional baseball shooting</a>, Reid and her guest <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGQEdDySUVI&amp;ab_channel=MSNBC">mocked the victims for holding insufficiently liberal positions</a>. She accused Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise of racism while he was fighting for his life after the attack.
In 2018, blog posts were unearthed from Reid’s old website that contained inflammatory language, bigoted statements, and<a href="https://nypost.com/2018/05/31/joy-reid-reportedly-once-touted-notorious-9-11-conspiracy-film/"> links to conspiracies that accused the United States government of plotting the 9/11 terror attacks</a>. <a href="https://nypost.com/2018/04/24/msnbc-stars-lame-excuse-after-homophobic-remarks-surface/?_ga=2.40761378.1834013034.1527547273-216432594.1517259352">Reid alleged that many members of Congress were secretly gay</a>, and <a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/msnbc-host-joy-reid-criticized-jews-ariel-sharon-in-old-blog-posts/">openly mocked Jews</a>.
Once the blog was unearthed and began receiving media attention, Reid initially acknowledged that she had written the posts and apologized for her “bigoted remarks.” However, once additional posts surfaced, Reid reversed her position and claimed that she had never written the blog posts to begin with. Reid claimed on national television that <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/am-joy/watch/watch-msnbc-s-joy-reid-address-offensive-blog-posts-1221485635964">she “genuinely does not believe that“ she wrote the posts</a> and alleged that her blog was hacked. Nikole Hannah-Jones is the inaugural Knight Chair of Race and Reporting at Howard University in Washington D.C.
Hannah-Jones is best known as one of the primary authors of The 1619 Project. <a href="https://archive.org/details/1619project/full_issue_of_the_1619_project">Published in July of 2019 by The New York Times Magazine</a>, The 1619 Project is a series of reports and essays that purport to document the origins of and lingering effects of racism in America. The stated intent for the project is to establish 1619–the first year that slaves were brought to the British Colonies in America–as the true founding of the United States, rather than 1776. The project’s central thesis alleges that slavery and racism are the basis out of which the United States was created.<a href="https://pulitzercenter.org/blog/nikole-hannah-jones-wins-pulitzer-prize-1619-project"> Hannah-Jones was awarded The Pulitzer Prize</a> for her work on the project. Since its publication, The 1619 Project and its authors have faced a myriad of problems, including accusations of controversial hiring tactics, false claims, and shoddy research.
Hannah-Jones elicited controversy for the publication and retraction of false information in her articles and unearthed racially incendiary remarks.

<li>Shortly after the publication of the report, Hannah-Jones admitted that <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/18/reader-center/1619-project-slavery-jamestown.html">hiring almost exclusively black staff was a “non-negotiable”</a> aspect when beginning to work on the 1619 issue of The New York Times Magazine.</li>
<li>One of Hannah-Jones’ central claims—“that one of the primary reasons the colonists decided to declare their independence from Britain was because they wanted to protect the institution of slavery”—<a href="https://nypost.com/2020/03/14/new-york-times-corrects-the-1619-project-but-its-still-a-giant-lie/">was retracted by the paper in early 2020</a>.</li>
<li>In January 2020, <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/01/inclusive-case-1776-not-1619/604435/">numerous historians, scholars, and commentators—both conservatives and socialists</a>— as cited by The Atlantic, criticized The New York Times and The 1619 Project for publishing false information about American history and slavery.</li>
<li>In October 2020, <a href="https://www.nas.org/blogs/article/pulitzer-board-must-revoke-nikole-hannah-jones-prize">accomplished professors and intellectuals penned an open letter</a> calling on “the Pulitzer Prize Board to rescind the 2020 Prize for Commentary awarded to Nikole Hannah-Jones for her lead essay in The 1619 Project” because “&#8230; the article itself was false when written, making a large claim that protecting the institution of slavery was a primary motive for the American Revolution, a claim for which there is simply no evidence.”</li>

Bret Stephens, a columnist for The New York Times and colleague of Hannah-Jones,<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20201105003122/https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/09/opinion/nyt-1619-project-criticisms.html"> rebuffed the 1619 Project,</a> writing in October 2020 that “Journalists are, most often, in the business of writing the first rough draft of history, not trying to have the last word on it. We are best when we try to tell truths with a lowercase t, following evidence in directions unseen, not the capital-T truth of a pre-established narrative in which inconvenient facts get discarded.”
By late 2020, both Hannah-Jones’ claims and The 1619 Project as a whole began receiving scrutiny–<a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/01/inclusive-case-1776-not-1619/604435/">from both the Left and Right</a>–on a near-daily occurrence. Hannah-Jones attracted further scrutiny over a racially explicit op-ed that she had written as a student at Notre Dame University in 1996. <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/06/25/in-racist-screed-nyts-1619-project-founder-calls-white-race-barbaric-devils-bloodsuckers-no-different-than-hitler/">As reported by The Federalist</a>, Mrs. Hannah-Jones described white people as “bloodsuckers” and accused the white race of being the “biggest murderer, rapist, pillager, and thief, of the modern world.” She alleges in the same article that Africans arrived in the Americas “long before Columbus or any Europeans,” and that Christopher Columbus was “no different than Hitler.”
