<a href="https://barnard.edu/profiles/maria-rivera-maulucci" target="_blank" rel="noopener">María Rivera Maulucci</a> is the Ann Whitney Olin Professor of Education, Chair of the Education Program, and Director of the Barnard Noyce Teacher Scholars Program at Barnard College. According to Maulucci’s university profile, “Her interdisciplinary scholarship focuses on how teachers learn to teach for social justice and the role of language, identity, and emotions in teacher development.”
In an article for Barnard Magazine titled “<a href="https://barnard.edu/magazine/fall-2018/laboratory-inclusion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Laboratory of Inclusion</a>,” Maulucci described how she incorporates inclusion into her teaching:
“We talk about class and ethnicity and gender and language and race, and how those things impact the learner, and how to draw on them as assets rather than seeing these things as deficiencies.”
Maulucci participated in a Columbia University and Barnard College <a href="https://bwog.com/2024/04/student-workers-and-faculty-hold-walkouts-to-demand-amnesty-for-students-and-faculty/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faculty protest</a> titled “Rally to Support our Students and Reclaim our University” after student protesters took over the lawns of Columbia University in April 2024. The <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/04/23/us-news/columbia-professors-slammed-over-grotesque-rally-that-publicly-backed-ivy-league-schools-anti-israel-protests/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Post</a> reported, “Scores of professors and staff appeared on the school’s steps to support the right of the ‘Gaza Solidarity Encampment’ to take over campus space and denounce the administration’s decision to have protesters arrested.”
Maulucci <a href="https://www.columbiaspectator.com/news/2024/04/23/over-100-faculty-members-protest-in-rally-to-support-our-students-and-reclaim-our-university/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spoke at the walkout</a>, as seen below, saying:
“From the beginning of this crisis, our educational leaders have failed to provide balanced and caring messaging that acknowledges the real grief of our students and faculty on all sides of this issue.”

After assuring students that the faculty members “stand with you,” Maulucci demanded the university apologize to the students they suspended:
“We demand the following: an immediate apology and amnesty for all students that have been suspended. An immediate rollback of University and college rules that restrict the time, place, and manner of assembly and freedom of expression.”

<a href="https://barnard.edu/profiles/ben-philippe" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mr. Ben Philippe</a> is a term Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Film Studies at <a href="https://barnard.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Barnard College</a>. In a broadcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Mr. Philippe described his fantasy in which he writes about enthusiastically participating in a race war.

Mr. Philippe was being interviewed about his latest book, <a href="http://benphilippe.com/books/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Sure I’ll Be Your Black Friend.</a>” During the segment, CBC host Ms. Talia Schlanger reads aloud a <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/barnard-college-instructor-discusses-blowing-up-and-gassing-whites-in-coming-race-war/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">portion of the book in which Mr. Philippe writes about gassing and blowing up his white friends</a>.

The clip begins with Ms. Schlanger describing how she was “shocked” and “disturbed” by Mr. Philippe’s book, before proceeding to read the following passage,

After finishing, Ms. Schlanger reveals to Mr. Philippe that she is Jewish and has grandparents that survived the Holocaust. Continuing, she offers an apology to Mr. Philippe, stating, “I’m so sorry that your experience with the world made you feel that way.”

Earlier in the interview, Mr. Philippe described the original passage as “so much longer” before it was cut by the book’s editor and was revised down to the portion now in the book. He then attributes his urge to write about a hypothetical race war to “advanced world-building” caused by his admiration of the game, “Dungeons and Dragons.”

Mr. Philippe states that a race war is inevitable and the book merely describes the only logical outcome to America’s political and social instability. Mr. Philippe then rushes to assure the host that he is “not a violent person” and “loves all his white friends.”

Despite being a CBC featured interview, as of September 2021,<a href="https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-50-q/clip/15839413-author-ben-philippe-chronicles-lifetime-black-friend" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> the podcast no longer appears on the CBC’s site</a> and appears to have been removed.

She attended a “White Privilege Conference” and said that she would be “down” with the idea of “kicking out capitalism” as she believes it causes racism. Baran describes herself as a “vulgar Marxist” because she desires “to see the entire dismantling of the system versus the other, softer, kinder, brutal Marxists.”

<a href="https://uwm.edu/english/our-people/jay-gregory/">Dr. Gregory Jay</a> is a Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Jay calls for the "abolition of whiteness." He even compares "whiteness" to the whale in the literary classic, Moby Dick. Jay claims that saying "white trash" is also racist because it suggests that regular trash is black.

<a href="https://www.strose.edu/faculty-bio/john-pickering/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jack Pickering</a> is a Professor and Speech-Language Pathologist at The College of Saint Rose. He is also the <a href="https://www.sage.edu/academics/schools/health-sciences/speech-language-center/">Director</a> of The Gender-Affirming Voice Program at Russell Sage College. A similar program was in place at The College of Saint Rose. However, that program has been canceled, according to <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/new-gender-affirming-voice-course-teaches-college-students-sneeze-cough-like-opposite-sex/25614">Campus Reform</a>.
Under the direction of Pickering, Russell Sage College is offering a program that is designed to help students modify their voices to match their assumed gender identities. The program begins during the spring semester of 2025.
“The Gender-Affirming Voice Program at Russell Sage is for gender-diverse individuals who seek to modify their voices to match their identities. Starting in the spring semester 2025, the program will take place on a weeknight on our Albany campus.”Those who run the program will also “attend to behaviors such as coughing, sneezing, and throat-clearing.” The rationale for the program is, allegedly, “because these [vocal actions] often affect listener perception of gender.” The webpage for the program states that the program will allow “participants to explore aspects of voice, like pitch, inflection, resonance, articulation, and loudness.”
According to the program webpage, “the voice program includes a variety of activities,” including:

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“Check in and mindfulness”</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“Vocal warm up”</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“Small group activities that promote the exploration of voice and communication”</li>

</ul>
The course will consist of ten two-hour sessions throughout the semester. 
Jane Gottlieb writes about Pickering’s work in an <a href="https://www.strose.edu/2021/06/24/communication-sciences-and-disorders-professor-jack-pickering-seeking-the-authentic-voice/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> for The College of Saint Rose titled “Communication Sciences and Disorders Professor Jack Pickering: Seeking the authentic voice.” The article begins with the following statement:
“Years before discussions about transgender rights were common, Communication Sciences and Disorders Professor Jack Pickering understood the need for people to speak in the voice of the gender that reflected who they were.”
Pickering believes his work in helping “transgender individuals” adjust their biological vocal tones to the other sex is the most important work of his career: 
“This is the most important clinical work I’ve done. It’s fascinating, and it satisfies the mechanic in me, the artist in me, and the human in me.”

<a href="https://www.sienaheights.edu/staff-view/?id=7817483" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leland Harper</a> is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Siena Heights University and the founder of <a href="https://www.lharperconsulting.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leland Harper Consulting</a>, a firm that brands itself as offering “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Solutions for the Modern Hospitality Industry.”
In 2021, Siena Heights University <a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=23603" target="_blank" rel="noopener">received a federal grant</a> of $34,905 from the National Endowment for the Humanities. With this grant, Siena Heights worked to “design a new, coherent D&amp;I certificate program at SHU that is qualitatively distinct from the D&amp;I certificates offered at other institutions.”
The university’s certificate program consists of three JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) courses and is led by professor Leland Harper. The course description for <a href="https://catalog.sienaheights.edu/preview_course_nopop.php?catoid=9&amp;coid=15627" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JEDI 101</a>—Introduction to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion—reads:
“Students will be introduced to topics including but not limited to racism, sexism, ageism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and xenophobia through readings drawn from classical and contemporary sources in history, philosophy, literature, and business. Course material will emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.”
Professor Harper explained to <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/siena-heights-university-creates-new-jedi-certificate-with-taxpayer-dollars/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The College Fix</a> via email how SHU’s program is different from other DEI initiatives:
“While many [other DEI programs] provide useful information, each of them focuses primarily on compliance. To me, this is the bare minimum that we should be doing &#8211; we should not just be trying to comply, and there is more that needs to be said about how and why we can foster ideas of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in our society.” 
Harper said the “most exciting aspect” of the certificate program is <a href="https://catalog.sienaheights.edu/preview_course_nopop.php?catoid=9&amp;coid=15629" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JEDI 480</a>, because “students will be placed at an external organization in their field to work with an on-site supervisor for approximately ten weeks to identify and address one or more organizational issues related to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.”
In 2022, Harper co-authored a book with University of Colorado, Colorado Springs professor Jennifer Kling titled “<a href="https://rowman.com/ISBN/9781793640420/Racist-Not-Racist-Antiracist-Language-and-the-Dynamic-Disaster-of-American-Racism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Racist, Not Racist, Antiracist</a>: Language and the Dynamic Disaster of American Racism.” The book discusses how situations are categorized as either racist, not racist, or antiracist. The authors argue this is a problem because there is no language to describe situations that could be considered in-between. The description states:
“This is especially true for white people, who tend to take claims of racism—be they interpersonal or institutional—as a personal attack. This is problematic, not only because it means that white people never learn about their own racially troubling behaviors, but also because such fragility keeps them from being able to engage in productive discussions about systemic racial oppression.”

Leland Harper

<a href="https://sllc.umd.edu/directory/jose-magro" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jose L. Magro</a> is a Lecturer at the School of Languages, Literatures, &amp; Cultures at the University of Maryland. His research interests are listed as applied linguistics and critical race theory.  
In an interview with, <a href="https://dbknews.com/2022/11/21/umd-spanish-professors-add-anti-racism-curriculum/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Diamondback</a>, Margo explained that he incorporates anti-racism into his curriculum. He stated this is part of an attempt to put an end to the “colonized learning” that takes place at the university. 
His comments were delivered following a presentation titled, “<a href="https://arhu.umd.edu/events/antiracist-pedagogy-spanish-language-teaching-theory-practice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Antiracist Pedagogy for Spanish Language Teaching: From Theory to Practice</a>,” which featured six Spanish and Portuguese teachers and the anti-racist materials from their classrooms. 
A fellow professor, <a href="https://www.professorwatchlist.org/professor/tatianachimiranda" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tatiana Chi-Miranda</a>, admitted that although her Spanish language classes focus on grammar and composition, the modules are used to discuss racism and phobias:

In the introduction, she said:
“Strong views dictate the ages at which one can consent to sexual activity, or marry, or transact in sexual services … Sexual age laws are complex matters largely because they are meant to signal social standards for sexual maturity. Age is usually a blunt metric for measuring such maturity … Like legal standards on other sexual practices, such as same-gender marriage and widow remarriage, the age of marriage has come to serve as an index of moral hierarchies among nations.” 
In an <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCNIVtu_hv0&amp;t=147s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview with CGTN America</a>, Tambe discussed “rape culture” and levels of sexual violence among men. At one point, she appeared to suggest that women may play a role in these assaults, stating:
“I think the problem is also not one that is exclusive to men. Actually, I think people in general — women, mothers, mothers-in-law — do enforce certain ideas about what it means to be honorable, what it means to be respectable, notions of how to conduct oneself in public that are actually a part of the problem. So, I would also argue that we shouldn’t just be pointing fingers at men.”

<a href="http://www.medschool.umaryland.edu/profiles/Younus-Faheem/">Dr. Faheem Younus</a> is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Maryland. Dr. Younus became infamous for his comments on social media regarding the Charleston shooting. He blamed the shooting on former sniper Chris Kyle as well as Fox News, for creating a 'culture' that encourages mass shooting.

<a href="https://merrill.umd.edu/directory/deneen-brown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DeNeen Brown</a> is an Associate Professor of Journalism at the University of Maryland who has vowed to leave America over systemic racism and oppression.

In a Washington Post op-ed—titled, “<a href="https://archive.ph/Kxlhi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Case for Leaving America to Escape Racism</a>”—Dr. Brown reveals that she grew up in the black power movement as she “never really felt at home in America." She then recounts an alleged racial incident in elementary school in which she describes her white classmates as “oppressors” and vows never to internalize their racism.

This would later inspire her work as a journalist to document racism and Black people whom she claims still suffer under “economic, political, and cultural oppression.” This is reflected in another article in which Dr. Brown alleges that <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/08/08/modern-day-mississippi-lynchings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">racially-motivated lynchings are a regular occurrence, but provides no evidence to verify her claims</a>.

Dr. Brown explains she began looking for a new place to live abroad after state legislators across the county banned teaching critical race theory in schools. Further citing her concern over the eruption of “racist terror” embodied by January 6th “insurrectionists,” Dr. Brown expresses a desire to live in a country without “entrenched racism” where she has the freedom “to move among people who look like me.”

Dr. Brown further expresses a desire to live in a place where she will not have to discuss her nation’s racism. In a previous Washington Post op-ed, she lamented how<a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/06/17/black-people-are-tired-trying-explain-racism/?itid=ap_deneenl.brown" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> black people at large are “exhausted” over explaining racism to white people</a>. In separate tweets, she further explains the burden of racism must be placed at the feet of white society and urges others to study radicals like Che Guevara to learn how to do so.

During an interview with <a href="https://dbknews.com/2022/11/21/umd-spanish-professors-add-anti-racism-curriculum/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Diamondback</a>, Chi-Miranda explained how she incorporates anti-racism into her curriculum. Although her Spanish language classes focus on grammar and composition, she admitted the modules are used to discuss racism and phobias:

Chi-Miranda provided one module to The Diamondback in which her students pretend to dislike diversity. She said this was an example of xenophobia  and recited the following line:  

“I don’t want you to make friends with other cultures nor do I want you to enjoy the diversity of the world.” 

A sophomore who was interviewed by Diamondback  praised the initiative, stating that American schools have a “whitewashed curriculum:” 

“I think that’s really important because America has a tendency to leave out certain parts of history in their textbooks and teach a very whitewashed curriculum, so it is really important that Maryland and these professors are acknowledging that we have kind of neglected several important parts of history.”

Chi-Miranda’s comments were delivered in an article featuring six Spanish professors who also integrated anti-racist themes into their courses. One professor, Jose Magro, stated this is part of an attempt to put an end to the “colonized learning” that takes place at the university.

According to her university profile, Orr studies misinformation, and disinformation, and how each contributes to “online extremism.”

In a substack article titled, “<a href="https://weaponizedspaces.substack.com/p/violent-extremism-in-america-is-a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Violent extremism in America is a far-right phenomenon</a>,” she writes that attacks by right-wing groups are “surging” and outpace left-wing and Islamist violence. Orr further claims that any who suggest otherwise are attempting to distract from the burgeoning connections between extremists and mainstream conservative groups:  

“Violent extremism is overwhelmingly a problem of far-right extremism, not far-left extremism, and it doesn’t help anyone to misrepresent the threat by turning it into a “both sides” issue when the sides are not even close to equal.”

Elsewhere, not only does Orr dismiss the existence of left-wing violence, she attempts to excuse it. In a separate article, titled “<a href="https://medium.com/arc-digital/in-defense-of-antifa-62c699d86dc5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In Defense of Antifa</a>,” she condemns conservatives for attempting to “vilify” the group:

“It’s easy to see why far-right extremists have worked so hard to vilify antifascists, who represent the most consistent opponents of far-right extremism and the most steadfast allies of those targeted by far-right violence.”

At first, Orr denies the existence of Antifa in her article, describing the group only as a “collection of tactics and philosophies.” She then pivots and praises Antifa for their “quieter activities” such as “research, monitoring, and surveillance of far-right extremist groups, community organizing, and advocating for historically marginalized populations.” Orr claims this is needed to stop “white supremacist” groups from organizing. 

Writing that activists must be intolerant of violent or bigoted speech, Orr claims that direct action is necessary to prevent the far-right from organizing. Comparing Antifa to Jews who resisted Nazi occupation, Orr argues that when violence from Antifa occurs, it's committed in the name of “self-defense:” 

“...consider the possibility that some violence is a regrettable but unavoidable part of preventing much greater violence by fascists.”

The Professor Watchlist team reached out to Orr for comment prior to publication. Instead of responding, Orr posted the inquiry on her personal Twitter account and accused the author of committing libel.

<a href="https://www.ssw.umaryland.edu/content/people/name-627864-en.html?&amp;" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Christabel Cheung </a>is an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Her expertise and interests include “Psychosocial Oncology,” “Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA)” and “Health Equity.”

On March 15, 2023, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/professor-arguing-cancer-research-not-antiracist-comment-enough-christabel-cheung" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News featured</a> Cheung in an article titled “Professor argues cancer research not antiracist enough, offers antiracist approaches to patient engagement.” Fox reported, “Cheung’s presentation, ‘Antiracist Patient Engagement in Adolescent &amp; Young Adult Oncology Research and Advocacy,’ cited much of <a href="https://www.ibramxkendi.com/bio">Ibram X. Kendi</a>, the architect of antiracist ideology.”

Fox also said, “Cheung based her definition of antiracism through the lens of Kendi’s work, maintaining the notion that ‘there is no such thing as not being racist…the heartbeat of racism domestically in the United States has been a denial of racism, and the sound of that heartbeat has been the argument, ‘I’m not a racist.’”

<a href="https://youtu.be/AHknFfJHcMQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">During the presentation</a>, Cheung further stated: 

“[Kendi] wants us [and] encourages us to take on the perspective that we’re either being antiracist—where we’re promoting equality—or we’re being racist in the sense of working within systems. [You’re] either being complicit or actually supporting racist approaches.” 

In November 2022, <a href="https://ascopost.com/issues/november-10-2022/how-to-advance-antiracist-approaches-to-patient-engagement-in-aya-oncology-and-research/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The ASCO Post</a> featured Cheung in a publication where she also discussed the advancement of antiracist patient engagement with AYA. 

ASCO Post said Cheung “challenges researchers to make progress in engaging [BIPOC] AYAs in clinical studies to close the gaps in knowledge about racial and ethnic minority AYA patients and reduce disparities in their cancer outcomes.”

In response to ASCO’s question “how prevalent is racism in AYA clinical care and research [and] how is it manifested in this patient population?” Cheung said:

“The impact of systemic racism in medicine does not appear to manifest differently by age and starts from the design of the clinical trial. Implicit bias and systemic racism are woven into the fabric of the society we live in. Consequently, we all have some measure of implicit bias or unconscious prejudice that we bring to our work and must make extra efforts to address.”

She further declared,

“Antiracist policies call upon AYA oncology to depersonalize reactions to racism, acknowledge mistakes, and take corrective actions in a timely manner. We can dismantle and reorganize long-established systems in the development and testing of clinical trials, so racism does not continue to persist within these systems.”

According to her faculty profile, Fish is a “human development and family science scholar whose research focuses on the positive development and health of LGBTQ+ people and their families.” 

Fish is also the director of UMD’s Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Health Research Group (SOGI Health). SOGI Health’s <a href="https://sph.umd.edu/research-impact/laboratories-projects-and-programs/sexual-orientation-gender-identity-and-health-sogi-health-research-group" target="_blank" rel="noopener">main page</a> says, “The research group convenes faculty, students, and community partners in an effort to better understand and support the positive development and health of LGBTQ young people.”

In January 2022, Fish <a href="https://www.srcd.org/research/gender-affirming-policies-support-transgender-and-gender-diverse-youths-health">co-authored a report</a> titled “Gender-Affirming Policies Support Transgender and Gender Diverse Youth’s Health.” In the opening paragraph, Fish, et al. stated:
“Transgender and gender diverse youth (i.e., children and adolescents whose gender identity and/or expression differs from their sex assigned at birth) are more likely to experience poor health than their peers whose gender identity aligns with their assigned sex at birth (i.e., cisgender youth) due to stigma and marginalization.”
Fish, et al. goes on to say:
“58% of [transgender youth] also report having been prevented from using bathrooms that align with their gender identity…states and schools can implement policies that protect [transgender youth] from these harmful experiences…Ultimately, [transgender youth] show more positive outcomes in school environments that implement and enforce policies and practices that affirm youth’s gender identity and protect them from discrimination.”
Fish’s <a href="https://twitter.com/DrJessicaNFish" target="_blank" rel="noopener">social media profile</a> and newsfeed are dedicated to LGBTQ ideologies and her work with the UMD Prevention Research Center. The Center’s <a href="https://sph.umd.edu/research-impact/research-centers/university-maryland-prevention-research-center/umd-prc-about-us" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“About Us” page</a> says, “In collaboration with LGBTQ+ partner organizations, we promote evidence-based training of students and mental health care providers in culturally sensitive and inclusive practices.”

In May 2020, Ray co-authored a <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/care-act-caste-act-jesse-jackson-rainbow-coalition-1502605" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Newsweek op-ed</a> titled “The CARES Act Risks Becoming a Caste Act. Here’s How We Change That” to highlight an alleged disproportionate amount of black Americans affected by the pandemic. Ray et al. wrote:
“Black people are over three times more likely to die from COVID-19 than other racial groups…While everyone in America is facing hardships, these hardships collide on the bodies of black Americans in ways that are more substantial and longer lasting.’’
Ray et al. concluded by stating:
“To date, the United States has spent over $3 trillion on COVID-19 relief. Similar to the end of the Civil War and The Great Depression, the most oppressed and vulnerable Americans—black Americans—are being cast to the side and used as guinea pigs.”
In October 2023, Ray was featured in <a href="https://pittnews.com/article/183483/news/rashawn-ray-discusses-policing-implicit-bias-at-africana-studies-event/#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Pitt News</a> after participating in a webinar titled “Rotten Trees: Racism and Bad Apples in American Policing.” Ray was quoted saying, “‘Implicit bias is deeply embedded in organizational culture and leads to structurally imposed racial disparities.”

The Pitt goes on to emphasize Ray’s claims that “studies and statistics demonstrate how policing disproportionately affects black people” and that “approximately 70,000 of all people stopped by police in 2011 were black, 56% of these stops involved frisks and only about 2% of stops led to the discovery of contraband…” Ray further claimed, “These statistics are about ‘blackness’ not compliance.”

In light of Ray’s beliefs and rhetoric, the U.S. Department of Justice released a <a href="https://bjs.ojp.gov/content/pub/pdf/cbpp18st.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revised 2018 report</a> highlighting the following statistics:

<a href="https://history.umd.edu/directory/david-freund" target="_blank" rel="noopener">David Freund</a> is an Associate Professor of History and an Affiliate Associate Professor of American Studies at the University of Maryland (UMD). 

Freund has authored several publications including “Colored Property: State Policy &amp; White Racial Politics in Suburban America”—<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Colored-Property-Politics-Suburban-Historical/dp/0226262766/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1ZCGIPIR168HC&amp;keywords=colored+property+david+freund&amp;qid=1699309383&amp;sprefix=colored+property+david+freund%2Caps%2C119&amp;sr=8-1&amp;asin=0226262766&amp;revisionId=&amp;format=4&amp;depth=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a book that examines</a> the racialization of housing developments and property rights. In the chapter titled The New Politics of Race and Property, he wrote:
“There is, nonetheless, considerable disagreement about the role that race per se played in fueling white vigilance. Many argue that while black people were clearly the targets of exclusionary practices, racism played little or no part in whites’ decision-making…
“The disagreement about postwar whites’ motivations is rooted, I argue here, in a conceptual assumption that informs most studies of racial conflict in the modern United States. Most commentaries treat white racism as something unchanging and as conceptually separate from other variables that fuel conflict between groups (including racial groups).”
In July 2023, Freund was featured in an <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/race-change-to-another-trend-online-rcna93759" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NBC News article</a> titled “Inside the online world of people who think they can change their race.” The publication discusses a Ukrainian-born American who “goes by the Japanese name Miyuki and listens to 'subliminals' that promise she will wake up and be Japanese.” 

NBC News further stated, “Freund…corroborates the idea that a ‘biological race’ does not exist [and] the modern concept of race is inseparable from the systemic racial hierarchy hundreds of years in the making. Simply put, changing races is not possible because ‘biological races’ themselves are not real.”

Freund also told NBC that “the idea of changing one’s race operates differently depending on a person’s racial background and that white people who seek to ‘transition’ to other races can often sidestep the harms of racism.”

Freund supports awarding reparations to black Americans as a form of government compensation for past offenses. He told <a href="https://www.voanews.com/a/usa_race-america_reparations-can-money-absolve-sins-past/6208006.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Voices of America</a>, “We can document systems, policies, also private practices that are constantly reproducing racial inequalities…[a]nd no one has been able to convince me otherwise.”

As the co-author of <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/331982850_The_Soft_Bigotry_of_Low_Expectations_And_Its_Role_in_Maintaining_White_Supremacy_through_Mathematics_Education">The Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations</a>, Rubel posits that white people have developed a racial and structural advantage in education that is consistently maintained through the teaching of mathematics. She believes that concepts like suggesting America is a meritocracy, or the idea that individuals are rewarded for hard work are inherently racist towards black students. White supremacy is no more evident, she claims, than through the ideas of “meritocracy” and “color blindness”:
“&#8230;the rhetoric of meritocracy implies that success results from hard work or talent and is not a function of the myriad of institutional structures that mediate opportunities and distribute rewards according to race and social background.”

Rubel states that queer theory can be used to deconstruct or “queer” borders that both exist between countries and within classrooms and mathematics, as both are the “site of physical, social, and cultural marginalization.” To Rubel, one example of a border is the genders assigned to students,
“Conventional borders around sex, gender, and sexuality maintain these forms of marginalization and oppression that often leads to violence in schools.”
In addition to racism, she claims that toxic masculinity is inherent in mathematics, rendering it inaccessible for women:
“The masculinization of mathematics can be understood as an exclusionary border for girls and women&#8230;because to choose to participate in mathematics means to be comfortable and to welcome participating and performing in a masculine space.”
Rational and objective thinking are derided as purely “masculine” as well. The reliance on “binary thinking” (or what is right or wrong) that is inherent in mathematics is claimed by Rubel to reinforce “borders,” between race and gender.
In order to deconstruct math and its borders, Rubel advocates “queering” math to address more social justice issues. She hopes by dismantling math, the subject will be moved away from concepts like the existence of “only one right answer” and towards more subjective “lived experiences” of students.

Alex Vitale is a <a href="https://www.brooklyn.cuny.edu/web/news/faculty-experts/vitale-alex.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Professor of Sociology</a> and Coordinator of the Policing and Social Justice Project at the University of Brooklyn in New York City. His areas of expertise include sociology, policing, public safety, crime, and alternatives to incarceration. He has also penned two books and often writes for publications such as The New York Times, Daily News, and USA Today.

A subject Dr. Vitale discusses often is his disdain for the police. In March of 2020, Dr. Vitale <a href="https://www.hks.harvard.edu/centers/wiener/programs/criminaljustice/news-events/reimagining8-alex-vitale" target="_blank" rel="noopener">delivered a speech at Harvard Kennedy School </a>about the benefits of abolishing police departments. In his lecture, he accuses the institution of policing of being systemically racist. He alleges that public education and free drug treatment will combat the war on drugs better than the police. In his opinion, these things will “actually reduce the harm of drugs… in a way that is directly the opposite of turning the problem over to police.”

Dr. Vitale has tweeted several times about the thin blue line flag. He argues that the flag is racist and a sign of white supremacy. Some of these tweets are included below:

In <a href="https://newrepublic.com/article/144646/trump-already-wall-its-thin-blue-line" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an article published by The New Republic</a>, Dr. Vitale continues to discuss his anti-police rhetoric, and he also shares a dislike for conservatives. According to Dr. Vitale, “Policing represents a deeply conservative view of the nature of the state… the only appropriate role for the state is a repressive one, to use punitive mechanisms to coerce people into proper behavior.” He goes on to state that, “The reality is that the police exist primarily as a system for managing and even producing inequality by suppressing social movements and tightly managing the behaviors of poor and nonwhite people: those on the losing end of economic and political arrangements.”

Dr. Vitale has also taken to Twitter to speak negatively on white Americans. <a href="https://twitter.com/avitale/status/1059869990948614145" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In one tweet</a>, Dr. Vitale recommended that for four years only black women should be able to vote, as “white men had their go at it.” In another tweet, he shares a podcast he enjoys along with the statement, “I don't think we can over-estimate the role of patriarchy in shaping right wing extremism. It's not just about white supremacy.”

In August 2023, Nash <a href="https://www.wfae.org/arts-culture/2023-08-30/with-goodbye-mary-molly-tuttle-extends-country-musics-lineage-of-reproductive-rights-songs-to-the-post-roe-era" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published an opinion editorial</a> titled, “With ‘Goodbye Mary,’ Molly Tuttle extends country music’s lineage of reproductive rights songs to the post-Roe era.” Nash writes:
“Jason Aldean’s song ‘Try That in a Small Town’ extols small towns as bastions of conservative values standing up against a litany of violent big-city bogeyman…As an American Studies professor who teaches courses on country music, I am interested in the genre’s competing ‘liberal’ lineage.”

Nash’s faculty biography states that his current research “focuses on historical and contemporary representations of abolitionism and enslavement.” 

His university profile contains a list of courses and descriptions include but are not limited to:

<a href="https://www.middlebury.edu/college/people/tara-affolter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tara Affolter</a> is an Associate Professor of Education Studies and the Faculty Director of Equity, Justice &amp; Inclusion at Middlebury College. According to her university profile, Affolter “has over 15 years of experience teaching high school English and theatre while working for racial and social justice within the public schools…” She also serves in Middlebury’s Academic Affairs, “Black Studies,” and Education Studies departments.

In the Fall of 2022, she taught a course titled “Teaching the 1619 Project” with the following description:
“In this course, we will explore various ways to approach teaching The 1619 Project and examine how the project pushes against miseducation within the U.S. education systems. We will also delve into various states’ bans against teaching the 1619 Project and scrutinize how CRT became wrapped in these bans.”

“This book rests on the premise that as a nation, the United States is far from post-racial. Critical race theorists put this best in arguing that racism is endemic in the United States and shapes all of our institutions…
“The disproportionate emphasis on communities of color, the rhetoric of deficit that frames these communities as lacking and parents as not caring, the often-dysfunctional relationship between white educations and students of color, all help to illustrate the ways in which race continues to disrupt meaningful education for all students.”

Affolter was featured in <a href="https://www.middleburycampus.com/article/2022/11/freedom-dreaming-imagines-an-anti-racist-middlebury-community" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Middlebury Campus</a> after the production of her stage play “Freedom Dreaming: Envisioning an Antiracist Middlebury.” The Middldlebury said, “Onstage, seven actors dressed in their everyday outfits as they read and acted out lines sewn together from interviews conducted with predominantly BIPOC [black, indigenous, people of color] students on campus.”

Affolter also partnered with Middlebury’s Student Government Association to lead a <a href="https://www.middleburycampus.com/article/2023/01/panel-discusses-implications-of-supreme-court-decision-on-affirmative-action-for-college-community" target="_blank" rel="noopener">research panel</a> to answer the question, “What would ending affirmative action mean for Middlebury.” Affolter is quoted saying that “student body diversity promotes cross-racial understanding and reduces prejudice, overall leading to more positive interethnic attitudes by the end of college.”

<a href="https://www.middlebury.edu/college/people/james-sanchez" target="_blank" rel="noopener">James Sanchez</a> is an Assistant Professor of Writing &amp; Rhetoric at Middlebury College. His research interests include “cultural and racial rhetorics, public memory and writing assessment.”

Sanchez teaches a course titled “Documentaries, Social Justice” and another course titled “Race, Rhetoric, and Protest.” The latter is described as a “study [of] the theoretical and rhetorical underpinnings of racial protest in America…from bus boycotts to Black Power protests…”

He writes in the introduction:
“The ‘purity in Grand Saline is within the race of its people, or rather, the whiteness of the town. I define the term whiteness here as ‘a socially constructed category that is normalized within a system of privilege so that it is taken for granted by those who benefit from it…’”
Later in the book he states:
“The town preserves its white culture not out of necessity for life but out of fear of a white cultural death, an unfounded fear that has existed within white communities for centuries.”

<a href="https://www.middlebury.edu/midddata/caitlin-myers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Caitlin Myers</a> is the John G. McCullough Professor of Economics at Middlebury College. According to her profile, she teaches statistics, regression analysis, and causal inference.

<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/unplanned-parenthood-professors-research-maps-out-post-roe-abortion-travel-destinations/23676" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform</a> featured Myers in an article titled “‘Unplanned Parenthood’ professor’s research maps out post-Roe abortion travel destinations.” The following map was included to show Myers’ cartography results.

According to Campus Reform, “[Myers] created the ‘Myers Abortion Facility Database,’ which displays how legal changes to abortion access affect the abortion rate, birth rate, and changes the number of available abortion centers.”

The source said Myers’ project, which launched in 2021, included data from clinics that performed abortions from 2009 through 2023.

Myers is also outspoken about her support for abortion on social media:

The source wrote, “When Myers is not teaching regression analysis or statistics … she engages with these issues in real-world contexts, gaining extensive experience as an expert witness and consultant for Planned Parenthood and the Center for Reproductive Rights … Myers’ abortion access dashboard has given her a platform to publish data that visually illustrates the causal effects of limiting access to reproductive care in the United States.”

<a href="https://www.middlebury.edu/institute/search?query=Kriner" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Matthew Kriner</a> is Managing Director of the Accelerationism Research Consortium (ARC), as well as the Director of Strategy, Partnerships and Intelligence at Middlebury’s Center on Terrorism, Extremism, and Counterterrorism (CTEC). (Note: as of publication, Kriner's faculty profile has been deleted).

In light of a gesture made by Elon Musk during the 47th Presidential Inauguration, Kriner wrote an <a href="https://theconversation.com/musks-inauguration-salute-is-not-the-only-apparent-fascist-signal-from-trumps-administration-248517">article</a> alleging a long-time connection between Nazism and conservatives in American politics. The title of the article is “Musk’s inauguration salute is not the only apparent fascist signal from Trump’s administration.”

Kriner wrote: 

“As a <a href="https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=e8ecZu8AAAAJ&amp;hl=en&amp;oi=ao" target="_blank" rel="noopener">scholar of far-right extremism</a>, I regularly review instances of coded fascist symbols and other right-wing messages being sent by public figures and their supporters, some more obvious than others.”

Kriner claimed the stage at the 2021 Conservative Political Action Conference was shaped in the fashion of an odal rune, which he describes as “an ancient pagan symbol coopted by Germany’s Nazi regime and worn prominently during World War II on the uniforms of the brutal <a href="https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/waffen-ss" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Waffen SS</a> units.”

In 2021, MyPillow Founder Mike Lindell discounted a pillow from $49.88 to $14.88, which, according to Kriner, is allegedly “aligned with the 14-word white supremacist slogan and the numerical reference ‘88’ that white supremacists use to mean ‘Heil Hitler’ because H is the eighth letter of the alphabet.”

At the article’s conclusion, Kriner claims these alleged coincidences of “fascism” and fascist symbolism with the American right-wing have a direct connection to Nazi Germany: 

“But as the old saying goes, ‘where there’s smoke there’s fire’ – and in this case the smoke is probably closer to a book-burning bonfire in Berlin than a tiki torch carried in Charlottesville.”

In a 2023 <a href="https://reason.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/DoevMiddleburyComplaint.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lawsuit</a>, Kriner, among other defendants ( several of whom worked with Middlebury College), was accused of labor trafficking and not compensating an independent contractor in the same field of research (terrorism studies) as Kriner. The plaintiff, called Jane Doe in the lawsuit, sued the defendants on 11 counts.  

The plaintiff was initially asked to help Kriner with research in accelerationism:

“Defendant Matthew Kriner introduced himself to Doe on social media. He described himself as a private sector analyst who worked on similar topics. He was interested to learn more about accelerationism because  of her singular expertise on the subject matter…Kriner also  increasingly needed non-public information into her proprietary research to pitch the threat to high-level government officials. Kriner told Doe it ‘would be good to get more granularity from you on it all if you can.’”

In several research articles written by Kriner and defendants, Doe was not given credit or pay for her contributions and involvement in their scholarly work. Yet, she was continually asked for research assistance on following projects, which led to the same outcome for her. Over time, this treatment from the defendants allegedly led to the dilapidation of the plaintiff’s mental health. 

Toward the end of the complaint, the following claim is made: 

“Doe will never be able to return to the workplace or attain a doctorate as she intended due to the severe psychological injuries and enduring trauma caused by the Defendants.”

The case was <a href="http://portal-dc.tylertech.cloud/app/RegisterOfActions/#/A9FD50059C1B644BC03C64C2FF6F0570B090735330CC39DCD734F240CC06C74B23EE8F70682458011D8D106B0687D14A17F9A84303016DAFE983B2CC10EFA67BE210A368F7474E9F156C97AB7474C6EB/anon/portalembed">closed</a> several times despite the plaintiff’s repeated attempts to reopen it. The latest attempt was made in May of 2024, which was denied by Judge Todd E. Edelman.

His <a href="https://msutexas.edu/academics/libarts/philosophy/faculty.php">university biography</a> states that his work centers around 19th and 20th century “radical” philosophies. Jun <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZT3dWQrSxU&amp;ab_channel=ADCSVideo">publically identifies as an anarchist</a> and has authored books such as <a href="https://www.amazon.com/New-Perspectives-Anarchism-Nathan-Jun/dp/0739132407">New Perspectives on Anarchism</a> and <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Without-Borders-Limits-Interdisciplinary-Anarchist/dp/1443847682">Without Border or Limits: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Anarchist Studies.</a>
In a now-<a href="https://www.texomashomepage.com/news/local-news/msu-releases-statement-after-controversial-professors-statements-on-facebook/?fbclid=IwAR1fLJ1lzZTroIbCNmtmuAEestxyuUWMvnTOYjnGbuwZ6_S9Sn3kCVnq1kQ">deleted Facebook post</a>, Jun stated that he hopes to, “see the world burn until the last cop is strangled.”

As<a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/dhs-leaked-email-confirms-that-antifa-is-an-organized-group"> reported</a> by The Post-Millennial, leaked emails from the Department of Homeland Security show that law enforcement agencies identify ANTIFA as an organization that engages in “organized” rather than sporadic violence. Many<a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/guns-knives-and-other-weapons-confiscated-from-suspects-at-portland-antifa-riot/"> members arm themselves with knives and firearms</a> to violently confront conservatives at events. In the Summer of 2021,<a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/us-attorneys-office-in-dc-refuses-to-investigate-attack-on-rand-paul/"> members of ANTIFA attacked Senator Rand Paul</a> and his wife as they walked through Washington D.C.

Nathan J. Jun is a philosophy professor at <a href="https://msutexas.edu/">Midwestern State University</a>. His <a href="https://msutexas.edu/academics/libarts/philosophy/faculty.php">university biography</a> states that his work centers around 19th and 20th century “radical” philosophies. Jun <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZT3dWQrSxU&amp;ab_channel=ADCSVideo">publically identifies as an anarchist</a> and has authored books such as <a href="https://www.amazon.com/New-Perspectives-Anarchism-Nathan-Jun/dp/0739132407">New Perspectives on Anarchism</a> and <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Without-Borders-Limits-Interdisciplinary-Anarchist/dp/1443847682">Without Border or Limits: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Anarchist Studies.</a>

In a now-<a href="https://www.texomashomepage.com/news/local-news/msu-releases-statement-after-controversial-professors-statements-on-facebook/?fbclid=IwAR1fLJ1lzZTroIbCNmtmuAEestxyuUWMvnTOYjnGbuwZ6_S9Sn3kCVnq1kQ">deleted Facebook post</a>, Jun stated that he hopes to, “see the world burn until the last cop is strangled.”

In the same segment, Jun can be seen at a Wichita Falls Black Lives Matter protest while wearing a shirt adorned with a black and red flag and lettering that reads "ANTIFASCIST ACTION", which is widely affiliated with the <a href="https://americanmind.org/post/antifa-national-security-threat/">left-wing extremist group ANTIFA.</a>

Many<a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/guns-knives-and-other-weapons-confiscated-from-suspects-at-portland-antifa-riot/"> members arm themselves with knives and firearms</a> to violently confront conservatives at events. Letiecq’s profile says she “[specializes] in the utilization of community-based participatory action research approaches, anti-racist research methods … and mixed method designs … in partnership with minoritized and marginalized families.”
On February 4, 2024, Letiecq <a href="https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/jomf.12971" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published an article </a>entitled “Theorizing [w]hite heteropatriarchal supremacy, marriage fundamentalism, and the mechanisms that maintain family inequality.” In the abstract, Letiecq states:
“Specifically, I theorize that marriage fundamentalism, like structural racism, is a key structuring element of White heteropatriarchal supremacy. Marriage fundamentalism can be understood as an ideological and cultural phenomenon, where adherents espouse the superiority of the two-parent married family. But it is also a hidden or unacknowledged structural mechanism of White heteropatriarchal family supremacy that is essential to the reproduction and maintenance of family inequality in the United States.”

<a href="https://www.prescott.edu/faculty-staff-directory/craig-willse">Craig Willse</a> is an associate faculty member of Social Environmental Arts Practice and Social Justice and Community Organizing at Prescott College in Arizona. Craig led faculty and administrators at George Mason University in protesting the renaming of its law school after Antonin Scalia and regularly engages in Anti-Israel protests.

Censorship 
In 2016, following an <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2016/04/05/politics/george-mason-university-antonin-scalia-law-school-name-change">announcement</a> from George Mason University that they would be renaming their law school after the recently deceased Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Willse, who <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/george-mason-university-professors-oppose-naming-law-school-after-antonin-n552501">according</a> to NBC, was then a cultural studies professor at  George Mason, led the protests by George Mason faculty and administration to oppose the decision. <a href="https://www.britannica.com/biography/Antonin-Scalia">Scalia </a>had served on the Supreme Court 30 years and was known for his  “originalism,” or interpretation of the United States Constitution as Scalia believes our founding fathers had intended.

As part of the protest, Willse <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/george-mason-university-professors-oppose-naming-law-school-after-antonin-n552501">authors</a> a letter protesting the university’s decision. The <a href="https://nojusticeforgmu.wordpress.com/">letter</a>, which appears on the site, “No Justice for GMU,” details Willse’s opposition to Scalia. He “denounces'' the renaming of the law school after Scalia and describes the university’s decision as an “affront” to those targeted by Scalia’s, “racism, sexism, and homophobia.” Willie specifically <a href="https://nojusticeforgmu.wordpress.com/who-was-scalia/">accuses</a> Scalia’s “constitutional originalism” of being “widely criticized” by historians and scholars, citing left-leaning publications such as Mother Jones, ThinkProgress, and The Huffington Post in doing so.

The same letter accuses Scalia of causing “direct harms” to GMU students, including “students of color, women, and LGBT students.”

The protest was ultimately unsuccessful and the law school was officially <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2016/05/17/its-official-george-masons-law-school-is-named-in-honor-of-antonin-scalia/">renamed</a> the Antonin Scalia Law School later that year.

Willse accuses Israel of being responsible for police brutality and racist profiling in the United States. In an article for the site, “Deadly Exchange” Willse <a href="https://deadlyexchange.org/building-safety-through-solidarity-an-interview-with-dean-spade-craig-willse/">states</a> that policing is a project of colonial and racial control.

<a href="https://deadlyexchange.org/">Deadly Exchange</a> is a campaign by the anti-Israel group, <a href="https://jewishvoiceforpeace.org/">Jewish Voice for Peace</a>. The campaign intends to end any collaboration between US and Israeli police forces. According to the official site for “Deadly Exchange,” security cooperation with Israel promotes “racial profiling, massive spying and surveillance, deportation and detention, and attacks on human rights defenders.”

In the same <a href="https://deadlyexchange.org/building-safety-through-solidarity-an-interview-with-dean-spade-craig-willse/">article</a>, Willse compares policing with slave patrols in the Jim Crow-era and therefore says policing “fundamentally anti-black.” He states that police cannot be reformed, and his long-term goal is to abolish police and prisons.

As <a href="https://canarymission.org/professor/Craig_Willse">documented</a> by the site, <a href="https://canarymission.org/">Canary Mission</a>, Willse holds other anti-Israel stances and takes part in protests accusing Israel of being an “apartheid state.” In an article for the site Truthout, Willse <a href="https://truthout.org/articles/us-and-israeli-police-are-sharing-violent-and-repressive-tactics/">describes</a> Israel and the US “as the world's most racist, repressive and violent police and military forces.”

In the video below, Willse can be seen <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e6jULCCh3Y&amp;ab_channel=AriWohlfeiler">disrupting</a> a pro-Israel parade in New York. As <a href="https://forward.com/scribe/373862/jvp-targeted-queer-jewish-youth-at-israel-parade/">reported</a> by The Forward, members of the New York Police Department stated that Willse and 4 others “targeted”  the parade on behalf of Jewish Voice for Peace and were arrested for disorderly conduct.

<a href="https://www.txst.edu/history/people/faculty-staff/goldstone.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Dwonna Naomi Goldstone</a> is an Associate Professor of History and the Director of the African-American Studies program at <a href="https://www.txst.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Texas State University</a>. Dr. Goldstone teaches two courses that are required for the African-American Studies program: AAS 2310: Intro to African American Studies, and AAS 4320: Global Perspectives on the African Diaspora.
According to Dr. Goldstone’s university profile, she is currently working on three essays: one about Barbara Conrad Smith, a black undergraduate student at the University of Texas in its first year of integration (1956-1957) who was removed from the school’s opera; a second titled “Teaching While Black: A Black Professor in Trump Land”; and a third on teaching feminism in a men’s prison. 
Dr. Goldstone gave a presentation “The ‘Last’ Vestige of Segregation at UT: Desegregating the Dormitories” at the Univesity of Texas at Austin on April 21, 2022. You can watch the presentation below:

Additionally, Dr. Goldstone has made <a href="https://www.theleafchronicle.com/story/life/2016/04/08/focus-racial-tension-still-evident-campus-society/82674382/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">comments referring to race, such as</a> “I have black and white students in my classes. I get the feeling a lot of the white students are there only because they have to take a diversity course. They sometimes seem resistant to the conversation. I have some students who try to speak their truth, only for it to be denied, or diminished by others. There is just not enough conversation between the races.”
These statements were made during an interview with The Leaf-Chronicle while she was a professor of English at <a href="https://www.apsu.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Austin Peay State University</a>. Dr. Goldstone was in charge of the African-American studies minor program for the last six years; she stated: “I do feel that my job, as a black professor, is to help black students specifically, to get through, but I have students of all colors coming to my office, and I help everybody… I still believe that you have to be twice as good to be equal to white people.”

<a href="https://www.txstate.edu/history/people/faculty/bishop.html">Elizabeth Bishop</a> is an associate professor in the History Department at Texas State University (TXST).

Censorship
In 2017, Bishop attempted to have a conservative student and another professional fired from their jobs due to comments each made on Facebook with which Bishop disagreed.

The controversy began with a <a href="https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/tyler-o-neil/2017/04/01/texas-prof-tries-to-get-conservatives-fired-over-facebook-argument-n51022">post</a> by Texas State University Student Body Vice President, Colton Duncan, who objected to TXST hosting <a href="https://www.britannica.com/biography/Angela-Davis">Angela Davis</a> as a speaker. Davis, a Vice-Presidential candidate for the Communist Party USA, was once one of the <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/topten/topten-history/hires_images/FBI-309-AngelaYvonneDavis.jpg/view">FBI’s most wanted criminals </a>for the murder of a trial judge. PJ Media reports <a href="https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/tyler-o-neil/2017/04/01/texas-prof-tries-to-get-conservatives-fired-over-facebook-argument-n51022">Duncan calling Davis</a> an “American terrorist,” while simultaneously denying the College Republicans the opportunity to host their women’s empowerment summit.

According to Campus Reform, Bishop then <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=9002">replied</a> to Duncan’s post, stating it was a “shame” that students didn’t know the difference between Hitler and Stalin.

Alexander Morrisette, an employee of the conservative Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF), commented on Bishop’s reply, stating, “Enemies can have similar goals, interests, and dreams of autocratic control.”

Morrisette’s response evolved into a debate with Bishop in Facebook’s comment section. As each continued posting comments, an anonymous student, whose identity cannot be verified, proceeded to “like'' all of Morrisette’s comments. This prompted Bishop to call Texas State University department that employed the student who had “liked” Morrisette’s comments asking that the student, and those whom Bishop described as the student’s “associates,” be investigated for “hate speech.” According to Campus Reform, Bishop also <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=9002">demanded</a> that the university department that employed dismiss her from all leadership positions.

In an attempt to damage Morrisette’s employment, Bishop also contacted TPPF claiming that Morrisette had made disparaging remarks about her. <a href="https://www.polisci.txstate.edu/people/faculty-bios/henderson.html">Rick Henderson</a>, a Senior Lecturer at Texas State University, accused multiple Republican presidential candidates of “talking out of [their] ass[es],” including Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Rand Paul, and Carly Fiorina. According to an audio recording of the class, Henderson said “So I guess if you’re Rand Paul you just go, ‘hmm, what can I pull out my ass?’ And Carly Fiorina saying that marijuana is more dangerous than beer? Talking out of her ass! And Ted Cruz, I can’t tell the difference between his mouth and his ass. I mean, what are you talking about? Are you insane?’” The diatribe caused the department chair to remind “Professor Henderson of the need to maintain a classroom climate that honors the principles of free and open expression while maintaining an appropriate level of civility.”

<a href="https://www.txst.edu/history/people/faculty-staff/goldstone.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Dwonna Naomi Goldstone</a> is an Associate Professor of History and the Director of the African-American Studies program at <a href="https://www.txst.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Texas State University</a>. Dr. Goldstone teaches two courses that are required for the African-American Studies program: AAS 2310: Intro to African American Studies, and AAS 4320: Global Perspectives on the African Diaspora.

According to Dr. Goldstone’s university profile, she is currently working on three essays: one about Barbara Conrad Smith, a black undergraduate student at the University of Texas in its first year of integration (1956-1957) who was removed from the school’s opera; a second titled “Teaching While Black: A Black Professor in Trump Land”; and a third on teaching feminism in a men’s prison. 

Dr. Goldstone gave a presentation “The ‘Last’ Vestige of Segregation at UT: Desegregating the Dormitories” at the Univesity of Texas at Austin on April 21, 2022. You can watch the presentation below:

Additionally, Dr. Goldstone has made <a href="https://www.theleafchronicle.com/story/life/2016/04/08/focus-racial-tension-still-evident-campus-society/82674382/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">comments referring to race, such as</a> “I have black and white students in my classes. I get the feeling a lot of the white students are there only because they have to take a diversity course. They sometimes seem resistant to the conversation. I have some students who try to speak their truth, only for it to be denied, or diminished by others. There is just not enough conversation between the races.”

These statements were made during an interview with The Leaf-Chronicle while she was a professor of English at <a href="https://www.apsu.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Austin Peay State University</a>. Dr. Goldstone was in charge of the African-American studies minor program for the last six years; she stated: “I do feel that my job, as a black professor, is to help black students specifically, to get through, but I have students of all colors coming to my office, and I help everybody… I still believe that you have to be twice as good to be equal to white people.”

<a href="https://www.masscomm.txst.edu/people/faculty/terry-bertling.html">Terry Scott Bertling</a> is a professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University. Bertling has been involved in the journalism field for many years, as stated on her university profile. 

According to <a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=20480">Campus Reform</a>, students were assigned “an AP-style quiz” that mocked a conservative radio host who is deceased. The specific question [obtained by Campus Reform]  was multiple-choice and displayed with two examples of the same sentence: 

“He was the second right-wing radio host who mocked vaccines before dying of COVID-19” and “He was the second right wing radio host who mocked vaccines before dying of COVID-19.”

This quiz comes from the <a href="http://mycatalog.txstate.edu/undergraduate/fine-arts-communication/journalism-mass/#coursestext">“Editing and Managing Content” course</a> in the Mass Communication Department. The course description states: “Students will incorporate words, images, sound and data into storytelling across platforms. This course tightens the focus on audience, accuracy, meaning, logic, organization, style and form.”

Campus Reform reports that Office of Media Relations employee, Jayme Blaschke, “told Campus Reform that the ‘example sentences included in the assignment were all taken from published news articles.’”

Reverend <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=16465">Al Sharpton is a professor at Tennessee State University</a> who was hired as a “distinguished guest lecturer.” As head of the National Action Network, Sharpton has been accused of a number of dubious financial practices. He has allegedly <a href="https://nypost.com/2015/01/04/how-sharpton-gets-paid-to-not-cry-racism-at-corporations/">solicited millions in donations</a> from corporations in exchange for refraining from labeling their actions racist and organizing boycotts of their products. It has also been reported that Sharpton owes <a href="https://www.ajc.com/blog/news-to-me/report-sharpton-owes-million-taxes/8CeZabAN4et2VUkMXF2dhM/">millions in unpaid taxes</a> to the IRS while <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/al-sharpton-gets-1m-in-pay-from-his-own-charity">paying himself</a> as much as seven figures from his own charity.
Sharpton first leapt to national recognition when he publicly defended the family of Tawana Brawly–an African-American teenager that had accused 4 white men of gang-rape–and <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1998-02-10-9802100281-story.html">specifically accused</a> prosecutor Steve Pagones of raping Brawly without any evidence. A jury later determined that <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/07/al-sharpton-is-not-a-civil-rights-hero/">Brawly had faked her accusation</a> to avoid punishment for running away from her home. <a href="https://nypost.com/2001/06/14/rev-al-pays-up-in-tawana-hoax/">Sharpton was successfully sued for defamation</a> by Pagones but refused to pay until his supporters raised the funds for him. Sharpton has never issued an apology to Pagones.
Antisemitism
Following the case, Sharpton became embroiled in the Crown Heights Riots. Just days before the violence erupted in the predominantly Jewish neighborhood, he was <a href="https://www.thejewishstar.com/stories/Recalling-Al-Sharptons-role-in-1991-Crown-Heights-riots,4242">caught on tape</a> telling Jews to, “pin back their yarmulkes.”

Police were unable to restrain the crowd and, for the driver&#8217;s protection, ordered a Hasidic ambulance service that had arrived at the scene to remove him. Both boys were taken to the hospital, where one tragically died.
A rumor soon spread that the Hasidic ambulance had refused to take the boys to the hospital. Despite being false, Al Sharpton instantly seized upon it. According to sworn testimony from Efraim Lipkind, a Hasidic resident of Crown Heights, Al Sharpton egged on the crowds in person, telling them to go and “kill the Jews.”
Hasidic businesses were burned and Jews were assaulted in the ensuing riots, including Yankel Rosenbaum, who later died from his injuries. Invited to give a eulogy at the funeral, Sharpton overtly threatened Jews in his speech, stating that the Jews would “pay for their deeds,&#8217; stating, “All we want to say is what Jesus said: If you offend one of these little ones, you got to pay for it. No compromise, no meetings, no kaffe klatsch, no skinnin’ and grinnin’. Pay for your deeds.”
Following the funeral, Sharpton led a march through predominantly Jewish neighborhoods in Crown Heights that were observing the Sabbath in an attempt to provoke further conflict.
Violence 
Sharpton exploited similar antisemitic sentiments in 1995 in what became known as the “Freddy’s Fashion Mart Riot.” Following an attempt to raise the rent of a black tenant that owned a fashion store, <a href="https://www.mrctv.org/blog/happy-anniversary-rev-al-20-years-shapton-incited-firebombing-freddys-fashion-mart">Sharpton-led protests erupted and began targeting the building’s Jewish owner. </a>
Protestors chanted, “burn down the Jew store,” and a close Sharpton ally told the increasingly unruly crowd that “we are going to see that this cracker suffers.”  Sharpton himself stated that they would not allow a “white interloper” to move into the neighborhood.

<a href="https://www.tnstate.edu/businessadmin/nagy-b.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brian Nagy</a> is an Assistant Professor in the Business Administration Department at Tennessee State University. His expertise includes “strategic management of established firms and new ventures, entrepreneur behaviors, and organizational development.”

On March 25, 2024, <a href="https://www.wsmv.com/2024/03/25/tsu-professor-charged-after-allegedly-stalking-exposing-himself-neighbors/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WSMV 4 News reported</a>, “[Nagy] was arrested after exposing himself to his neighbors earlier this month, according to an arrest affidavit. Police said [Nagy] was seen pulling his pants down and revealing himself to his neighbor’s security camera around 1 a.m. on March 14. Dr. Nagy was captured yelling profanities at the camera, requesting his neighbors look at his exposed self.”

The report further reveals that Nagy exposed himself several times and flipped off the camera for three hours. According to WSMV, he’s facing charges of indecent exposure and stalking.

As of publication, Nagy’s <a href="https://www.tnstate.edu/businessadmin/nagy-b.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faculty profile</a> remains active, with no signs of him being on administrative leave. However, Tennessee State University did release a brief statement published by <a href="https://www.newschannel5.com/news/tsu-professor-arrested-for-indecent-exposure-after-reportedly-showing-genitals-on-camera" target="_blank" rel="noopener">News Channel 5 Nashville</a>:
“The University was made aware of the arrest and will proceed as our policy dictates, including administrative leave with pay pending the ongoing investigation.”

<a href="https://www.coursicle.com/tufts/professors/Milo+Todd/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Milo Todd</a> is a creative writing instructor specializing in courses for “queer and trans adults.” He also serves as co-editor-in-chief of <a href="https://foglifterjournal.com/">Foglifter Journal</a>, and oversees <a href="https://www.thequeerwriter.milotodd.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Queer Writer</a>. On his personal <a href="https://www.milotodd.com/teaching/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a>, he offers online classes focused largely on LGBTQ+ topics, available to anyone interested in exploring these subjects.
Todd will teach a <a href="https://tufts.app.box.com/s/o9lbh28ilmgurug67z4j1n8mhkaaikxq" target="_blank" rel="noopener">course</a> titled “Transcestors” at Tufts University during the spring semester of 2025. <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/-tufts-university-offering-transcestors-course-next-semester-/27182" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform</a> reports that the course will be offered through Tufts University’s Experimental College at the School of Arts and Sciences. 
The course description asks the question: “How have transgender people been systematically misused, misunderstood, co-opted, and erased throughout history?”
In <a href="https://www.thequeerwriter.milotodd.com/the-queer-writer-october-2024/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Queer Writer</a>, the professor states his course will answer the above question by exploring the following matters concerning the history of transgenderism:
“The course looks at numerous examples of trans existence throughout time and place, their relative oppressions, and how these situations have altered cis [i.e. heterosexual] perceptions of trans people in the modern day.”
Todd’s description further notes that the course will examine the alleged “erasure” of transgender people throughout history, highlighting how their experiences have harmed “cisgender” and “transgender” people alike.
“It&#8217;ll additionally look at how these erasures of history have influenced the current mass markets of entertainment (including literature, movies, sitcoms, and stand-up comedy), the deliberate attacks on U.S. trans rights over the past decade (such as book bans, participation in sports, and access to trans-related healthcare), and how these attacks actively harm cis people alongside trans people.&#8221; 
Todd states that his course “sounds like a downer, but… it&#8217;s enlightening about the power of community, identity, and the individual, and shows the wonders of transcestry.”

<a href="https://as.tufts.edu/people/faculty/thomas-abowd">Thomas Abowd</a> is a lecturer in the American and Colonialism Studies Departments at Tufts University. Abowd is the author of <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Colonial-Jerusalem-Construction-Difference-Contemporary/dp/0815634692">“Colonial Jerusalem - The Spatial Construction of Identity and Difference in a City of Myth 1948-2012.”</a> He has also served as an <a href="https://canarymission.org/professor/Thomas_Abowd">advisory board member</a> of the group Jewish Voice for Peace in Boston and regularly collaborates with the antisemitic group, <a href="https://www.nationalsjp.org/">Students for Justice in Palestine.</a>

Abowd frequently refers to Israel as a colonial state, in which European Jews stole the land from the Arabs who were living in what is now Israel and launched a campaign of ethnic cleansing that continues to this day. In a 2016 speech at the <a href="https://www.c-span.org/video/?418402-3/palestine-center-conference-panel-2">Jerusalem Fund’s Annual Conference</a>, Abowd repeated this claim, alleging that Israel’s capital Jerusalem is being actively purged of the Arabs that live in the city.

Abowd’s view that Israel is an apartheid state forms the basis for his support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. BDS is weaponized as a means for those who wish to economically and politically isolate, strangle, and dismantle the state of Israel by attacking any companies and nations that have ties with it. As a featured speaker at a <a href="https://jvp-boston.org/hundreds-march-boston-condemn-israeli-violence-corporate-complicity/">2014 protest</a> hosted by Jewish Voice for Peace Boston, Abowd condemned Israel and other companies that he alleged were complicit in the murder of civilians:

“As we all witnessed Israeli jets bombing civilian areas this week, Israeli troops storming Palestinian refugee camps and cities, and the killing of Palestinian civilians, I am reminded how complicit the US government, US corporations, and the American taxpayers are in the human rights abuses committed by Israel.” 

With his prior statements and actions in mind, many in the <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=13577">Tuft’s community were alarmed</a> when Abowd began offering a course titled “Colonizing Palestine.”  According to the <a href="https://as.tufts.edu/colonialismstudies/documents/coursesFall2019.pdf">course description</a>, students will examine Palestine and Israel through the “lens of colonialism studies” and answer important questions regarding issues like “gender and sexuality.”

In an <a href="https://tuftsdaily.com/opinion/2018/09/20/op-ed-professor-thomas-abowd-class-colonizing-palestine/">op-ed defending the course</a>, Abowd describes Israel’s historical claims in the Middle East as “biblical myths.” He even admits that the accounts of historians that have accused Israel of ethnic cleansing are the inspiration for the course:

“(Baruch Kimmerling) wrote in detail about the various ways in which Israel was built overwhelmingly upon the land and even within homes stolen from those Palestinians made refugees. These two scholars, like thousands of others fighting for justice and equality in Israel and Palestine, have inspired my own intellectual pursuits and, indeed, the course I am teaching this semester at Tufts.“

Professor Kareem Khubchandan is an <a href="https://as.tufts.edu/wgss/people/faculty/kareem-khubchandani" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Associate Professor in Tufts University’s School of Arts and Sciences</a> department. He specializes in Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies, as well as Studies in Race, Colonialism, and Diaspora. Khubchandan has written multiple books, journal essays, and encyclopedia entries mostly promoting the history of drag and queer performances in South Asia.

Khubchandan also performs on college campuses under a persona named LaWhore Vagistan. According to <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=18353" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform,</a> “The Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics [hosted the] Tufts professor under his drag alter ego at a meeting for the Politics of Race &amp; Ethnicity program.” Students and faculty were invited via email which included an advertisement of Khubchandan posing in a library.

Additionally, in 2019, <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=13808" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform said</a> Khubchandan "lectur[ed] in drag at various universities in order to teach students about ‘queer nightlife’ and to bring ‘the nightclub to the classroom.” His performance themes continue to range from queer feminism to globalization to Islamophobia.

Khubchandan refers to himself as an “aunty” to his students and mentees on campus. He also teaches Critical Aunty Studies, which is part of Tufts’ Mellon Bridge program. In an <a href="https://www.criticalauntystudies.com/01-welcome" target="_blank" rel="noopener">online introduction to the aunty symposium</a>, he discussed the “mutual nature of aunty work across all generations [which includes] aging as a transgender person, fashion, drag, and body size.”

<a href="https://as.tufts.edu/art-architecture/people/faculty/kelli-morgan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kelli Morgan</a> is a Professor of the Practice in both Curatorial Studies and the History of Art and Architecture at Tufts University. She’s also the Director of Curatorial Studies. Her research interests include African-American visual culture, visual literacy, and anti-racist approaches to museum curative practice.

Morgan received her appointment as Professor of the Practice in September 2022. In November, Morgan <a href="https://tuftsdaily.com/news/2022/11/07/professor-kelli-morgan-founds-anti-racist-curatorial-practice-in-effort-to-diversify-museums/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">appeared in an article</a> from The Tufts Daily titled “Professor Kelli Morgan founds Anti-Racist Curatorial Practice in effort to diversify museums.” 

The column says, “[Morgan] founded a new graduate certificate program this year, the Anti-Racist Curatorial Practice. Morgan developed the program…to counter systemic racism often found in museum curation.”

Tufts Daily continues, “Morgan decided to establish the program after experiencing years of discrimination as an art museum curator, most recently as an associate curate of American art at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.”

Morgan told Tufts Daily she resigned from her position due to experiencing issues with “class discrimination, gender discrimination, and racial discrimination” that she says is “really rampant in our museum culture, especially in traditional art institutions.”

Morgan’s speaking engagement, “<a href="https://kam.illinois.edu/event/postponed-kelli-morgan-art-whiteness-and-empire-how-we-all-got-here" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Art, Whiteness, and Empire: How We All Got Here</a>” — which is hosted by the University of Illinois-Urban Campaign — has been postponed until further notice. The lecture is scheduled to run from October to December and will cover “how and why art museums are currently struggling so badly with diversity, repatriation, restitution, and attempts to create genuine cultures of institutional equity.”

<a href="https://as.tufts.edu/education/people/faculty/cynthia-robinson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cynthia Robinson</a> is a Senior Lecturer in the areas of Museum Studies, History, and Education at Tufts University. She also serves as the Director of Museum Studies and a faculty member for the <a href="https://asegrad.tufts.edu/program/anti-racist-curatorial-practice-certificate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anti-Racist Curatorial Practice program</a> — a certification program that trains students in “effective methods of divesting traditional museum practices that are rooted in white colonialist and imperialist histories.”

In March 2022, Robinson took her class to an exhibit through the Tufts University Art Galleries. According to an article titled “<a href="https://now.tufts.edu/2022/03/01/hacking-diversity-and-representation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hacking for Diversity and Representation</a>,” Tufts Now said it was the Galleries' first “Art Datathon to examine how gender, race, and artistic mediums are represented in the university’s collection.”

The presentation was inspired by the director and chief curator for Tufts Galleries who conducted a public audit of campus art by “white males.” Tufts Now reported, “From that analysis (conducted as part of the Tufts as an Anti-Racist Institution initiative)...the Public Art working group concluded that while the university’s imagery wasn’t overtly racist, it was exclusionary because it did not include any people of color.”

“Many museum professionals — who are, in this country, overwhelmingly white — have subsumed direct discussion of racism by using the language of diversity and inclusivity. For several decades, the field has sought ways to diversify museum audiences to reach non-white, non-Anglo visitors through changes in programming, exhibition topics, and marketing.”

She also stated,

“Race is a social, not a biological construct…’Racism’ is a term that came into use less than a century ago, and its definition and underlying ideology [have] changed over time…CRT…argues that [the idea of] racism-free [people] is not a possible condition when we operate within racialized systems. Moreover, racism often emanates from experiences, rather than theories.”

<a href="https://as.tufts.edu/english/people/faculty/joshua-nguyen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joshua Nguyen</a> is a Lecturer in the Department of English at Tufts University. After the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack against Israel, Nguyen was featured in <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/while-universities-refuse-to-fire-anti-semites-the-private-sector-holds-them-accountable/24277" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform</a> after adding his signature to <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oU0LTAsKiGOMxfXnKcxpw-GJV6w5uiMP/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an open statement</a> that said:
“We are writers who unequivocally stand with Palestine and its fight for liberation against the illegal occupation of Israel and the violent settler colonial apartheid state. We strongly condemn the response of [W]estern media and political actors at all levels of government in their dissemination of misinformation and propaganda, intended to manufacture consent for the genocide of Palestinian people.”
The statement goes on to say:
“Islamophobic, genocidal, anti-Arab and anti-Palestinian rhetoric are all rooted in the languages we use. It is our responsibility to lay bare how language has been used to obscure and preserve the ongoing settler colonial project outside Gaza…”
The signatories' list of political declarations includes:
<ul>
 	<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“The resistance is an ongoing response to a long history of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians” and </li>
 	<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“Politicians at all levels of government internationally, primarily those in the [W]est, are deliberately weaponizing islamophobia and orientalist language in order to manufacture consent for genocide in Palestine.” </li>
</ul>

<a href="https://www.coursicle.com/tufts/professors/Milo+Todd/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Milo Todd</a> is a creative writing instructor specializing in courses for “queer and trans adults.” He also serves as co-editor-in-chief of <a href="https://foglifterjournal.com/">Foglifter Journal</a>, and oversees <a href="https://www.thequeerwriter.milotodd.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Queer Writer</a>. On his personal <a href="https://www.milotodd.com/teaching/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a>, he offers online classes focused largely on LGBTQ+ topics, available to anyone interested in exploring these subjects.

Todd will teach a <a href="https://tufts.app.box.com/s/o9lbh28ilmgurug67z4j1n8mhkaaikxq" target="_blank" rel="noopener">course</a> titled “Transcestors” at Tufts University during the spring semester of 2025. <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/-tufts-university-offering-transcestors-course-next-semester-/27182" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform</a> reports that the course will be offered through Tufts University’s Experimental College at the School of Arts and Sciences. 

The course description asks the question: “How have transgender people been systematically misused, misunderstood, co-opted, and erased throughout history?”

In <a href="https://www.thequeerwriter.milotodd.com/the-queer-writer-october-2024/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Queer Writer</a>, the professor states his course will answer the above question by exploring the following matters concerning the history of transgenderism:
“The course looks at numerous examples of trans existence throughout time and place, their relative oppressions, and how these situations have altered cis [i.e. heterosexual] perceptions of trans people in the modern day.”
Todd’s description further notes that the course will examine the alleged “erasure” of transgender people throughout history, highlighting how their experiences have harmed “cisgender” and “transgender” people alike.
“It'll additionally look at how these erasures of history have influenced the current mass markets of entertainment (including literature, movies, sitcoms, and stand-up comedy), the deliberate attacks on U.S. trans rights over the past decade (such as book bans, participation in sports, and access to trans-related healthcare), and how these attacks actively harm cis people alongside trans people." 
Todd states that his course “sounds like a downer, but… it's enlightening about the power of community, identity, and the individual, and shows the wonders of transcestry.”

“This comment was made on the faculty member’s personal Facebook account and was not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the University. I want to make it clear that I denounce all messages that condone violence of any kind. Of course, as US citizens and part of a public institution of higher education, we respect the rights and privileges afforded by the Constitution.”
As of publication, Parsneau is still employed by the Minnesota State University Mankato.

“This comment was made on the faculty member’s personal Facebook account and was not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the University. I want to make it clear that I denounce all messages that condone violence of any kind. Of course, as US citizens and part of a public institution of higher education, we respect the rights and privileges afforded by the Constitution.”

As of publication, Parsneau is still employed by the Minnesota State University Mankato.

<a href="https://anthropology.nd.edu/people/faculty/cara-ocobock/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cara Ocobock</a> is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Human Energetics Laboratory at Notre Dame. Her research program “integrates human biology and anthropology, with a focus on the interaction between anatomy, physiology, evolution, and the environment.”
In October 2023, Professor Ocobock and Professor <a href="https://www.professorwatchlist.org/professor/charlesroseman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Charles Roseman</a>, of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, penned an op-ed for <a href="https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/to-understand-sex-we-need-to-ask-the-right-questions/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Scientific American</a> in which they questioned the existence of only two genders. In the op-ed—titled “To Understand Sex, We Need to Ask the Right Questions”—they argue that “binaries” about sex in humans “start to fail us once we move into questions about how organisms live out their lives.”
The authors write:
“This can be seen in the example of transgender athletes. Arguments revolving around including or excluding trans athletes often rest on notions of strict binary differences in hormone type and concentration that associate female individuals with estrogen and male ones with testosterone. This assumes testosterone is at the root of athletic performance. These hormones do not hew to a strict binary, however.” 
Their argument continues:
“Female and male people need both estrogen and testosterone to function, and they overlap in their hormone concentrations. If we are interested in how estrogen and testosterone affect athletic performance, then we need to examine these respective hormone levels and how they correlate with athletic outcomes. We cannot rely on gross average differences between the sexes as evidence for differential athletic success. Adherence to a sex binary can lead us astray in this domain of inquiry.” 
Ocobock and Roseman state that the discussion about sex <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/professor-biologist-bashed-questioning-existence-two-genders-op-ed-depends-context" target="_blank" rel="noopener">might benefit from asking the question</a>, “If ‘sex’ is the answer, what was the question?” The authors conclude they have “no warrant to make authoritative declarations on this issue from a scientific standpoint that is uninformed by ethical, moral, or social considerations.” They believe they are in “good company” because they “doubt any one medical, scientific or humanistic practitioner would be able to come up with a question that encompasses all of the ways in which humans are affected by sex, however it is construed.”

Tamara Kay is a <a href="https://keough.nd.edu/profile/tamara-kay/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Professor of Global Affairs and Sociology</a> at the University of Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs. She is also an ex-officio member of the Keough School’s Racial Justice Task Force.

<a href="https://irishrover.net/2022/10/keough-school-professor-offers-abortion-access-to-student/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Irish Rover</a> reports that Professor Kay is helping students get abortions after an Indiana law banning abortions statewide took effect on September 15, 2022. She posted a sign on her office door that read: “This is a SAFE SPACE to get help and information on ALL Healthcare issues and access - confidentially with care and compassion.” The sign also contained her personal email address and a capital “J.”

In a social media post, Kay explained: “We are here (as private citizens, not representatives of ND) to help you access healthcare when you need it, and we are prepared in every way. Look for the “J”, Spread the word to students!” The Rover reports that professors with the “J” on their doors offer help in obtaining Plan B “morning after” pills and “Plan C” abortion pills.

According to The Rover, Professor Kay claims that her abortion advocacy is allowed because she’s “doing that as a private citizen,” saying, “that’s been cleared by the university … I talked to the dean and have also spoken to ND Media about policies.”

However, during the week of September 26, Kay changed her Twitter name from “Dr. Tamara Kay - Notre Dame abortion rights expert” to “Dr. Tamara Kay - Abortion Rights &amp; Policy Scholar.” She has also since deleted all tweets referencing abortions for students and removed the signs from her office.

Professor Kay has written many articles about abortion rights. One article, co-authored with Susan Ostermann, an assistant professor at the Keough School, is titled <a href="https://www.salon.com/2022/05/04/forced-pregnancy-and-childbirth-are-violence-against-women--and-also-terrible-health-policy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Forced pregnancy and childbirth are violence against women - and also terrible health policy.”</a> The article argues that “forced pregnancy and childbirth is sexual abuse,” stating:
“Both require the sexual reproductive capacity of human bodies. Being forced to provide that capacity, and to endure the physical intrusion and penetration of the body that both pregnancy and childbirth require, is nothing less than sexual abuse.” 
The article argues that “abortion access is freedom-enhancing,” saying:
“Consistent with integral human development that emphasizes social justice and human dignity, abortion access respects the inherent dignity of women, their freedom to make choices and to evaluate medical and other risks associated with pregnancy and childbirth.” 
It concludes:
“Perhaps most important, abortion access also prioritizes and values women’s freedom from experiencing violence, sexual abuse and trauma through forced pregnancy and childbirth. When the state supports forced pregnancy and childbirth, it is complicit in this violence.”

<a href="https://politicalscience.nd.edu/people/luis-ricardo-fraga/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Luis Ricardo Fraga</a> is the Rev. Donald P. McNeill, C.S.C, Professor of Transformative Leadership, Joseph and Elizabeth Robbie Professor of Political Science, Director of the Institute for Latino Studies, and Fellow at the Institute for Educational Initiatives at the University of Notre Dame. According to his university biography, he specializes in Latino politics, voting rights, immigration, and education.

In June 2021, Professor Fraga signed a “statement of concern” titled <a href="https://www.newamerica.org/political-reform/statements/statement-of-concern/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“The Threats to American Democracy and the Need for National Voting and Election Administration Standards.”</a> The letter was circulated by New America, a liberal think tank, and signed by professors from across the country. The statement says:

He explains:
“We have culture wars and our racist historical past and its lingering contemporary effects and immigration - particularly from Latin American - is identified as a threat to American identity and American ideals. Add to that people coming from Muslim countries, and this intensifies the culture wars.” 
He believes that the Republican Party wants to <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/republicans-want-to-dehumanize-voters-who-threaten-white-identity-says-notre-dame-professor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“dehumanize” those who threaten “white identity,”</a> stating:
“All these things together have led to - and research backs this up - the importance of white identity. Working against this threatens the status of the Republican Party and spurs the gerrymandering/voting tricks. Their goal is to dehumanize the people who are the sources of that threat.”

<a href="https://sites.nd.edu/michael-coppedge/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael Coppedge</a> is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame and a Faculty Fellow of the Kellogg Institute for International Studies.

According to his university profile, he is a member of the highest decision-making body, the Principal Investigator Board, for the <a href="https://www.v-dem.net/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Varieties of Democracy</a> project. The project, also known as V-Dem, is a collaborative effort led by four principal investigators that has “produced new measures of hundreds of aspects of democracy and governance for nearly all countries since 1900.”

In June 2021, Professor Coppedge signed a “statement of concern” titled <a href="https://www.newamerica.org/political-reform/statements/statement-of-concern/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“The Threats to American Democracy and the Need for National Voting and Election Administration Standards.”</a> The letter was circulated by New America, a liberal think tank, and signed by professors from across the country. V-Dem reports that no country in North America or Europe has advanced in democracy in the last decade and democracy in the U.S. has declined substantially. Coppedge states:
“A decline is already underway. If recent and pending state-level legislation erects more and more barriers to voting and makes the translation of votes into seats and electors even more distorted than it already is, I am sure this trend will worsen.” 
V-Dem’s 2021 report shows that the U.S. declined substantially on the Liberal Democracy Index from 2010 to 2020. Notre Dame News reports that the V-Dem researchers blame this decline on “former President Donald Trump’s repeated attacks on the media and opposition politicians, and the substantial weakening of the legislature’s de facto checks and balances on executive power.”

Students of Latin American politics call this phenomenon ‘boundary control.’ In Latin America, authoritarian governors are known to preserve power in their enclaves by fending off the influence of national governments.” 
Pérez-Liñán believes the filibuster is an “important maneuver that protects legislative minorities;” but adds,
“Paradoxically, however, some Republican senators are using this institution to disempower minorities in their own states. By blocking the adoption of federal legislation to defend voting rights, they sadly exercise boundary control to protect the adoption of restrictive voting laws.”

<a href="https://ftt.nd.edu/people/faculty/pamela-robertson-wojcik/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pamela Wojcik</a> is the Chair of the Department of Film, Television, and Theatre at the University of Notre Dame. According to her university profile, her research “focuses on American cinema with particular interest in examining the ways in which film negotiates and interrogates issues of modernity, gender, and cultural change.”

Wojcik is teaching a <a href="https://classsearch.nd.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fall 2023 course</a> titled, “What a Drag: Drag on Screen - Variations and Meanings.” The course description says it “provides an overview of the history of drag performance on screen.” Students will “be asked to read essays on drag, write weekly reflections, attend class discussions, and attend weekly screenings, as well as a symposium on drag and performance on November 3, 2023.”

Wojcik told <a href="https://irishrover.net/2023/09/drag-show-planned-at-notre-dame/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Irish Rover</a> that the symposium will be on “efforts to ban drag” and confirmed it will include a drag performance. She said that drag “is a vital art form that has existed at least since Greek theater, through Shakespearean theater. There are currently claims about drag that seem ahistorical and confused about what it is. So I thought it would be helpful to have an informed, respectful conversation about it.”

Wojcik further told <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=24105" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform</a> the course would help educate students on drag:
“[B]ecause the national conversation about drag has this distorted view, it really is just trying to give students the opportunity to learn about something in a rational, intellectual environment, rather than through this sort of hysteria of Republicans trying to ban something that they don’t understand.” 
Professor Wojcik <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/notre-dame-professor-doesnt-see-any-conflict-with-drag-programs-and-university-mission/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">does not see any conflict</a> with the University of Notre Dame, a Catholic institution, hosting a drag show on campus. She stated, “There is no evidence of drag ever hurting anyone and I don’t think it’s counter to the teachings of the Church, I don’t think it’s counter to the teachings of Notre Dame.”

In March 2023, Pope Francis condemned gender ideology as “one of the most dangerous ideological colonizations. He described gender ideology as “dangerous” because it “blurs differences and the value of men and women.”

The upcoming symposium will be sponsored by the University of Notre Dame’s Department of Gender Studies, Department of Music, Department of American Studies, and the Initiative on Race and Resilience. It is unclear at this time if the event is open to the public.

<a href="https://anthropology.nd.edu/people/faculty/cara-ocobock/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cara Ocobock</a> is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Human Energetics Laboratory at Notre Dame. Her research program “integrates human biology and anthropology, with a focus on the interaction between anatomy, physiology, evolution, and the environment.”

In October 2023, Professor Ocobock and Professor <a href="https://www.professorwatchlist.org/professor/charlesroseman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Charles Roseman</a>, of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, penned an op-ed for <a href="https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/to-understand-sex-we-need-to-ask-the-right-questions/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Scientific American</a> in which they questioned the existence of only two genders. In the op-ed—titled “To Understand Sex, We Need to Ask the Right Questions”—they argue that “binaries” about sex in humans “start to fail us once we move into questions about how organisms live out their lives.”

The authors write:
“This can be seen in the example of transgender athletes. Arguments revolving around including or excluding trans athletes often rest on notions of strict binary differences in hormone type and concentration that associate female individuals with estrogen and male ones with testosterone. This assumes testosterone is at the root of athletic performance. These hormones do not hew to a strict binary, however.” 
Their argument continues:
“Female and male people need both estrogen and testosterone to function, and they overlap in their hormone concentrations. If we are interested in how estrogen and testosterone affect athletic performance, then we need to examine these respective hormone levels and how they correlate with athletic outcomes. We cannot rely on gross average differences between the sexes as evidence for differential athletic success. Adherence to a sex binary can lead us astray in this domain of inquiry.” 
Ocobock and Roseman state that the discussion about sex <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/professor-biologist-bashed-questioning-existence-two-genders-op-ed-depends-context" target="_blank" rel="noopener">might benefit from asking the question</a>, “If ‘sex’ is the answer, what was the question?” The authors conclude they have “no warrant to make authoritative declarations on this issue from a scientific standpoint that is uninformed by ethical, moral, or social considerations.” They believe they are in “good company” because they “doubt any one medical, scientific or humanistic practitioner would be able to come up with a question that encompasses all of the ways in which humans are affected by sex, however it is construed.”

During the month-long experiment, Andersson documented his sexual arousal while looking through Japanese shota comics, which contain sexualized images of teenage and prepubescent boys. Regarding patriarchy, she stated:  
“I also think (and worry) that while the violence you describe in my poems is intended to work against patriarchy, it does in fact stem from the patriarchy. I worry that it’s men’s anger and energy (all steeped in white supremacy) that is trying to claw its way out of the grave that is my body.”
Then she discussed the topic of sexism:
“When I think about it, exploring my experience of sexism in poetry had become familiar. I recognize now that I was stuck in that all too familiar and common cishet white woman myopia.” 
Marvin even claimed that sexism is less intense than transphobia or racism: 
“Because sexism does not, when you come right down to it, compare (in intensity) to the experience of transphobia. Or to the experience of racism. As an English professor, I had never taught literature by trans people, and here I was raising a trans kid. How did this realization affect my writing? What changes me must change my writing.”
While talking about her child, Marvin further commented on the subject of gender with the following statements:
“One thing my child has taught me…is that gender is meaningless. Or that what is meaningful about it is mean, definitely hard-wired, and a trap. Gender binaries are enormously hurtful. Even less than a year ago I had no awareness of how completely shaped I have been by gender as a construct.”
In a tweet, Marvin said she would unsubscribe from The New York Times because they hired columnist David French, a critic of the transgender movement (see tweet below).

A syllabus from one of Marvin’s creative writing courses was provided to the Watchlist Team by an anonymous student. This syllabus includes an “Antiracism Statement.” Marvin revealed that, unlike how she taught in the past, she would decenter her literary teaching from the “white men” who contributed to the Western canon of literature to “BiPOC writers.” (see image at the bottom of the profile).
Marvin also stated that she “eliminated the hierarchy of grades,” because it “is one of many facets of white supremacy we see in academia every day.” Not declaring herself an authority on these subjects, Marvin stated she is “still learning and growing,” and realizes she is coming to understand her own “implicit racism as a white woman.” When students comment in the class, she requested them to reserve judgment when listening to each other because “we are all products of systemic racism.” 
At the end of her statement, Marvin discusses what she deems to be beneficial of “discomfort” regarding the discussion of racism:
“Most of us (especially white folx) are conditioned to not speak about it (i.e. racism) openly. Sometimes we will have to sit with our discomfort when it comes to these conversations. Discomfort can help us grow. You can expect the topic of anti-black racism will be a regular part of our conversations as we apply a critical lens to the texts we read as well as our own creative work.”

<a href="https://www.csi.cuny.edu/campus-directory/cate-marvin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cate Marvin</a> is a professor at The City University of New York - College of Staten Island. In 2022, she published a book of poems titled “<a href="https://www.coppercanyonpress.org/books/event-horizon-by-cate-marvin/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Event Horizon</a>.” The publisher’s description states:

Eisenstein gave a lecture at Cornell University entitled, “Thinking about Hetero-Racist Misogyny in Agriculture.” In this lecture, she contended that agriculture was a, “capitalist, radicalized patriarchy” and called the United States a “fascist democracy.”

Sean Eversley Bradwell is an <a href="https://www.ithaca.edu/faculty/seversley" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Associate Professor in the Department of Education at Ithaca College</a>. His research and teaching interests include educational policy, pedagogy, and social change. His university profile also says he was the director of the Center for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Social Change (IDEAS). 
In response to an <a href="https://theithacan.org/news/campus-community-discusses-racist-video-posted-by-student/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">alleged racist video</a> posted by an Ithaca student in 2019, <a href="https://theithacan.org/news/panel-discusses-origins-and-ownership-of-the-n-word/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Ithacan published a story</a> on Bradwell discussing the origins, ownership, and usage of the “N-word.” 
“Bradwell’s lecture detailed the history of the N-word from possible etymologies to the transition from “n—er” to “n—a” as a result of its colloquial use among black comedians and hip-hop artists,” The Ithacan said.
The Ithacan further stated, “Bradwell explained that the first recorded usage of the N-word was in 1786, but etymologists can trace the usage of the word back to the 1570s. There are several competing etymologies to explain the creation of the N-word, but Bradwell said regardless of the origin, the word has always had a negative connotation.”  
The video incident also led Bradwell to clarify, in his view, the appropriate uses of the N-word. In a column titled “<a href="https://theithacan.org/columns/who-gets-to-say-the-n-word/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Who gets to say the N-word</a>,” the author — who attended Bradwell’s panel discussion — concluded, 
“The term n—a came about in the late 1970s from black comedians and was further popularized by rap and hip-hop artists like Tupac Shakur, who argued that the word n—a can function as a term of affection…When black people use n—a, it normalizes the word to the point where nonblack folks feel perfectly comfortable saying it.”
The student, who was reportedly a “person of color,” did not incur discipline for using the slur to refer to herself in the video.
In January 2021, Bradwell signed the “<a href="https://theithacan.org/opinion/letter-from-bipoc-faculty-to-faculty-council-nov-19-2020/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Letter from BIPOC faculty to Faculty Council, Nov. 19, 2020.</a>” BIPOC is an acronym for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. In response to issues with the college’s Senior Leadership Team, the letter states,
“We write as a group of BIPOC faculty at Ithaca College who have no communal affiliation other than our shared experiences at this predominantly white institution. We do not claim to speak for all BIPOC faculty.”
“As BIPOC faculty, we are called to speak in response to long-standing inequities at Ithaca College. Only in recent years has the college made progress in hiring BIPOC faculty. As a result, in this time of uncertainty, the majority of BIPOC faculty are untenured.”
“If you wish to retain us, talk to us, not about us; listen to us and think about the ways you contribute to an environment where racialized bodies are constantly under attack…We offer this statement because we are part of this community and want to foster a space where everyone feels welcome to engage in dialogue.”
